Brown and Lustig with international and Champions League conflicts

848

A year ago you and I discussed Scott Brown’s fitness with some concern for the season ahead. Since then the captain has not skipped a beat, his form and availability for selection have been without question.

It is clear he can cope with a Scotland game this weekend, and no doubt finish the season untroubled, but Scotland have an international against England on 10 June, two weeks after the Scottish Cup final, and four weeks before Celtic’s Champions League qualification campaign gets underway.

If Scott is to participate in all games, he will have a week off after the Scottish Cup final before being called into the Scotland squad, then two weeks before Celtic’s preseason training starts. For a player of his age, with his injury profile, this schedule would not allow sufficient recuperation ahead of a new season.

Selfishly, the most important thing to you and I, and to Celtic, is Champions League qualification, more so than the Scottish Cup, or than a season of invincibility, delightful, though both would be. What Brendan Rodgers backroom team need to do is prepare Scott as thoroughly as possible for the middle of July. Planning should start now.

If there’s another player in the Celtic squad who I would also like to ration his football it’s Mikael Lustig. The Sweden international is likely to be involved in both their international squad in June; a World Cup qualifier against France and a derby against Norway.

If Scotland fail to get a positive result against Slovenia on Sunday, Scott might consider it best to retire from the international stage, again. He and Mikael could do with a few weeks on the beach at the end of the season.

A tough bunch of lads the Slovenians

all the old tricks..off the ball intimidation

thought the ref did well to book so many ..eventually

delighted to see Scottish lads handling that without resorting to dafty retaliation stuff

thought the young Celts stood up well , Kieran and Stuart came in for attention and stood up to them.

thought broony and chico had their measure and left them wondering about their plan B

disappointed in Moussa and Sinclair, not showing …..as for Lustig……completely anonymous

3 wins and a draw will see 2nd place in a ‘head to head’ in last game

    take that right now

Andrew Robertson was let go with us because he was to wee, his uncle is one of the coaches who runs our younger teams, Andrew went to Queens Park and hasn’t looked back since

  3. Ah well, all the Bhoys will be desperate to play against England in June, and rightly so.Not great for us,but what can you do?.Watched England against Germany, and they are a very good team, but who knows.

  4. KT a standout at RB, i feared for the bhoy being played out of position, his bursts forward last 10 mins were exceptional, well done to Stuart Armstrong, a top player who has came back from being written off by many, mental strength to the fore.Give him a new deal please.

  5. The Slovenians were cute tonight, I think everyone of their players who, if booked, would miss the next game – Malta at home – got booked.

    Cute or cheating?

  6. Turkeybhoy,

    glad to see you on,

Glad they let Jinky sign for us.

Glad also that Andrew Robertson took our too wee refusal on the chin and has made it.

    Brilliant wee fitba player.

  8. Although I don’t really support yon old RSFA team any more with any level of passion I did find myself willing the hoops lads onto a victory and even let out a small yeah when Chris Martin scored from what was brilliance from SA. Keiron was outstanding and wee Jamsie did well too. Scot Brown played well but for a couple of slack passes. Leigh was were I expect him always to be on the end of goal scoring opportunities and with a wee bit of look could have had two and definately should have had one.

Snodgrass and Morrison had decent games. Gordon pretty much had nothing to do, a couple of high balls apart. Mulgrew did what he always does and put in a functional display.

Robertson played we but if KT was on his natural side I think the right back would have been ran ragged and far more goal scoring opportunities would have been created.

They might even have perked my interest a wee bit for their next game against our Southern cousins of Little Britian.

I think WGS was Empowering the wee KT laddie.

Armstrong was Awesome. His intelligence…. Incredible.

Garry said he was a Leo Sayer a long Time ago.

Stuart is off to World Class.

Have you ever read the Koran?

    Just asking out of interest.

I’ve never. But I don’t judge a whole religion on a minority, that’s a real minority not a Hun minority, who use their religion to act in the way they do. Just like I don’t judge those of Christisnity, Jewdeism or any other religion based on their beliefs but their actions. You know Christians like Obama, Theresa May or may not, Tony Blair. All those Christians who inflict evil from their safe rooms.

I know many Muslims of the Islamic faith. One or two Jewish folk I’ve met in my time too. They are not evil and neither is their faith just because some use it as a reason for evil.

  11. A toughie tonight but playing against hammer throwers every week helped condition our bhoys who did well to face the physical Slovenians.

Broonie did manage to make his mark. :)

  12. Just hope the bhoys, especially Griff, have escaped serious injury tonight. Well done, Stuart. You will turn out to be one of our great Celts in the years to come.

  13. Moonbeamswd,

Truth be Told I’ve not read it.

  14. Danny Boi when I link to Dr Future. That is my thinking.

Jinky and Andrew Robertson are a bit different, these days size matters, plenty of players have slipped through the net but I know formal fact Andrew Robertson went to Queen’s Park because Celtic inner management thought he was too wee…. That’s a fact

Well done Scotland and well done the Celtic contingent.

“Muslims, nae problem. Islam BIG problemo.”

“The Blessed Mother has said: “Tell everyone it is you who are divided on earth. The Muslims and the Orthodox for the same reason as the Catholics, are equal before my Son and me. You are all my children. Certainly all religions are not equal, but ‘All men are equal before God’. It does not suffice to belong to the Catholic Church to be saved. It is necessary to respect and obey the Commandments of God in following one’s conscience.

Those who are not Catholics are no less creatures made in the image of God and destined ultimately to live in the house of God our Father. Salvation is available to everyone without exception. My Son Jesus redeemed all people on earth. Only those who refuse God deliberately are condemned by their own choice. To him who has been given little, little will be asked for. To whomever has been given much (Catholics, Christians, who know) very much will be required. It is God alone , in His infinite justice, who determines the degree of responsibility and renders judgement.” (from The Visions of the Children – Janice T Connell)

  17. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Saltires , if you are still about.

Andrew Robertson is possibly a distant cousin of ours.

I think his grandather was my dad’s brother, Willie (the Pollok branch not the Johnstone branch)

  18. Armstrong is turning in to some player. A potentially great Celtic midfielder in my humble opinion.

Hard working. Aware. Good passer. Good finisher. Can go past an opponent. Intelligent.

Seems like a nice guy too.

Haven’t been posting much lately. Something to do with limiting on line time in pursuit of better balance. But the Celtic gene needs regular feeding. CQN most days for updates!

Bring on the league title at the weekend!

One player ran and controlled that game tonight. Stuart Armstrong’s high intelligence and patience helped win a must win game for his country tonight. Chris Martin did his job well too. Magic! :)
