Can we push SPL fan power one step further?

854

Tomorrow’s Annual General Meeting of the Scottish Premier League is set to be the third great football meeting in the last two weeks.  The Prophet of Armageddon, chief executive Neil Doncaster, will face his shareholders and either have to declare he was being truthful when he told them, and Scottish Football League clubs, the SPL would be unable to fulfil their contractual obligations if Sevco were denied a place in the First Division, or that this was a cunning ruse designed to manipulate clubs and fans alike.

Doncaster was surely encouraged by some in the SPL to adopt his confrontational stance but support from SPL clubs was certainly not universal.  No representatives from Celtic participated in any meetings or conversations regarding the contents of the presentation made to SFL clubs, nor was the club informed or consulted on it.

Well done to the Aberdeen fans who kicked off the Sell-out Saturday initiative.  They hope to sell-out Pittodrie for their 11 August game and want to as many fans as possible to buy season tickets.  The idea has been picked up by clubs throughout the league.

I get the feeling that if supporters groups got together we could use this unique moment, when camaraderie among fans coincided with unparalleled fan power over the clubs, to define a framework for the game we wanted, not something a dreamt up by a Norfolk MBA.

Even if we couldn’t get every fan group pulling in the same direction, a few productive bilateral relationships is all it takes to establish an powerful pressure group.

  10. NextGen games will be played at Firhill will be a cracking atmosphere as Green Brigade will attend.

  11. I`ve only just stopped crying after reading Hugh Keevins piece on that poor wee director. Having to cash in his wifes life insurance, oh that made for me a heavy heart. It`s just so so sad. Can`t we just forget what RFC has done? It`s only money, after all, it aint life or death. (apart from the lives that could have been saved or the hospitals that could have been built or upgraded). In fact, I think we should apologise to Rangers for putting them through all of this anguish. They should be allowed to stroll back in to the SPL straight away, and be given back the 10 points deducted last season so they start this one 10 points ahead. That would teach us to never EVER try to punish the very fabric of Scotland again.

And yes, Super Ally must stay.

  16. Reading back on the blog;it’s uncanny how the msm, even as far-flung as San Francisco (!?), are all regurgitating the same message that must get magically beamed onto their collective hive imagination on an hourly basis, and is designed to repeat,ad nauseam, the same mantra of the lowest common denominator :”Ra Big Hoose Must Stay Open! Ra Old Firm! Wearrapeepil! Ragers! Ragers! Ragers!”

Crude propaganda of the most transparent kind…..yet they expect the gullible to buy this sewage?

Victor is a good prospect that’s all, we can’t stop his agent getting stories out there.

Victor has a long way to go to be anywhere near a £5M+ player. Against the Arabs and Killie (cup final) , Victor was targeted early by opposition midfield, as he has the capacity to build the play from the back, however he has a tendency to dwell on the ball and want too much time. Hence , Neil shuffled the pack early in these games and moved the big man into the back 4.

Victor needs at least another 2 years before he is ready to step up in the physical mayhem of rhe EPL midfield.

High Noon has come and gone – and we’re still no nearer a Club 12 decision from the SPL agm. Surely the bacon rolls have all been eaten by now?

  19. BBC:

Dundee fan Andy texted GERS to 80295: “All this talk of a playoff between Dundee and Dunfermline is ridiculous! The SPL have dismissed the idea of promotion/relegation playoffs since the League was formed. Why should it be any different now? As a Dundee fan I’d rather stay in Div 1 than jump through the Spl’s hoops and play a playoff.”

Does anyone actually want to join the SPL?

  20. bbc:

The Chinese whispers outside Hampden are suggesting it will be Dundee who are named Club 12. But these are nothing more than rumours at the moment.

  21. bbc:

John in Ayr texts GERS to 80295 with a quality suggestion: “What is needed now is the the rule book to be updated. If any club enters administration x punishment happens, if into liquidation apply for div 3 no debate. Instead of this circus we’ve been through.”

That’s far too sensible for Scottish football, John.
