Callum, Adam and Arrivederci Jose

135

With 18 months left on his Celtic contract, Adam Montgomery (21) has joined Motherwell on loan until the end of the season.  A loan at Fleetwood Town for the first half of the season was unproductive for the left back, who, as an 18-year-old, manned the defensive fort during Ange Postecoglou’s early weeks in charge at Celtic.

With Celtic scouring the planet for a left back to challenge Greg Taylor, it seems unlikely Adam will return to the fold in any permanent capacity after his loan.  Loans are beneficial for player development at clubs with large squads but sitting on a different bench achieves nothing.

On occasion, such as Callum McGregor’s loan spell at Notts County a decade ago, the player thrives.  Callum returned home and Ronny Deila gave him a platform on which to grow.  A player doesn’t need to make it at Celtic to become a successfully developed youth talent.  Manchester City and Chelsea have an industry harvesting young talent to sell at a profit with barely a minute of preseason action at their parent club.

Everyone who comes through the Celtic ranks until they are 21 should be able to earn a good living from the game at one level.  We need to be able to monetise this route to offset youth development costs.

Arrivederci Jose, sacked by Roma, who sit ninth in Serie A.  He once had greatness and a colosseum full of charm, but there’s a streak to him that is unattractive.  Also, all that feigning of injury back then.  Yip, still too soon.

  1. copenhagen outplayed sevco with good football and score both goals direct from corners. They have 1-2 players would strengthen us. Big midfiielder hoiland with impressive engine and great use of the ball eg . Silva for them had one moment but didn’t look interested until he blessed himself walking off.

happy with have signed Kuhn for his pace and passing ability – need some physicality and if we lose CCV , a replacement who can score headers pls.

  2. Watched the last 20 mins of their game. Some ugly looking craturs ,coming through the ranks there.

Can’t wait for Nicholas’ first appearance so that I can make up my mind whether he is a Brendan Rodgers star signing or a Mark Lawwell project /dud. :)

    Turkey bhoy

That will be the home grown players then.

Could you see a handsome one? Noooo

  5. Is our new signing better than abada? I expect we will receive more than we spend in this transfer window.

What was our bank balance at the end of the year? Has it been published yet?

I find it hard to believe that a big move will be made for CCV in this window given that he has had two extended periods of absence since the operation at the end of last season.

However I do think he could well be off in the summer if he stays fit for the remainder of this season.

  7. Dang.

What a day. Two Global all hands meeting, one to start day and one to end. I did have beer in my coffee cup for the second one so that helped.

    BIG JIMMY

Loved your stories about your dad following Celtic during the lean years.

My dad would’ve been 95 this year. He and his brother – my Uncle Pat – supported the Celtic from after the war and right through the 50s and probably stood shoulder-to-shoulder with your dad.

I remember him in the early 60s watching TV of an evening as Rangers paraded the Scottish Cup, the final part of the treble. Celtic hadn’t won a trophy for 6 years.

I heard him utter the words, “It must be great to be a Rangers supporter” and even at age 9 I knew he was hurting.

Two years later my dad and uncle took me to Hampden for my first Cup Final. As Big Billy lifted the trophy after heading the late winner against Dunfermline my dad lifted me high and I could see he was crying tears of joy. I hugged him and said, “It’s great to be a Celtic supporter.” The only other time I saw him cry was when my mother died.

I’m sure your Dad would have been on the slopes of Hampden that day as a whole generation of Celtic men exorcised the ghost of painful Rangers supremacy.

    …………………..

    Thanks TOM.

My DA was at most Celtic games in the late 1940’s ( I suspect ? ), 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s. and beyond.

Being a Glasgow Hackney Taxi Driver, he took on the ROLE of TICKET CONVENOR with that fine body of Fenian Men for a number of years, so I had NO PROBLEM getting Tickets for away Games and Cup games etc.

When Celtic lifted the Scottish Cup, I was NINE and a hawf and with my DA at Hampden.

He would take me to the vast majority of games Home and Away, EXCEPT IPOX. He always told me that I was far too young to go there and have my ears BRUTALISED by the Hun support.

I think I was 12 or 13 when I attended my first game against the Hun at Celtic Park

Soon after, I was going with my mates to these games, as I knew my DA wasnt too keen on taking me.

The CELTS were just MAGNIFICENT during those years.

God Bless YOUR ole DAD also.

Maybe your DAD and my DA are having a few beers in Heaven together reminiscing of the old days and the great days ahead of supporting Celtic FC ?

Now, that would be FUN for both gentlemen.

What time do the PUB Doors OPEN in Heaven ……..Hang on….I will just ask BRRB…He will know.

    LOL

    HH Mate.

  10. Wait a minute…..maybe BRRB is BARRED from Heavens Pubs ?

Thats what he gets for being the OLDEST Celtic CASUAL on record. I tried to tell him that on several occasions and that sooner or later…. being a Celtic Casual would come back and bite him ?

    LOL

    Only Joking BRRB mate.

    HH

  11. BRRB…

What do the BAHAMAS and dear auld Glesga have in common ?

They both cater for mad Celtic DRUNKS.

    NAE OFFENCE Mate.

    LOL

HH BRRB and the small Doll.

    …………………

    Oh…What a night that was.

I was in Pittodrie that night having travelled up from BAIRDS BAR in an old VAN.

I was in amongst the Celtic support when both goals went in. and almost right on line with DI CANIOS Fantastic goal.

God knows WHEN I got hame ?

    LOL

  13. Good Morning Celts – Grand Day To Be A Tim,

Welcome to Celtic Nicholas Kuhn, he will be a great asset to the Club in the run-in, hope him and Kyogo can really hit it off and we see the best from them.

    What Brendan said…

“He has the profile we are looking for, he has a real attacking intent, a player with great pace and ideas, the ability to create and score goals and a player with a great energy and work ethic.

“He is someone who can play wide on both sides so he brings with him that versatility for us too, and myself and the coaches here really look forward to working with him.”

The profile fits the “model” if only just.

That would suggest to me a comprise agreement.

The business side get to sign a player that fits the strategy.

While the football side get a player who has learned his craft at the top level, through top academies and development teams.

Of course he didn’t kick-on after that good grounding but injuries seem to have kept him back.

Brendan used both Jamesy and Paddy first time round as players who could switch wings.

He has pace that the Manager likes and looks direct, we have no one that can play the No10 role, so that’s a plus.

If Nicholas has put his injury woes behind him then we may well have got a real bargain.

    Welcome to Paradise Nicholas.

    Hail Hail

  14. Good morning all from a -4 Garngad, very chilly outside.

    Welcome Nicolas.

Now let’s keep a hold of Abbada and sign another couple of quality players please.

    D. :)
