Cadete scandal casts shadow

1236

Alexander (Sandy) Bryson has been mentioned in reports concerning another controversial matter in SFA history.  He was Head of Registrations when Celtic tried to register Jorge Cadete in 1996.  That case led to SFA chief executive, Jim Farry, being dismissed for gross misconduct after he failed to register the player in time for him to face Rangers in a Scottish Cup tie.

The Burness report into what happened noted that Farry “deflected responsibility to Mr (Sandy] Bryson (head of registrations] …. (on] certain executive decisions”.  In a contemporary article, Mirror Group Newspapers noted “it is unclear what part registration chief Sandy Bryson may have played in this debacle”.

  1. Pabloh, I’m normally quite calm but the guy on Stv almost had me launching my coffee mug at the screen.

Big Vic picked up a ban for the Aberdeen game last night.

Lets play him and just call it an administrative error.

I made the point earlier – why not make a fourth substitution and say we didn’t gain a sporting advantage because the guy coming on didn’t play better than the guy coming off?

  3. I really don’t get all the unhappiness, rangers died in the summer of 2012, any penalties they’d have got would have been unpunishable anyway given that they’re already dead, the SPL ruling only proves that they are dead and thank everyone that they are.

To have given live punishments to a dead team would have been more illogical than not to hand them punishments, the £250k fine is only a symbolic fine as there’s no means of paying it as they’re dead and consequently unable to generate any money to pay the fine.

  5. LNS should never have been put in the position to rule on the club that is no longer alive .

The SFA & SFL & the SPL did not have the balls to do it so they looked for a way out of it.

Every rule in the book has been changed to keep them alive

This Country is rotten to the core…..imagine what like it would be if we voted for independence…..it would be going back in time by 200 years …….corrupt to the core.

Gents I am totally disgusted with this whitewash and cannot express how I feel about how Scottish football.

I have read and listened to people who have said they will not be back – not just Celtic supporters.

I recognise doing this could mean the evil people have triumphed- they will definitely think so.

But what can any individual do in these circumstances.

I will use my own judgement and will not attend any more games this season. I am a season ticket holder so Celtic will not suffer initially. I will write to Celtic informing them of my reasons.

However if action is not taken by the authorities involved. I will seriously consider not renewing next season.

I am and always will be a Celtic supporter but feel doing nothing is not an option.

Not everybody’s way of dealing with things but I have, after 50 years, had enough.

  8. I’ve read every post today and I’m still struggling to comprehend how this decision has been reached without collusion by corrupt persons at every level of Scottish society

I really don’t know what can be done to change any of this within the structure of the current footballing bodies in Scotland and more so I feel sure now there is no desire by said bodies to change it

So where does this leave Celtic and the rest of Scottish football ?

I would say exactly as we were before but with our “paranoia” fully vindicated by any sane and reasonable person

As I said I have really struggled to get my head around this so now I’m gonna leave it alone for a few hours whilst I watch the excellent Aussie Floyd play the whole of ” Darkside of the Moon” at the MEN Arena perhaps the lyrics of Gilmore , Wright and Waters will clear my mind:-)

  14. It would appear our failure to properly clean out the SFA after the Cadete affair has come back to haunt us, Mr Bryson effectively gave Rangers (IL) an alibi.

Let’s not make the same mistake again. Whatever we have to do to rid these people from the game must be done. Let Rangers take their tainted titles to their grave. But let’s make sure sevco never benefit the way the old club did from friends in high places.

  20. 'crushed nuts?' 'Naw, Layringitis!' on

Can anyone assist in clearing up a point about this saga?

My understanding was that the side letters were used by deidco to satisfy agents’ concerns that players would have to repay ‘loans’ ( and other, as yet unspecified, benefits). The letters confirmed that players were contractually entitled to the money, would not have to repay the money and, in at least one case, the alternative arrangements that were put in place when HMRC came a-calling.

LNS specifically refers to the side letters as confirming the loans.

The FTT appeared to accept that these payments were indeed loans.

    Two questions:

If there were a number of loans paid to individuals, aren’t BDO required to do all they can to recover these loans?

why did both oldco and newco change their position with regards to the LNS tribunal (from no involvement to both being represented)?

    More questions than answers!!!!

“Campbell Ogilvie is a lovely man, a genuine man” says Billy Doddsman……

    ……………………………………………………………………….

Well he would say that when Campbell was a Rangers shareholder at the time of the shennanigans was he not?

Didn’t he only recently transfer them to his wife?

Really we only have ourselves to blame for allowing this Rangers shareholder and EBT beneficiary to hold high office in the SFA.

  22. ‘crushed nuts?’ ‘Naw, Layringitis!’

    19:01 on 28 February, 2013

The ‘loans’ were by and from the trustees of the EBT scheme.

Oldco paid money into the employee benefit trust and the trustees made the ‘loans’.

If they are repaid they are repaid to the trustees of the scheme, not oldco.

  23. pggtips,

but not according to anyone else but Celtic supporters and as long as the compliant media and everyone else continue with this collusion, then that “fact” will be airbrushed from history.

Seriously, when apart from a Celtic supporter, have you heard anyone state that Rangers DIED and they are now a completely new company with no history???

all ive seen and heard today is along the lines of “54 and counting” “140 years unbroken” etc.

Surely you must know by now that history is written by the victors and the propogandists……….and currently that history is being written by them and theirs!

Its all very well us laughing and saying they died etc, but until it is officially stated on TV, radio, press etc no-one will believe it apart from us……and as usual we will be the “paranoia-riddled timmy’s”.

This stinks. The line from oldco initially when an enquiry was announced, was that this was ridiculous and that they had not done anything wrong. This subsequently changed to the only thing they are guilty of was perhaps an administrative error. Low and behold that’s the verdict of the panel.

A deal has been done behind the scenes. Word was put out that they would accept a slap on the wrist along with a clear statement that they did not cheat.

Why did we believe any different?

  25. to see the difference between a company that still exists and one that doesn’t read rangers v leeds utd

both teams in 2002 has £80+ million in debt

the reason why leeds are still alive and rangers aren’t is because leeds embarked on a drastic cost cutting plan even though they had

    1) a better squad than rangers

    2) 2 seasons of parachute epl money that rangers didn’t have

even with those huge disadvantages, rangers still kept on spending like an rbs stockbroker on acid, and that’s why rangers died

for rangers to still be alive today, they needed to cut back on their spending in 02

Murray effectively sacrificed Rangers entire history simply so Celtic wouldn’t win 10 in a row during his watch.

As fas as I’m concerned I’ll take that trade any day of the week.

So to recap the ‘punishments’ dished out by the various authorities and adjudicators in Scottish football……..

    1. 10 point penalty for entering administration.(ineffectual)

    2. £100,000 fine for bringing game into disrepute.(punishment for not paying PAYE and taxes – around £15 m render this more a business plan than a punishment)

    3. One year Transfer embargo (this is a particular favourite of mine Green negotiated this punishment to be deferred until after transfer window shut and Rangers signed more players than anyone else in Scotland)

    4. £250,000 fine for ‘administration error’ ( Years of tax avoidance and non declared payments never gave Rangers a sporting advantage, go figure to be paid for by a liquidated company in the form of pennies in the pound)

If memory serves correctly then that is it(please correct if wrong)

You have to say a massive congratulations to Rangers and all establishment figures for pulling this off, one of the biggest scams in Scottish football. All so called punishments are rendered meaningless. We finally have proof that Scottish football is corrupt.

    ——-

  27. It doesn’t matter what the media say ! Rangers FC established 1872(3?) incorporated 1899 is in the process of being liquidated. They’re dead. Fact.

my point exactly, why a celtic fan would buy anything literally and metaphorically from the scottish sporting press is totally beyond me. a celtic fan who listens weekly to off-the-ball or daily to ‘super scoreboard’ in my view is asking to be laughed at.

the scottish press are just toying with celtic fans, the best thing to do is ignore them, the advertisers will soon let them know what the news is going to be and what the story actually is.

And, on the same day reported in tonight’s EEN.

Hutchison Vale U’16s ejected from Scottish Cup after it emerged a player had not been registered correctly.

The Scottish Youth Football Association, affiliated to the SFA, said the rules had to be applied !

” They have been dealt with along the SAME LINES as other clubs who have committed the same infringement ” … SYFA chief executive said.

That will be excluding Rangers, should have been added.
