Burden of history against Kilmarnock

890

I don’t like the run-up to home games against Kilmarnock, this was especially so when Gordon Strachan was manager.  Someone would always ask Gordon the 1955 question, “Gordon, did you know….”  If you don’t know the question, don’t go looking for it.  It’s a fact that should ostensibly give you confidence but it only puts me into a nervous disposition.  During Gordon’s time, every game felt like a must-win game.  The carnage on here after a 2-2 home draw with Dundee United lives long in the memory, so the burden of a reversal at home to Kilmarnock would have been intolerable.

Celtic have an enormously impressive history which can inspire great things in the support but sometimes it’s evidently a burden to those having to go out and win the next game.  Jock Stein’s famous, “The Celtic jersey doesn’t shrink to fit inferior players” quote was meant to inspire greatness and awe, but I’ve seen it used to damn contemporary players who were in no way inferior to some who played for Celtic in Jock’s latter years in charge.

Kilmarnock beat Rangers last time out and will feel as though they let two points slip away against us earlier in the season.  Celtic should be sufficiently concerned to avoid premature Christmas cheer.

Best wishes to our friends at the Melbourne No. 1 CSC, who will be celebrating Christmas during tomorrow’s game.

you think far too many posters are argumentative and talk p@sh –

of course you don’t fall into said category -not ever?

I remember I set a wee fun friday crackerjack question for a bottle of malt: you responded (not quoting my name?) with wrong answer a few times and when finally corrected to the right answer you added that said question was p@sh

how does that square with your post above?

  5. Whether or not the Huns have a fire-sale in January depends purely on whether such a course of action is in the interests of Craig Whyte. What is best for Rangers is almost certainly of no concern to him – the interests of the football club and CW may overlap, but his main concern is how he can exit RFC with a profit.

I believe his initial aim was quite simple: Use the fans money to purchase the debt (in the form of season ticket revenues, (or mortgaging these in the future); set himself up as main creditor; use European money to fund his “warchest”; and sit back and wait for the FTT verdict. As revealed in the Bain Papers, CW speculated that a bill over 15million would see insolvency; anything less could be lived with one way or another.

Insolvency would see him clean up, as the main creditor. Survival for RFC would see him suddenly owning a valuable asset which he would almost certainly be able to sell to collection of RFC-minded individuals. Either way, a nice profit for Craigy boy, and probably no blame attached to him if it all went tits-up.

Unfortunately for him, Master Tactician Sally managed to get the team pumped out of 2 European trophies at the hands of comically bad opponents. As soon as that happened CW had a problem- no Euro money meant that there was no cash to fund his warchest. On top of this, arrestments piled up and HMRC began to box clever about other bills owed to it. Suddenly cash-flow was his central worry.

The result is that CW is embattled: He cannot get the accounts signed off (a remarkable humiliation for RFC and one that is attracting scandalously little attention in the MSM); and he faces the prospect of running out of money before the tax case crystalises. In this new situation, a fire-sale of playing assets may well be a wise course of action – certainly it would keep the whole show on the road for another few months.

On the other hand, he may want to brazen it out, keep the team together, and hope a combination of payday loans, late payment of bills, and mortgaging assets can see him through to the championship and possible Euro jackpot. This is a long-shot, but he is clearly a gambler so he might give it a go.

    Illicit Fog

I know some of you have been interested in Mr Smith’s testimony. Apparently it’s all verbal.

    My request:

On the 3 November 2011, Celtic FC played Rennes at a football match at Celtic Park Glasgow. The match commander that evening, a Mr E Smith, made reports to UEFA in regard to what has been described in the media as ‘Illicit Chanting’.

I would like a copy of Mr Smith’s formal report to UEFA, any supporting documentation or recordings and any subsequent correspondence emerging from that initial report.

    From Mr Smith’s Employers:

I refer to your correspondence of 12 December 2011, which was received by Strathclyde Police on that date.

Your request for information has now been considered and I can advise you that Strathclyde Police does not hold any of the information requested by you. In terms of Section 17 of the Act, this letter represents a formal notice that information is not held.

By way of explanation, at all UEFA fixtures the governing body allocates a delegate to oversee the fixture and report on the match official, coaching staff, players and supporter conduct. The delegate will liaise with the police Match Commander both prior to and at the conclusion of the match to ascertain if there were any police issues. At the conclusion of a fixture the delegate will ask the Match Commander for the number of arrests and whether these involved home or away supporters. The delegate will also ask whether there are any other incidents either on or off the field that the Match Commander wishes highlighted within the delegate’s report. This is the point when supporter behaviour will be highlighted, including the singing of offensive songs.

If the Match Commander has any concerns the information is given orally and may be evidenced through the provision of CCTV. Accordingly, the number of times a Match Commander has asked for supporter behaviour, or any other incident, to be included in a delegate report is not recorded by the Force.

As you will be aware, under the Act, an individual can only ask for information that is recorded and held by a public authority, in this instance as any recorded information would be contained within the delegate report that is the property of UEFA and not a police document, the requested information cannot be supplied by Strathclyde Police.

Not the kind of evidencing and recording you might expect in order to produce a conviction?

Really can’t see a problem against Killie, IF we play half as good as we can we will get the 3 points, hopefully Kenny Sheils sets his team up to play football, he seems like an honest genuine football man, unlike his counterpart at the ragers.

Anyways, have a happy festive season, and many thanks for your time giving us this blog, yer an estrella of the highest order.

Well said, MaH. None of these sides are mugs nowadays. Whenever complacency infects the team we are a busted flush. Attitude is 50% of the equation.

Question for historians: which was the last SPL side to have a three goal lead on Celtic at half-time?

BelfastcityCelt I was on the blog until 1am this morning and read this mornings posts.

It looks like you have posted but for some reason they never appeared on the blog, Fortunes Favour was posting earlier in reply to someone at a time when there were no posts, that’s curious innaw. Looks like a server problem.

Additionally, I believe only Paul67 can delete posts and there is no way he was up in the middle of the night deleting posts, besides he always gives the reason why a post has been deleted.

Ps CQN’ers if you’re post is a long one then save it prior to posting, ye know it makes sense.
