Callum, Adam and Arrivederci Jose

135

With 18 months left on his Celtic contract, Adam Montgomery (21) has joined Motherwell on loan until the end of the season.  A loan at Fleetwood Town for the first half of the season was unproductive for the left back, who, as an 18-year-old, manned the defensive fort during Ange Postecoglou’s early weeks in charge at Celtic.

With Celtic scouring the planet for a left back to challenge Greg Taylor, it seems unlikely Adam will return to the fold in any permanent capacity after his loan.  Loans are beneficial for player development at clubs with large squads but sitting on a different bench achieves nothing.

On occasion, such as Callum McGregor’s loan spell at Notts County a decade ago, the player thrives.  Callum returned home and Ronny Deila gave him a platform on which to grow.  A player doesn’t need to make it at Celtic to become a successfully developed youth talent.  Manchester City and Chelsea have an industry harvesting young talent to sell at a profit with barely a minute of preseason action at their parent club.

Everyone who comes through the Celtic ranks until they are 21 should be able to earn a good living from the game at one level.  We need to be able to monetise this route to offset youth development costs.

Arrivederci Jose, sacked by Roma, who sit ninth in Serie A.  He once had greatness and a colosseum full of charm, but there’s a streak to him that is unattractive.  Also, all that feigning of injury back then.  Yip, still too soon.

The profile fits the “model” if only just.

That is your opinion, dont get your only just comment CB,you seem to be prioritizing an abstract model over a real signing, and furthering that looking for division with BR and the board,i dont get it.

OldTim has found himself back in the local hospital FVH (A22) has been for over a week or so. His niece does most of the liason thing, though he has had some other visitors. Nothing life threatening or terminal but Docs finding causes difficult to diagnose. Switching around his meds etc. May get switched to local Community Hospital before getting back out. Not easy to get through on the phone though you might get lucky.

  6. AN TEARMANN @ 7:57 AM,

You seem to be a much better Nazi-hunter than Witch-finder general.

No need for a Witch hunt here, and my welcome for Nicholas was more sincere than yours…

The model has been reiterated many times on CQN leads, the manager has referred to the “model”.

The Chairmen reiterated our “successful proven strategy” in his annual report statement.

It is far from a figment of my imagination!?

When was the last time we signed a player over twenty five?

Of course the Chairman also stated the “the need to sign players who are able to make an immediate impact and deliver footballing success.”

So hopefully we’ll see a few of those players in as well.

A general note on our moneyball strategy, it can be a very useful and effective part of squad recruitment planning.

My issue(s) is this, we sign far to many development players, we need to focus more on our “homegrown” bhoys and for various reasons we don’t implement it well.

    Have a good yin’

    Hail Hail

  7. Go Radio get a football analyst from Austria to give his opinion on what Celtic fans can expect from Kuhn .

It is the most negative comment I have ever heard from a journalist/pundit .

The go radio panel seem stunned .

Kenny Misser lets out a shocked cackle .

His shooting is described as terrible .

    I must admit .

    I am concerned .

    -Nope not a nazi hunter

    -Nope not a witch finder

    – read bits bout a model

Why is asking you a question re

Why does Nicolas ‘just fit” the model ? Cause you to vault onto a narrative that is not there- re nazi, witchfinder.

I know the model is not a figment of your imagination, but were it ‘just fits’ is where i am looking for your answer to your own words

I think ccv was 24 on loan 25 when signed(might be wrong)

Nicolas Kuhn is 1st team ready

Yup a dose of experience would help

We could focus more on our academy/homegrown talent i agree but focus more on restructuring the league via reserves to give a funnel thro to 1st team as i feel the gap with b team to 1st team is to great.

I dont get you were more sincere point

Well done Michael and the team

    Keep well

  9. bournesouprecipe on

Kenny Miller recently landed from the Jozo’s tackle, still and always will be the only player ever to have played for the three “ old firm “ clubs.

  10. AN TEARMANN @ 10:23 AM,

OK, maybe my just fit comment was a bit abstruse.

The point really is that BR states Nicholas Huhn fits the “profile.”

Now, it is far from secret that I’m no fan of this recruitment strategy, in the last eighteen months we have doubled down on it to no good effect.

Remember Brendan Rodgers is on record as stating he only wants signings that can improve the team and are better than what we have.

It seems to me that to get players that fit the “profile”, yet can enhance the team, we are restricting where we are casting our net.

Now, my comment was sincere, my hope is he will be and can be a great asset to the Club, yet you can see from many comments many fholk are far from convinced.

To get a player in that can improve the team, yet that fits the profile could well mean we fall between two stools.

There is no reason for that to be the case other than it’s Board policy; we are inforcing these restrictions, not outside agencies, not real financial restraints, not UCL squad rules.

    It is self imposed.

Now, my feeling is, we really have done our homework here, that we have collective buy-in for Nicholas Huhn.

We have a backroom staff that can develop players with the right skillset, the right athleticism, the right attitude.

So, hopefully we have a player that is first team ready and is going to improve.

    I sincerely believe we have…

    Hail Hail

  11. The Media in this country have all one thing in common, they all have nothing positive to say about our club, but I blame our club for putting up with there lies over the years, even when that rotten to the core of Huns sent a hearse up to the car park all those years ago,but as I have said many they rely on the Huns on buying their papers, while most Celtic supporters don’t read or buy their papers,as for the BBC Scotland ,STV ,and Sky Sports full off Huns ,there is no excuse, but the liars need to keep there jobs ,snakes the whole lot of them .

  12. Also AN TEARMANN, your point on homegrown development is well made.

Why Scottish football want to make it so difficult for Scottish Clubs to develop young Scottish footballers, who knows!?

Yet we must strive much harder to do it.

Why take a punt on Kwon when we can take a punt on Frame?

    Hail Hail
