Berlin to Lisbon

829

A game against Union Berlin, from the second tier of German football, four days before our Champions League qualification campaign gets underway sounds like perfect preparation.  Union will be better than any opposition we have or will play since defeat in Turin last month and they will be miles ahead of our Champions League second qualifying round opponents.

Having to play six instead of last season’s four games to qualify for the group stage has cost Celtic ‘lucrative’ preseason friendlies.  I am sure those charged with the task of balancing the books at Celtic Park (we always pay our bills) will be less than entertained by this, and for many supporters, if feels important that we face Real Madrid or Inter Milan preseason, but the summer time is all about qualifying for the Champions League.  There are five weeks between Celtic’s opening qualifying game and the first leg of the play-off round.  This extra preparation time should ensure we are fitter and ready.

Legend has it that competitive football in July inevitably leads to a drop in form late in the season but legends are not always reliable.  Last year Basel entered Champions League qualification at the same stage Celtic will next season, and next week they become the first Swiss team to play competitive European football in May ever.  Apoel Nicosia entered at the same stage in 2011 and became Cyprus’ first qualifier for the Champions League quarter final last year.

The Champions League final of 2014 will be held in Lisbon, the first time the city has hosted Europe’s top game since………. you know when.  There are 1730 miles between Berlin and Lisbon, or 10 months, if you prefer.  Preparations are already underway.

  1. Morning all.

    Happy 1st of May.

National holiday here – there are quite a few, the last one being all of six days ago!

    Congratulations to Borussia Dortmund.

Sevco investigating Sevco – whits that about – do they really think we are that stupid? ……wonder how it will turn out……not.

  3. Morning,

Only in Scotland could someone like HATEley be given a platform by the MSM to air his views.

  5. HATEley is well named.

He is a HATEful, hurtin’ hun!

Was speaking to a Milan fan some time ago and his name came up.

He said something along the lines of – “Bloody useless he was! …and UGLY! Scored about 20 goals in something like 90 games. He was no Marco Van Basten!”

    HH!!

  6. I wish we could have a sticky about the fact that Sevco haven’t got audited accounts and they don’t need to produce any until December this year and therefore there’s no need for the SFA to demand them.

However that’s not to say there’s not some shamming going on. I suspect the SFA will require some level of comfort about their financial position. How accurate that will be is probably worth a question or two.

Gooooooood morrrrrrning! As the young folks say ‘….the word on the street’ is that CW is about to release some more of his recordings. Apparently he’s been hard at work on that difficult second album.

Guest stars include ‘Ole’ Blue Nose’ Smith, Mumblin’ Minty Murray and Chrome-Dome Ogilvie. Backing vocals are provided by at least one self-styled former ‘proper newspaperman of the year’.

The oldest young manager in Scotland has decided that Craig Mather is a man he can work with.

Rangers were deducted 10 points in Feb 2012 because they went into administration.

It was beyond the Scottish football authorities control.

15 years of previous known abuse were not acted upon by the Scottish football authorities.

    Still so.

Immediately moves were underfoot to facilitate their re-entry into Scottish football’s top tier.

A complete depraved indifference to sporting integrity and fairness and justice.

To my pleasant suprise the average Scottish football punter spoke out in defiance and as a result the pariahs were parachuted into SFL 3.

It was beyond the Scottish football authorities control (apart from the SFL3 bit).

They should have been obliterated from history right then and there.

Efforts are being continuously made by the Scottish football institutions to facilitate their rehabilitaion so that they can “humiliate the tims”….heh its the way I tell em!

    Still so.

Even now in retospect they have been corrupt and criminal beyong reproach nothing has been done by the Scottish football authorities.

Maybe Gilmour is waiting to see if they buy his St. Mirrendom. Who cares?

They should be obliterated from history right now.

Through it all Celtic realy did nothing.

Still not sure if that was a good idea.

    History will tell.

    I have my doubts.

Ogilvie is still there. Regan and Doncaster too.

Even the Scottish judiciary came out in their favour.

So what has become of the beautiful game?

On the day that Havelange is proven corrupt and a Spanish judge orders blood to be destroyed (probably some footballers blood in there I suspect along w/Nadal).

    Total corruption everywhere.

Juventus players wrestling Celtic players to the ground at corners is nothing really.

  9. Good morning CQN, from a sunny Nordrhein Westfalen a high of 18*C predicted today. Happy May Day, a public holiday here with everything shut but not the pubs.

Funny how this picture emerges today after me discussing it on here yesterday, probably coincidence?

    The Mother of my God;

    The Virgin of all virgins,

    Of David’s royal blood.

    O teach me, holy Mary,

    A loving song to frame;

    When wicked men blaspheme thee,

To love and bless thy name.

Someone needs to have a word with Craigy Bhoy he is a bit tardy with his latest releases, they are well overdue. Whyte won’t be releasing any tapes of Minty. Whyte doesn’t slag off Minty. Minty claims he was duped and that’s as far as he took it.

For months we said Whyte hadn’t gone away, and he hadn’t. Does anyone think Minty has?

Minty was in dire straits. Minty has recently secured a massive debt for equity swap with the bank.

You can work out the rest.
