Can we push SPL fan power one step further?

854

Tomorrow’s Annual General Meeting of the Scottish Premier League is set to be the third great football meeting in the last two weeks.  The Prophet of Armageddon, chief executive Neil Doncaster, will face his shareholders and either have to declare he was being truthful when he told them, and Scottish Football League clubs, the SPL would be unable to fulfil their contractual obligations if Sevco were denied a place in the First Division, or that this was a cunning ruse designed to manipulate clubs and fans alike.

Doncaster was surely encouraged by some in the SPL to adopt his confrontational stance but support from SPL clubs was certainly not universal.  No representatives from Celtic participated in any meetings or conversations regarding the contents of the presentation made to SFL clubs, nor was the club informed or consulted on it.

Well done to the Aberdeen fans who kicked off the Sell-out Saturday initiative.  They hope to sell-out Pittodrie for their 11 August game and want to as many fans as possible to buy season tickets.  The idea has been picked up by clubs throughout the league.

I get the feeling that if supporters groups got together we could use this unique moment, when camaraderie among fans coincided with unparalleled fan power over the clubs, to define a framework for the game we wanted, not something a dreamt up by a Norfolk MBA.

Even if we couldn’t get every fan group pulling in the same direction, a few productive bilateral relationships is all it takes to establish an powerful pressure group.

    ========================

    Press Release from ICT

Inverness Caledonian Thistle will add their voice to those calling for the reorganisation of Scottish football.

Club chairman Kenny Cameron said:”We held a highly constructive board meeting today (Sunday) to discuss the current situation.

“We are one of the few clubs with no bank debt whatsoever, so our position is very far from immediately threatening, as has been alleged.

“We look forward to the new season on the back of renewed commitment over the weekend from our major shareholders and sponsors, for which we are very grateful. They fully appreciate that in May we, like other clubs, set our budget for 2012-13 and now there will be real change to the commercial curve because of events outwith our control.

“It is important that our supporters keep making their contribution via season ticket sales. We took their views on board and continue to hold the position that not allowing ‘newco’ Rangers into the SPL is the correct decision.”

He added:”At national level, we are optimistic that the SPL’s sponsors will take due cognisance of the situation in which the SPL finds itself and will stand behind the league.

“Our club has for some time been in favour of an expanded SPL and it is clear now that the reorganisation of Scottish football has to be at the top of the agenda.

“We will be supporting such reorganisation over the coming weeks and months.”

    Goodnight all HAIL HAIL

  3. Man City lost to Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia, a source for all their riches.

There is less wailing from Man City fans about this damage to their prestige than there is for ours. I’d always prefer a win to a defeat but I can not think of one pre-season victory in a friendly that we celebrate and recall.

The fans demand access to these warm up games, games that clubs used to play behind closed doors with no press coverage, and then some demand that we play as well in them as we do in the competitive matches. We are close to demanding an 11 month peak performance from footballers. It is not possible and will not happen.

Thanks for sharing that, I know what you mean and I went through the same stuff.

I’m just logging in after a week’s holiday away in Brittany (walking along the “sentiers de douaniers” for those that know it) with no

    Internet, so bear with me.

For the coming season, my greatest hope and my greatest fear are about to clash.

I grew up in Glasgow, and I’ve known the full lash of the Hun.

A “Hun” for me has only a passing interest in football (the sport), only because of RFC and what that football club represents, but is

fully satisfied that their view of the world is correct: they are unshakable (inbranlable) in their opinion.

I have also known a few decent RFC supporters, but there are alwys differences of opinion, which is ok as long as we are still talking

    about fitba…

    What does RFC represeent?

Perhaps unwittingly, earlier this year Mr Salmond said: RFC represents the fabic of Scottish society.

Mr Salmond was right about RFC and Scottish society.

I believe a lot of folk, unknowingly, by habit, or by subliminal influence (MSM anybody?) “just” support RFC.

Probably RFC, up until a few weeks ago, DID represent the fabic of Scottish society.

As from today, there will be a void: a POWER void.

I don’t know much but I seem to remember from my “O” level History that a power void is a dangerous thing.

A dangerous thing or a great oppotunity?

My greatest hope is that Scottish society can at last throw off the shackles that have been weighing it down for so long, and realign

with the modern world (religous tolerance, etc).

My greatest fear is that we are about to witness a backlash unknown in recent times on British soil.

I don’t have to explain to anyone here that one of the most important reasons for the manoeuvres of recent months is not just to get

some form of “RFC” back into SFA membership, but it is to a curb the certainty of civil unrest.

Yes, Mr Salmond, you were right.

Unfortunately, and I say this as an exiled Scot, we are all about to witness the fabic that so many wanted to preserve.

Hopefully, at the end of a period of purgatory, we will see a a better, stronger and altogether HAPPIER fabric.

    HailHail, Jim

  8. In a strange way we have a lot to thank Jabba for.

His moronic ramblings of armageddon is forcing chairmen into making statements they would not normally make just to calm down the (lifeblood of the sport) fans.

PESKY BAMPOTS EH JABBA so thank you ya t**

  9. Ra Bommur must’ve studied some philosophy:

our club cannot affort to have a player like that occupying one of our strikers roles that is useless.

Striker and Center half still needed. Hopefully Ki can be offloaded ASAP and money used for the 2 positions.

So, as it stands sevco will be paying Neil Alexander £12,000 a week to be their goalkeeper as they kick off their first season in Scottish football,in the third division.

Well done for ‘crossing over’ to this new club. Charles Green must be loving you.

Oh aye, and Kirk “Double Yoker” Broadfoot getting £8,000 a week.

I’ll be surprised if Charlie Green isnae having a wee medicinal drink or three of an evening as he thinks about it.

You see wee Charlie cannae pay for all this, and the one thing you can say about the huns is that they have tunnel vision.

Two Years ago, Murray was the devil, not putting his money into the club and pissing off to his vinyard.

Last year the batton past to Whyte, Murray was forgotten, and wee Craigie became the figure of hate.

Four months ago wee Craigie passed the batton to Duff N Felch and they were the new meanies.

All of the above managed to do what they needed to do and pass on the batton to Charlie Green.

He has obviously been lied to by D&F, SPL, SFA into believing that the zombie club could be saved. Well, that has been unravelling very, very, very slowly.

Expect an exponential increase innthe rate of this after about 4pm tomorrow.

NOW. Whoever is left holding the septic parcel when the music stops will be done in by any number of psychotic bears. Be killed. Cease to exist, of that I am certain.

As I say, nae wonder Mr Green takes a wee coca cola wae a dash of lemonade of an evening. Who can he pass the parcel to I wonder, if anyone, in the very, very small period of time before the music stops. . . ?

Ki is a top class younster that we shouldn’t be wanting to offload before the CL qualifiers. He, along with all the other first team picks, should be super-motiated to qualify.

If we do qualify, keep our best players … and recruit more of the same.

If we don’t, try to keep our best players (Ki and the like, …) and let the lesser players go.

Send out a signal to the SPL and others:

We are Celtic, We are not a selling club!

Turnbull Hutton confirms even more in my mind that the Executives of the SFA/SPL need to be canned ASAP. Scottish football is imploding. If they decide to put the huns into SPL tomorrow its the end of all of it. As of now neither Dunfermline, Dundee or Sevco choppers know what league they will be playing in 2 weeks. I think the SFL come out of it looking better for Scottish football. In fact the SFL should inherit the powers of the SFA and SPL in the interim as the SFA/SPL should be disbanded immediately.

    The Slayer of The Blog.

    We salute you……

  22. Today is possibly the single most important day in Scottish football history since it’s inception.

Today the choice is clear: kill the corruption in the game or kill the game.

Either Regan, Doncaster, Ogilvie and all their cohorts (for there must be many besides them) are sacked or the game is dead.

These individuals are responsible for this shambolic affair.

Whilst the directors/owners of RFC (corpus delicti) are responsible for the calamitous death of their club, the on-going attempts to retain some sort of identity known as Rangers FC have made the administration of the game in Scotland, and thereby the game itself, a total laughing stock.

If the game is to survive and indeed flourish, the game must be run as it is supposed to : “Without fear or favour.”

An oft quoted phrase which clearly is utterly meaningless to the current administrators of the game.

The administrators must be told in no uncertain terms, either live up to that idealogy or get out of the way.

Today is the day when that decision must be made.

I fear that we will end up with some sort of compromise. Recent votes by SPL and SFL have given hope that our game is on the verge of a new beginning. I hope the various SPL members have the courage to take us forward, not back.

Someone posted last night that it was rumoured Regan would resign at todays meeting.

It is certainly going to be an interesting day!

  24. I read those postings, however, as with most things, a pinch of salt is required before taking them seriously.

I don’t see anywhere for Regan to go other than to resign. However, I believe he should be sacked, not allowed to resign.

Sacking him would send a far clearer message to all his skullduggerous friends that their days are over.
