Cash windfall for Celtic fans

998

Readers of Celtic Quick News will know that our club has not been out of debt since Fergus gathered up our cash in 1994 and set about building the new stadium.  19 years later, with the mad arms race which consumed Scottish football over, we stand on the verge of coming out of debt.

The full consequences of this will not be known for years to come but the first material benefit is the £100 discount per season ticket Celtic announced today.  We’re no longer in debt, we can team-build in a measured and sustainable manner, and with Champions League money in the bank, Celtic have cut prices.

I know season ticket holders who missed out on the Barcelona, Spartak and Benfica games as, on top of everything else, they could not afford Champions League tickets.  If we get back to the group stage next season, supporters will be able to buy their season tickets and Champions League group tickets for less money than they paid for SPL tickets this season.

The return of the £50 under-13 ticket is also very welcome, along with a tiered level for older children.  With so many competing distractions, it is important that we bring as many young people into our community as possible.

Peter Lawwell’s comments underline the importance of bums on seats to everything that happens at Celtic, “The backing of our fans has, as ever, been crucial.  Domestically and in Europe they have once again been right with us and we felt it important that we rewarded their commitment by making this gesture”.

More welcome good news for the Champions.

The Doobies reformed with Patrick Simmons and Tom Johnston in 2010.

“I know we won” is one of many exceptional tracks from this album (first in a decade or more) and which features a guest appearance by Willie Nelson. Album is called “World Gone Crazy” winning the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2010.

    Outstanding album!

Capchice. I do no how to wrote proper england just cannot be arsed correcting typo’s… capiche! I am writing from the heart here and if sometoimes a letter or a word gets mixed up……. so WHAT it aint no dissertation! It’s a blog post in support of a comrade)

SFTB – get those shoulders back, get the chest puffed out, get the head held high and use the same positive energy you used to get me and my transit up that hill at Aberdour. You are one of the most brilliant, unassuming and wonderful people that I have had the good fortune to meet. No way are you gonna let some low life, multi persona freakoid get you away from this blog…. you are part of this blog…. you are one of the original founders that makes it tick. That idiot |(idiots) will come and go…. in many guises. Evil always does.

And anyone who thinks SFTB was acting the cyber hard man….. get a feckin grip! It was completely metaphorical…. only said cos that multi faceted clown will never show any of his many faces… and he/ she has a few, as can easily be defined by reading this blog.

Strangely enough, when I did skim back the majority of posts I seen were of koko and the singing dobber….. Like some sort of capitalist triumphalism….. and thats without even reading the content. I take it he scored some point over you tonight SFTB….. so feckin what. He’s a clown….. OK maybe a clown who’s right from time to time. I believe he believes in a business philosophy I despise… and that is “if you throw enough shit at the wall, some will stick!”……. How sad would I need to be to utter those words never mind try and teach them…. Ooh makes my skin crawl. He / she / they may aslo have money, they certainly allude to that. If the Vegas LA shit is to be believed ( I cannot believe he never lost it all during the bank crisis and credit crunch – after all he / she/ they advised everyone to buy shares in the banks HA HA…. Maybe he/ she/ they are charles green and / or craig whyte!!!!!) Know what tho?…. money dont mean feck all to me…. and I would hazard a guess that 75% of the CELTIC family will feel the same… What matters is family, love, trust, respect, faith and looking out for each other….. That SFTB is dripping from your pours. On the other hand we have point scoring, righteousness, self propelling, self giving falseness based on the hierarchy of similar back slapping peers… PaH !! Pathetic! Let them go support maggie (She’s rotting in hell btw!) Let them appreciate monarchy….. laugh at them my friend – that’s why they were put on this planet.

  13. ‘A terrible beauty is born’

    Dublin 24th April 1916.

Approx 1600 Irish patriots took on the might of the British Empire and proclaimed Ireland a sovereign nation. To the surprise and anger of the British the ‘rebels’ held out during 6 days of heavy fighting. In one particular action that was to become known as’ the Irish Thermopylae’ (The Battle of Mount street) 16 Irish Volunteers under the command of a young officer Lieutenant Mick Malone, 3rd Batt Dublin Brigade IV, fought off successive waves of assaults from 2 British infantry battalions inflicting devastating casualties on the attacking troops before the Volunteers were forced to withdraw from their positions. British casualties from the Mount street engagement were 4 officers and 216 other ranks killed or wounded. Lt Malone was killed in action whilst defending his position.

In response to the bravery and tenacity of the Volunteers the British revised their tactics and rather than attempting to assault rebel positions with infantry resorted to using artillery to bombard rebel held buildings. The artillery bombardment resulted in the destruction of large swathes of central Dublin.

On the 6th day of fighting and faced by an overwhelming British military presence, estimated at 18,000 troops, the ‘rebel’ leadership agreed to unconditional surrender.

Initially scorned and ridiculed by the Irish population the seemingly quixotic Insurrection of Easter 1916 actually achieved what its leaders had intend. The courage and sacrifice of the Volunteers awakened a dormant nationalist Ireland. In the 1918 general election Sinn Fein won 73 of the 105 Irish seats contested, almost 70%. With a clear mandate from the people of Ireland for an independent united Ireland Sinn Fein convened the 1st Dáil Éireann in January 1919 and issued a declaration of independence. In 1920 during ‘ Irish war of independence’ local government elections saw Sinn Fein take control of 338 out of 393 local government bodies, county councils, and rural district councils across the whole island of Ireland the results again affirming the Irish people’s desire for freedom.

  18. PETER LAWWELL last night handed Celtic supporters a £4million season-ticket bonus.

And the Hoops chief executive could spend £5m on a new star for them to watch.

The SPL champions have slashed the cost of briefs for next term, with £100 taken off the standard adult price.

But that won’t mean Neil Lennon will get less to spend this summer, with Lawwell vowing to splash the cash.

He said: “Value is what we go with. If it’s a Bosman, if it’s £900k or £1m, £3m, £4m or £5m, then we’ll go for it.

“Our whole transfer policy is centred around value. It’s not cost. It’s value.

“If we think there is a player at a particular price we think offers value, we will look.

“Marquee signings? They are on £50k, £60k, £70k per week. That’s not there for us.”

Lawwell revealed Celtic have compiled a list of summer targets — but no bids have yet been made.

He also expects some players to depart — with Victor Wanyama attracting interest — but insists Lennon’s squad won’t be ripped apart, with Champions League qualifiers just 11 weeks away.

He said: “We have a lot of options, but we’re not advanced with anything.

“But we’re prepared. Neil knows what he wants, the positions he wants and we have options for each of those.

“Neil is excited by the whole thing. Some people are going to go and some are going to come in.

“That in itself is an injection of something new and a challenge.

    “These won’t be material changes.

Perhaps two or three will leave, and others from the fringes.

“But stability is so vital and I don’t see wholesale changes by any manner of means.

“We have the core of the team. The ideal situation is having all of your business done in advance of European qualifiers.

“Ideally, you have a stable squad and stable team going into the first qualifier.

“That looks unlikely the way the market goes. What it may mean is the players who end up leaving may still be with you for the qualifiers.”

Lawwell hopes the prospect of Champions League football will prove a huge lure for potential signings.

He added: “It’s impossible to get Celtic across to a player when they arrive — there is an X factor you can’t explain.

“When they have been here for six months, they get it. When they go away, they tend to say ‘I didn’t know what I had at Celtic’.

“We have made the Champions League group stage in seven out of 11 years and had three last-16 runs “We say ‘Come here, develop as a player, you have a stage with Champions League or Europa League to go and express yourself and develop. If you want to stay, fantastic. If someone comes for you and you want to move on, then good luck to you’.

“That’s been the sell. Playing for Celtic No1, then Champions League and develop at the highest level.”

  19. Morning from a slightly overcast but Champion day in the Chilterns…

Interesting game last night, Barca not at the races, Pique looks an overrated player without Puyol and stop Messi stop Barca seems the way.

Since Lenny showed the way Barca’s CL performances have dimminished.

Still don’t understand they took so long to put David Villa on and Cesc Fabregas was left out.

Got to say if Barca had Ronaldo things would have been different, the most complete player you’re likely to see.

The waterlogged midfield was a master stroke and Barca had the look of a Prima Donna about them from the word go

IMO we don’t see games like that very often.

    Good morning CQNers,

Two topics I hope Celtic are pursuing with Stewart Regan, Campbell Ogilvie and the SFA –

    1. Sevco’s licensing conditions.

    2. The length of the grass at Hampden for the cup final. It was too long in the semi and inhibited our passing game.

    Squire Danaher,

Bayern benefited from an over-watered pitch, a couple of dodgy goals and a referee who allowed the Bayern players a latitude with robust tackles not usually seen in Europe.

But yes I agree, Barcelona have lost their Mojo.
