Brilliant Oranje, notorious Franz

2184

Absolutely delighted the Dutch injected some swagger into the World Cup last night.  Diego Costa continued the pattern this week of Brazilian born players profiting from a tumble inside the box, gifting Spain an early lead from the penalty spot, but the Dutch were irresistible.

Exactly how they managed to improve their performance against Spain, four years after losing the World Cup Final with the imperious Edson Braafheid, is a mystery of the modern game.

Netherlands scored all those goals and created even more chances with a meagre 36% possession.  If they were German, we would be reverting to the national stereotype that they were the epitome of ‘efficiency’.

Speaking of the Germans, I’ve always had a lot of time for Franz Beckenbauer, but to find himself banned from football for coming up short in a matter with the words “Fifa” and “ethics” in it, must make him the most notorious German since, erm, well, in quite a long time.  With his former Bayern Munich teammate Uli Honess due to be jailed this month for financial maleficence, it’s better to assume no one in the game is above sticking his snout in the trough.

The soul of football depends on the outcome of this Fifa investigation; no one should be above its reach.  Beckenbauer’s provisional ban should be verified.  Kick him out the game.

Fantastic stuff on the blog yesterday from Bertie Auld; what an honour to have these great guys among us.  I’m heading to the Celtic Shop on Argyle St today where Bertie, Tommy Gemmell and John Hughes will be signing books between 13:00 and 16:00.  If you’re in town I’ll see you there.

The Big Cup’s going to be there, so bring a camera.

    Spot on fella. Well said.

    Yeah, the ‘happy-clapping’ erse-lickers amongst todays Celtic support who have, through their blind-faith for Celtic which is either, commendable or apathetic have seen to it that, Celtic FC have a ‘bored’ who don’t have to be accountable to no one.

    Yeah….new song their gonnae be playing over the tannoy at CP – “Put yer hands in the air, simple Simon said….”

    I even read a, stomach churning, nauseating post from a poster who shall remain nameless when he said – “The next time we play the huns, I wont go to the game but, I’ll go up and make sure I give my money for the seat to Celtic!!!!” Btw…how’s the weather?

    Is this the Celtic support of today? WTF?

    Is Fergus sending out letters to various planted ‘sooks’ to get the seats filled for flag day so that he disny have to answer questions re: Why are there so many empty seats?

    Is Neil on the telly today to tell us that he has finally figured out, how to beat Morton?

    Anyway….enough good cheer from me…away to listen to Pharrell on the i-pod :)

    The ruling classes are shitting it, they will not allow this referendum to be fair, ‘they’ have too much at stake, ‘we’ have everything to gain, this is not about the team you support it could be life or death though, if your poor or sick, being both in a few years time with Westminster proving the pocket money and a spending program, yer deid!

    Talk to the undecided, make them see not a land of milk and honey but a land with its people driven into the dust by the public schoolboys in London and Edinburgh!

    Without taking sides on it,it is illegal in Scotland to bless yourself in an aggressive or threatening manner.

    Make your own mind up on it,but that is what the law states.

    ===================

    Read MWD comments,

    if you feel you have to bless yourself in an aggressive or threatening manner then you really have to ask yourself questions about your own faith and what it means to you

    I would think that if a sevco fan ran upto you and waved a sash in your face then they would fall foul of the same law

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~++~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Erm,whit?
    Nobody mentioned a sash. They can do what they want.
    Although foodbanks should not be necessary they exist all over the UK not just in Scotland.
    Can I just remind CQN’ers that Scotland has devolved powers, and that AS has been first Minister since 2011.
    The devolved powers include Health, Education, Housing, Social work and Law.
    The Trussell Trust, who I have no reason to disbelieve, says the huge increase in food banks use is driven largely by hardship caused by benefit delays, welfare reform and low pay.
    I’m not saying an independent Scotland would deal more successfully than Westminster, but the above are non-devolved issues.
    That is a very interesting point. It is quite odd that 17% of Scotland is nominally Catholic but not one of those 850,000 is good enough to get into the Scottish cabinet. And that’s a cabinet containing Alex Neil. I’ve no way of knowing what goes on in SNP heads but they have history on sectarianism. Remember the Falklands when SNP President Wolff urged support for Britain on the grounds that the Argentians were Catholics.
    Wonderful news, thanks to all involved, looking forward to receiving this very special item.
    Received the news just after finishing “The Road to Lisbon” where Yogi,Bertie and Tommy are spoken about so highly, so the day that shaped so much has been in my head all day.
    Will probably look at this programme very carefully, show it to all my family and then return it to CQN for auction for deserving causes.
