  1. Agree Hooper and especially Brown lacking the zip we needed from them tonight. Clear Brown is miles from match fit.

As a matter of record I really have to praise Wilson though. He’s gone from the worst I’ve seen in the hoops to one of the best, certainly in the work European arena. Obviously that’s why Lenny was so keen.

We got what we deserved and what I expected. We we weren’t composed enough. Pressure paid off rather than great play.

We’re still punching above our weight, not borrowing enough and paying too much tax. FFP still appears to be a fantasy as far as I can see.

  2. Jaysus I can’t believe some of the sh*** I’m reading here. Our 3 away games win at Spartak. Lose by 1 at Barcelona 94th min goal and by one at Benefica, We play in the SPL we are playing teams who regularly play at a much higher standard. We have done brilliantly anyone complaining should take a serious look at themselves. I’m signing off for the night now as my blood pressure is rising and I may say something I will regret to anyone slagging off the team.

  3. Best team won tonight . Would be extremely dissapointed if we don’t get 3 points against

    Spartak.

Will accept any result in Barcelona , if Benefica win then bring on the Europa cup ,if Barcelona win then last 16 is an amazing outcome . It’s a win win situation.

BTW, Kelvin Wilson was IMMENSE tonight. Well done my son.

    HH

Yes but Kelvin left his man for the winner.

  5. Canot complain about that.

We were well short of recent CL standards and still got close to a result. That speaks volumes about self belief.

Impossible to predict how Matcgday6 will go. Like Chelsea, we could get 10 points and lose out. I just hope the Barca reserves plus Messi will want to impress their boss and they are at home.

Need to get our heads round league form now.

  6. Too many below par nervous performances. Have to say Wilson was immense. Ambrose picked an unfortunate night to have his worst game for us.

  7. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Kayal is a class player but need games to get his match fitness Lennie must play Kayal.I love Lennie to bits but he got it wrong tonight.Broonie is not fit and Hooper as ive already said Hooper offers nothing as he cant gather the ball and hold it for other players also he had two players sitting on the bench who can play the role.H.H.

  8. I think Benfica have a chance in Barcelona. They need a win and Barcelona don’t, simple as that.

It will be tight but I’d say the chances are 60-40 for us.

  9. I would honestly prefer a run in the Europas at this point in time. I think the last 16 of the champions league is beyond us as proved tonight. On the other hand I imagine we can do quite well in the Europas. Less money but more experience and hopefully glory.

  10. Lenny talking about surgery for Brown.

Reading between the lines I think there’s a regret that he started tonight.

  11. Celtic First …..or any other knowledgeable Spanish fitba bhoy

Any idea how Barca will tackle the Benfica game …

  12. Guys – Barca players will get rested and deservedly so. They have a long season ahead of them, they will reach the final stages of every tournie they are in and most of them are playing international football too. Their fringe players need the experience and will get it. That doesn’t say they will lose but it gives Benfica a great chance to get something.

  13. Broonie done. Lenny says he now needs surgery. No Brown or Wanyama for Spartak. Kayal needs to play v ICT, Hearts & Arbroath to get the game time and Ambrose may have to step forward.

  14. DubaiBhoy,

Possibly… but I genuinely think in a two-legged tie we have a great chance against anyone.

  15. sixtaeseven: Wanyama! Watt!!! and a consolation goal for Messi on

Young team who have done brilliantly and still learning.

    European football after Christmas,

    Yes, please…

… and that’s progress since last season, big progress!

Well done Lenny and the Bhoys!

  16. It was always going to be hard to get a draw in Lisbon. The team did get outplayed but had us hoping in the last few minutes.

No matter what happens in two weeks this European run has been amazing.:-)

Chill out Corkcelt. The world is teaming with ungrateful bar stewards who can’t see a good thing when it’s sat in theri lap. You and me can enjoy, just sit back and let them wallow in their misery :))))))

    Blazers

  18. thetimrieper,

hope not. i thought mulgrew going off was a disaster for us. it upset the balance of the team and meant we never got going in the second half at all.

  19. Looking at the draw I would have bitten your hand off for third place before the games started ,

so to be be in with a shout of going through and Europe after Christmas a certainty, I am not too down tonight .

  20. Lets be honest ….. If you had been offered our scenario back in september….. Smm predicting nil points ….

If we get a result against spartak and ONLY make the europa cup…. Thats progress

  21. I am Neil Lennon e El Juarez Bravo on

    West Wales Celt, fair comment.

I’m just gutted that we didn’t quite pull it off tonight. It’s a credit to the team that our expectations have been raised.

I suppose my biggest disappointment tonight was that we weren’t able to do anything tactically or personnel wise to get ourselves into it.

  22. Looks like Kelvin is another Celtic centre half who needs a season or two to settle. Great well timed tackles tonight.

I thought we lacked a bit of nous when we were on the half way line staring at their defence. We always seemed to play the harder ball instead of playing it wide. Trying to lob their centre backs on numerous occassions just did not work.

Strange deflated acceptance given I would have taken European football after Christmas if asked a few weeks ago. Anyway, even as little as a point against Spartak may now be enough

  23. Starry, what makes you say that? Did you not know that barca are unprofessional and are looking forward to a roasting from a Portuguese mob in their own back yard?

  24. ItaliaBhoy

Broony had a virus for barca game and someone else, i think lustig

suffered as well. Didnt get any breaks tonight.

  25. Ghents

I don’t believe that Spartak are a push over ….it all depends if they send over a shadow squad not bothering or whether they are going to try to salvage some pride

  26. Neil Lennon for me gambled on Brown, Charlie, Joe ledley and Hooper and it didn’t come off. That’s football. Sometimes a gamble pays off and sometimes not.

    Down today but not out.

If the roles were reversed I wouldn’t fancy going to the Nou Camp despite facing a likely shadow side and having to win while a team with a formidable home record played against a team with nothing to play for.
