Cash windfall for Celtic fans

998

Readers of Celtic Quick News will know that our club has not been out of debt since Fergus gathered up our cash in 1994 and set about building the new stadium.  19 years later, with the mad arms race which consumed Scottish football over, we stand on the verge of coming out of debt.

The full consequences of this will not be known for years to come but the first material benefit is the £100 discount per season ticket Celtic announced today.  We’re no longer in debt, we can team-build in a measured and sustainable manner, and with Champions League money in the bank, Celtic have cut prices.

I know season ticket holders who missed out on the Barcelona, Spartak and Benfica games as, on top of everything else, they could not afford Champions League tickets.  If we get back to the group stage next season, supporters will be able to buy their season tickets and Champions League group tickets for less money than they paid for SPL tickets this season.

The return of the £50 under-13 ticket is also very welcome, along with a tiered level for older children.  With so many competing distractions, it is important that we bring as many young people into our community as possible.

Peter Lawwell’s comments underline the importance of bums on seats to everything that happens at Celtic, “The backing of our fans has, as ever, been crucial.  Domestically and in Europe they have once again been right with us and we felt it important that we rewarded their commitment by making this gesture”.

More welcome good news for the Champions.

Bayern were too strong , too quick and too good for Barca .

    Real iffy Officiating ——.

Bayern denied a penalty for the Pique handball…

Bayern’s first stemmed from foul play by Dante on Alves.

    Bayern’s second goal was offside.

Bayern’s third goal should have been disallowed —-clear foul by Muller on Alba..

Better team [ by a long way ] won but the standard of Officiating was disconcerting..

  3. Credit to the Bayern management who had obviously done their homework and nullified the Barcelona passing game by drenching their pitch particularly in the crucial centre areas

As seen at half time on TV last night the pitch was absolutely drenched even although no rain had fallen for a couple of days

Struth! It’s now getting to the point that I’m beginning to genuinely feel sorry for that lot. What have they really done to deserve this cruel twist of fate?

  6. In these times of division I think we can all agree that those officials behind the goals in European game have been an unqualified success for the game.

Well The Rangers stagger on Charles Green walks away having made a mint the whole set up is a shambles but the MSM doing there best to put a positive spin on it. No other club in Scotland would get away with what has and is going on down Ibrokes way while the man who started the whole sorry saga Sir David Murray it appears is not to be challenged about the cheating mess he left behind him. The football authorities in Scotland are puppets of the shamed club content to sit back and help if and when they can to keep the whole sorry mess operating only in Scotland would this be allowed. H.H.

  9. At least one part of The Rangers’ statement today is very clear:

“Sevco 5088 was not the acquisition vehicle which purchased the assets of Rangers Football Club.”

So in effect they are saying it makes no difference whether Craig Whyte owns, part owns or is a director of Sevco 5088 Ltd. That company was not the one that bought the assets.

Now if this is true it begs different questions. Why did D&P sell the assets to Sevco Scotland Ltd when another company had an exclusivity clause? And if that clause was somehow to be ignored, why were the assets not sold on the open market to maximise income for the creditors?

And, as an aside, at least they now admit that their new club purchased the assets of Rangers FC (in liquidation) and not the club itself.

    Be strong, big fella.

  12. Hugely impressed with Bayern from what I saw of the game last night.

Barca tend to move up the pitch in close knit triangles, however, this wasn’t often possible last night due to the lack of movement you readily expect of them. For me this was a consequence of Bayern’s pressing and Messi’s lack of fitness. Not sure it was the wisest decision to include him in the starting 11.

The German’s frequently played 20/30 yard passes with pinpoint precision thus nullifying Barca’s own high tempo pressing game.

    Other transfer hype ——-

Ibrahimovic to sign for Juventus .

PSG will buy Falcao if they don’t get Cavani.

Napoli to buy Lewandowski if PSG buy Cavani .

Inter will sell Handanovic to Barcelona .

Bayern are willing to sell Ribery , Robben and Gomez.

  16. Celtic have not been in debt for 20 yrs.

Deducting the cost of the the stadium as an expense against profits has taken 20 yrs because under UK tax law you are only allowed to write off 5% per annum of the cost of buildings. There was an an appeal to have this shortened for football clubs who were forced to have stadiums upgraded. The government more or less said “Yes. Okay. But you’ll have to forego the grants.”

I wish they’d say that to farmers – the only group in the moaning stakes who’d give Celtic fans a run for their money.

Heard on Superscoreboard this morning the fella guidi that writes for some paper said…

‘Celtic need a strikers coach, they have goalkeeping, defence and a midfielder in the back room staff, no striker that could help a Hooper, Watt, Stokes etc. Someone like Chris Sutton, maybe its something they are looking at.’

Seemed to stand out from what they were talking about and he did scribble Chris Sutton’s book so maybe he has heard something?

Wold be a good move to get the big fella back and training the forwards.

I take that theory on board and then look at our defence. What is Mjallby saying to them?

Only one man should be brough in to help the Celtic strikers and that is the KoK’s. He came in for one week and we hit 9 past Aberdeen.

Being worse than the likes of Thomson and Collum would take some doing but the latter stages of both of this year’s UEFA competitions have been marred by some woeful officiating..

Pundit on Italian radio said this about Bayern v Barca..

” Top class football needs top class officials. . Tonight’s officials were poor . The line official’s position at Bayern’s second goal was completely wrong — had he been where he should have been he would have been able to see the offside. “

Happy with the manager we have to be honest. Larsson could be coach and learn his trade. He could be groomed as a future manager when Neil decides to hang up his tracksuit. I think that Neil is here for the long haul though.

Neil Lennon could be Celtic manager easilly for the next decade or two.

  25. Estadio I rarely find myself in agreement with the naturalised sassenach Alan Hansen but he has a point when he says your two centre backs have to play together all the time to develop the understanding necessary to be effective.

George Graham scoured the lower leagues for layers he thought could be moulded into an effective unit. He did it. Arsene Wenger did everything possible in terms of diet and exercise to extend their playing careers. He too succeeded.

I wonder if any of that back line might be interested in a stint at Lennoxtown.

Fully agree and have ranted about it on here too often, its no coincidence that our defence solidified when we settled on a centre half partnership this season.

Last season or the one before Newcastle had the best defence in the EPL playing the same back four til about January/February, a centre half got injured and the goals started flooding in, the manager changes things far too much back there.
