Callum, Adam and Arrivederci Jose

135

With 18 months left on his Celtic contract, Adam Montgomery (21) has joined Motherwell on loan until the end of the season.  A loan at Fleetwood Town for the first half of the season was unproductive for the left back, who, as an 18-year-old, manned the defensive fort during Ange Postecoglou’s early weeks in charge at Celtic.

With Celtic scouring the planet for a left back to challenge Greg Taylor, it seems unlikely Adam will return to the fold in any permanent capacity after his loan.  Loans are beneficial for player development at clubs with large squads but sitting on a different bench achieves nothing.

On occasion, such as Callum McGregor’s loan spell at Notts County a decade ago, the player thrives.  Callum returned home and Ronny Deila gave him a platform on which to grow.  A player doesn’t need to make it at Celtic to become a successfully developed youth talent.  Manchester City and Chelsea have an industry harvesting young talent to sell at a profit with barely a minute of preseason action at their parent club.

Everyone who comes through the Celtic ranks until they are 21 should be able to earn a good living from the game at one level.  We need to be able to monetise this route to offset youth development costs.

Arrivederci Jose, sacked by Roma, who sit ninth in Serie A.  He once had greatness and a colosseum full of charm, but there’s a streak to him that is unattractive.  Also, all that feigning of injury back then.  Yip, still too soon.

Loved your stories about your dad following Celtic during the lean years.

My dad would’ve been 95 this year. He and his brother – my Uncle Pat – supported the Celtic from after the war and right through the 50s and probably stood shoulder-to-shoulder with your dad.

I remember him in the early 60s watching TV of an evening as Rangers paraded the Scottish Cup, the final part of the treble. Celtic hadn’t won a trophy for 6 years.

I heard him utter the words, “It must be great to be a Rangers supporter” and even at age 9 I knew he was hurting.

Two years later my dad and uncle took me to Hampden for my first Cup Final. As Big Billy lifted the trophy after heading the late winner against Dunfermline my dad lifted me high and I could see he was crying tears of joy. I hugged him and said, “It’s great to be a Celtic supporter.” The only other time I saw him cry was when my mother died.

I’m sure your Dad would have been on the slopes of Hampden that day as a whole generation of Celtic men exorcised the ghost of painful Rangers supremacy.

    Hail Hail

It puzzles me why the scum Board, are so intent on getting 700-750,into these games.

Any ideas, anyone. The vast majority of their support dont want any,Taigs,Tarriers,Kafflicks,19 the century terrorists ??????,Fenians,Bead rattlers,Papists, entering their”Everyone,Anyone”cesspit.

If, and it’s a big if, Trump stands in November, he has absolutely zero chance of winning.

His stance against legalised abortion will see to that.

Glad you enjoyed them. I love looking back through the clips especially on these football breaks.

Maybe not the huns or the minis but the rest of the league should embrace and encourage our supporters for the atmosphere and colour they bring to their stadiums.

City player slides in to make a tackle, , the ball goes out of play and the ref awarded a corner.

A loud shout of “f@@@ off “ comes from the defender and the commentator said “ I think he feels he should have got the decision”

A refreshing change from the usual apologies if a mic picks up a sweary from the crowd.

  17. Tom McLaughlin,

I have on here more than once said that the 65 Final is, imo, the most important victory in my lifetime. That includes Lisbon, as I don’t believe Lisbon would have happened, if we had not won that wonderful day. It gave the team the confidence to go on to unsurpassed achievement. I will never ever forget Charlie,s perfect corner being bulleted into the net by Big Billy. Still makes me happy to this day.

418 is a hun?? Wow, if he is then that’s some amount of shite and trouble he goes to to post 🤔.

I just thought he was a very disgruntled Celtic fan who maybe had been wronged by the club. Hey,ho. it takes all sorts I suppose.

    Thanks for the info. 💚🤍💛

  19. Parkheadcumsalford and Tom Mc

In my time, the ‘65 Final was the day the world changed for Celtic. I was only seven and although I had been to games since I was four, Hampden was out of the question- I still remember going down the hill to meet the men off the bus, it was like Hogmanay. It was only two years later when we had a party in the house and I , accidentally, had my first whisky. That is a story fir another day!

  20. Kinglubo – That’s a rather naive statement re Trump. There’s very few people like the man but millions agree with his parties policies. Most republicans would prefer to see another candidate, but frankly they would have no chance of winning if they put someone else forward now.

Tom – Trump has a very good chance of winning because the democrats also have a poor candidate who they will likely have to replace soon. Very risky at this late stage. Immigration is the key issue, not abortion.

Shortie have named Celtic before Rainjurz in the headline of its story regarding away fans at derby games.

Yes, a good cup tie. Not always the best quality but it makes for a good, exciting game.

  23. Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Nicolas Kuhn on a five-and-a-half-year contract, subject to international clearance.

Nicolas, who can play on both the right and left wings, has been capped by Germany at Under-20 level, and the 24-year-old spent his earlier years at RB Leipzig, Ajax and Bayern Munich, before moving to Rapid Vienna in 2022, where he has played regularly for the Austrian side.

Speaking after signing for the Scottish champions, Nicolas said: “I feel great that I’m finally here and I can’t wait. Celtic is one of the biggest clubs around and I’m really happy to be here.

“I am really motivated to do well for this great club and I want to get working immediately as we face our challenges in the League and the Cup this year, so I’m really excited for what’s coming.

“In the end, at Celtic, it’s about doing all we can to win every game, so that is the challenge here. I can’t wait to get going and do my very best for our supporters.”

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said: “We are delighted to welcome Nicolas to Celtic. We believe he is a dynamic player who has an excellent level of quality and all the attributes to fit well into our style of play.

“He has the profile we are looking for, he has a real attacking intent, a player with great pace and ideas, the ability to create and score goals and a player with a great energy and work ethic.

“He is someone who can play wide on both sides so he brings with him that versatility for us too, and myself and the coaches here really look forward to working with him.”

  24. Tom, Big Jimmy, PCS, my da would be 100 now, as a young lad he had witnessed the Empire Exhibition side, which he taught me as he could recite it like a litany, taught me the 7-1 team tae similarly, and his favourite player was a wee fly centre called Johnny Crum, the reason I say fly is in the Celtic Centenary video he is said tae have been as fly off the field as he was on it.

So here we were February 1, 1965, and he’s no really talkin tae me at the time, I was a weekend hippie, work and/or college through the week and then from Friday night through to Monday I was leading a lifestyle he just didnae approve of.

So as we walked down to the Station he came out of the shop with the Express, pulled out the racing supplement and for some reason didnae hand me the rest tae peruse on, this time something had caught his eye, so by the time we crossed Balloch Bridge he handed it to me saying “I hate this scheidt son”, the headline read Celtic’s first protestant manager, he then continued “I don’t care if he’s a heathen Chinese as long as he gets us back tae the top”.

So, lets fast forward to April 24 that same year and I’ve just left the national stadium where I saw grown men and women greetin, and who should I meet but my da, he has a huge grin on his face as he hugged me.
