Boycott call as Celtic fans money promised to re-establish Rangers

1670

The Gang of 10 SPL club who will meet next week will decide whether or not we have a morally sound and ethically administered league. The meeting wasn’t announced three hours before overtures were being made on terms a Rangers Newco would be prepared to agree to in order to win their backing.

Effectively, the other 10 will asked to hold their noses, put all moral judgement aside and tell Rangers Newco the terms they need to agree to in order to get back into the SPL, retain their history and limit consequences of the alleged improper registration of players. Some of those hoping to front a Rangers Newco are prepared to do whatever is necessary to get back on a level playing field with those who have spent the last 20 years playing honest football and paying their taxes.

The question to be considered is not just what is ethically right in sport; it’s more personal than that. This is about what is going to happen to your money, the football club that defines who you are, and your relationship with the game for the rest of your life.

The schemers and cheats are not beaten and they are not going to give up. There is no honour, no ‘dignity’, no moral compass that understands there are consequences for decades of rampant abuse. All there is, is a sense of entitlement that I struggle to comprehend.

That sense of entitlement is about to promise bucket loads of your cash to someone else in order to restore the old certainties. This time, they are not even going to use the tax man’s money, they are going to use YOUR money. The money you put into the game will be distributed and used to flush the smaller clubs, who will in turn restore Rangers to their position of ascendency.

This is not sport, it’s a disgusting abuse of Celtic fans. You are not even being asked, you are being expected to open your wallets and pay whatever price it takes to put Rangers back on top.

I have never called for a boycott of a newspaper, never mind a football game, but this is not football anymore. We cannot be party to this. It is not a passing-issue either. Rules are being made with consequences that could last 100 years.

You have suffered from decades of malpractice and have earned the right to go to Ibrox in two weeks to enjoy the reflection of honest endeavour. After this, our next away game will be at Kilmarnock. If the Gang of 10 attempt an insurrection using your money, join me in a picket outside Celtic Park when these tickets are available for sale, and outside the away gates at Rugby Park on game day, to explain to Celtic fans the consequences of supporting the clubs who would use your money to establish a new Rangers.

Unite and bring the full power of Celtic against those who would rather do a deal with the devil than establish an honest, even, playing field.

If the Gang of 10 give Rangers Newco their way, using your money, we cannot go back to an away game, not this season, not ever. We must demand this discipline from each other and insist the club refuse all away tickets.

Having paid our taxes, registered footballers in an honest manner and brought international acclaim to Scottish football, the Celtic Movement is being corrupted by the lowest common denominator.

Our magnificent sporting institution is being destroyed. For the love of all that is decent and meritocratic in the game, we need help from England, Europe or wherever to move out of Scottish football.

I am just about finished with the entire, corrupt, shambles that masquerades as a sport.

  1. I alluded to this on Paul’s article last night that the meeting of the gang of 10 was about on what terms they would allow the huns in.

If UEFA are unwilling or unable to hep out and this comes to pass, a bhoycott is a must.

It’s not about a GIRUY to the smaller clubs as much as a statement about who we are as a club, sporiting integrity and not tugging the forelock.

  3. If there is a boycott, I suggest fans stay away from the grounds. Don’t congregate on the streets and don’t march. With these new police powers, it’s asking for trouble. Just stay at home. Empty seats inside the stadium (and empty coffers) will be enough for the world to see what’s happening.

No one who doesn’t go to away games should call for a boycott,it would distort the feelings of Celtic supporters who do go to the away games.I haven’t been to an away game for about three years, and feel that I have no right to ask a genuine away game supporter,to boycott any away game.

I fully support what Paul67 has written, but leave the decision to boycott games to those it would concern, the travelling support.

  17. We will not stand by as the other 10 Chairmen do a dodgy deal with the Evil Empire.

The thing that confused me most when the EE went into administration was the timing of the event; I wondered why Whyte didn’t do it when they were 15 points ahead; so obviously with a 10 point deduction they would still have been top of the league.

Recent events might go some way to explain it. The administrators were appointed by Whyte himself; and seem to be at least; dragging their heels; if not blatantly playing a stalling game to allow for other negotiations to take place.

It is now reported that the other 10 teams in the SPL are to meet to discuss the plight of the most dishonest and obnoxious team in the history of Scottish Football; so what kind of deals will be done behind closed doors without the input of the most powerful team in the league?

It is well known that Celtic along with their rivals bring more to the financial table than all the rest put together; and by quite a considerable margin; it is also well documented that the Glasgow 2 have the power of veto over the other 10 with an 11-1 vote required on some issues.

If the 10 think they can use the current situation to drive through a better deal by blackmailing the EE into concessions; in return for not opposing their return to the SPL with a clean slate; then they better be prepared for doing so without the financial input of the Celtic Support.

We have had many causes for Bhoycott’s in the past; we were cheated on a weekly basis by officials who claimed it was honest mistakes. We were treated with disdain by previous officials of the SFA like George Peat and Jim Farry. Our supporters have received sectarian and racist abuse at almost every ground in Scotland.

Well we are not the whipping bhoys anymore; we will not be treated like second class citizens anymore; we contribute about 35% of the total financial supporter input to Professional Football in Scotland; and we will wield the power of the green pound for the benefit of our team and its supporters.

If chairmen like Michael Johnston at Kilmarnock and John Yorkston at Dunfermline think they can use this situation for the benefit of their two bit teams; then they better think carefully before they act.

Kilmarnock claim to be a big team; they sent back thousands of tickets for the league Cup Final next week; which are now being taken up by the only true big team in Scotland’s supporters; would they have sold more tickets if the final had been against their brethren from Govan? Probably.

As for Dunfermline and their anti-Celtic chairman Yorkston; does he think he can drive through a vote for reconstruction with the support of new Rangers? Does the same go for Gilmour at St Mirren?

If these chairmen; and the others in the SPL; to further their own agenda; use the present situation to allow a new Rangers to come back into the SPL without the appropriate sanctions; then they had better be ready for a backlash from the Celtic Support.

This Rangers; have been cheating the rest of Scottish Football for God knows how long; probably since their inception in one way or another; they have absolutely no thoughts for anyone but themselves; they deserve to be punished; and punished strongly.

We will be watching closely in the next few days and weeks; we will find out who is behind any moves to allow a smooth path for a Newco; I have already mentioned three chairmen; but I would warn them all.

I believe if the Newco was forced through by the collaboration of the other 10 clubs; the Celtic support will respond with the appropriation action. We will call a public meeting of all Celtic supporters; and we will ask them to support action against those who are culpable.

If they think we will stand by and watch as they slither to make decisions which are against the basic concept of fair play and integrity; then they have another think coming. I am confident that the Celtic support will react in the proper manner. Joe O’Rourke Celtic Suppoerters Association

While a boycott of away games will no doubt hurt the gang of 10, I believe they will view this as a short term problem. Ultimately this was always going to come down to a them & us scenario. From Paul’s article it looks like they’ve made their decision. We should have said to hell with this league years ago but this should now be the final straw. Apply for the conference league or find somewhere else to play. Heck even arrange a season of friendly’s. Would much rather watch a Celtic V Milan friendly than give Scottish Football another thin dime,

Will csc’s who gather in clubs and pubs to watch games be not watching the games and also would we be crossing the picket line if we collectively listened to the game on radio?

  25. the answer is easy.

celtic as a club should withdraw from all away fixtures.

    arrange friendlies at home rather

An outstanding article. You’ve reached a point that I did maybe 6 months ago. And even that had been growing for a long time.

What we are seeing here is what we suspected all along. There are no limits to the action that will be taken to preserve Rangers. And everyone must pay. The tax payer, other football teams and even their own players. Everyone must make a sacrifice to preserve these leeches.

The rallying cry is “Scottish football needs a strong Rangers!”. I would ask why? Henry McLeish, when he undertook his study of Scottish Football (with a view to making it healthier) pinpointed the years when the league was a 10 team setup as being the halcyon years. This was based on empirical evidence rather than opinion. Somewhat fortuitously for us, it also busts the myth about needing Rangers. The years the league was the strongest – and by strongest I mean competitive AND doing well in Europe, were the years that Rangers were a mid table side, and Celtic were duking it out the Aberdeen, Dundee United and even Hearts for the league.

Rangers contribution over over the years has been as nothing more than a leech. Cheating and adopting an all take and no give approach. They’ve distorted the transfer market as a consequence of their financial doping, cheated other teams out of competing, and yet me must save them? Nonsense.

The sad fact however is that we should shut up shop. The battle has been lost. The league is corrupt, society is corrupt and Celtic gave up all vesiges of being the proud charitable institution we once were in favour of doing deals with sweat shop companies, drinks firms and gambling sites. English football is no better. Another cess-pool of greed and avarice.

I thought I’d enjoy Rangers demise. In fact it just makes me sad to see so many gulled by idiotic arguements. When the best Keevins and his ilk can think of to justify Rangers is “Think of the TV money”…Why not just start a porn site if fiscal return is the be all and end all? Or open an investment bank? I want to see sport. I want to see honesty and purity.

Except that I’m going for an extended stay in hospital (hip problems from playing too much football while a bit injured) and will be off my feet for maybe 6 months I’d happily join you in a pickett.

If Paul67 is correct ( and I assume that he has some inside track) the SPL Diddy teams are going to vote the FoD back into SPL.

They are going to use this as an opportunity to redress the balance in Scotland.

The belief is that the FoD coming back in, will be at the price of an agreement to change voting structures within SPL away from 11/1 ( which allowed the ‘Old Firm (sic) to block the majority)

The FoD and ourselves have acted out of self interest , not very democratic , the Diddy teams are acting out of self interest.

I can not blame them for looking out for themselves.

However one (re-entry of FoD) is not dependent on the other ( change in the balance of power)

Expulsion of FoD from SPL would surely in itself achieve the necessary balance shift.

The current 10 (+ Ross Co next season ) would leave us exposed to whatever change they wanted to vote in

So why would the SPL 10 let the FoD back?

I think the debate next week ( if the attendees have any brains) may cover more agenda items than we are currently fretting over.

    What might the agenda be?

Wee 10 Agenda ( Secret Location)

Item 1 : FoD . Should they be voted back in Yes / No?

    Points to consider before voting

If vote Yes : What do we ask for in return? Equitable split of TV revenue , change of SPL voting rules etc. ( 9/3 , 8/4, 7/5 ?) Discuss

If vote Yes : How will this be received by our own fans? Discuss

If vote Yes : Will we lose some of our home support ? Discuss

: will we be accused of capitulation ,throwing away our only chance to compete ( it may be a 3 year window) for Europe Discuss

If vote No What does this mean this season?

If vote No : No Relegation this season + Ross Co Promoted

If vote No :We get to vote all the changes we want at our first meeting next season

If vote No : We maintain integrity of our league

If vote No : What will the absence of of the FoD cost each member team ? Discuss.

: What will the new new era (with out FoD )mean in terms of bigger home gates to those teams who can now chase the Euro spots etc. Discuss

: How much more will the remaining teams receive from equitable split of TV revenue. Discuss.

Will the new structure (and the associated pluses ) be more beneficial than the loss of FoD income? Discuss

Paul67 is mobilising his army and advocating a boycott of away games.

    A little hasty.

We do not know what the outcome is yet.

If we secure the principal of a boycott of away games (before the 10 meet ) then we will ensure that a more aggressive option will be put on to the agenda

eg a division of the home gate between both participating teams.
