Celtic 0-0 Hibernian

1111

Celtic surrendered another two points to fall further behind in the championship race, drawing 0-0 at home against Hibernian.  It was a unorganised looking performance from the home team who gave Graham Stack little to do in the Hibernian goal.

Gary Hooper squandered Celtic’s only gilt-edged chance of the game when, after playing a one-two with Anthony Stokes, he struck the outside of the post with Ki available for the square pass.  Anthony Stokes had earlier tested Stack, who failed to hold the ball but did enough to clear.

When the same teams met on Wednesday James Forrest transformed the game when he drifted inside but he spent most of today’s game adrift on the right wing.  On two occasions he cut inside with purpose, once testing Stack with a blistering shot from 22 yards and later when a 25 yard pile-drive struck the crossbar, but Hibs were content to limit Celtic to such speculative efforts.

Neil Lennon was justified in his criticism of his front pairing of Stokes and Hooper today but Celtic were equally clueless in midfield.  There appeared to be no cohesion and there was certainly not a productive match plan.

Motherwell’s away win in Inverness gives the Lanarkshire side a three point lead, having played a game more, going into next week’s crucial game against Celtic at Fir Park.  Manager-less St Johnstone dropped three points at home this afternoon, leaving them four points behind Celtic in the fight for the last Europa League place.

This is where we are people, scrapping between Motherwell and St Johnstone. Get used to it.

“What you get for your £10 is open to discussion – do you decide on sponsors, strip design, TV rights, chairman, stadium naming rights…? Any of which would be more than we get now. And what about accountability, how to enshrine that?”

All that stuff is … fluff. It’s ephemera. It creates the Celtic equivalent of “Britain’s Got Talent.”

No “membership” scheme is viable unless we get something for our money, a real say in the running of the club, and it doesn’t matter if we’re getting charged £5 or £5000.

There HAS to be a something concrete at the end of the line. Votes. An equal vote for all. One man, one share, one vote. No vested interests, no rigged game, no crooked deck. Fair, transparent, open and above board.

A board of directors elected by the mass of ordinary shareholders. With a plan voted on every year by every fan. Not a small group of people making the key decisions with 85% of the total vote between them. An elected chairman, on a democratic model. A CEO hired with a very specific brief, who’s job is open to annual shareholder review.

Not too much to ask. Not difficult to deliver. Something we would support. Something we would fund, and would take us far down the road to becoming the club we are supposed to be … a community club, a family where everyone is heard, a club which leaves no-one behind … not an exclusive talking shop where money buys you rights.

In my fifty quid senario, some folk would still be left behind, but most could be represented.

    Not quite communism.

Anyway, at this point the shares are not worth all that much, a wealthy fan could bring it about, and then be paid back through a successful membership scheme.

Then we run on an election basis, like Barca.

  3. JF, auldheid

again for clarity, what I would want for my £x member ship is voting rights, not consultative rights. I would want to decide, not be heard. The scope of decisions could be up for debate.

For example. Juan Laporta was elected by the Barca socios but he and the Barca board “sold the jerseys” to UNICEF and then to the Qatar Foundation last year, in the face of fans opposition, which persists.

    no and yes.

It’s not fluff and ephemera if we define what we get for our membership. As we have both said, One man, one share, one vote. As you propose, an elected board. The discussion is here, now we need to make it happen. How can we persuade DD to feck off.

    This time, good night!!!

Yeah I’m with you all the way … and no, not quite Communism, but mate, speaking for me, even if I could not afford the outlay myself I would have complete faith that guys like you, like Auldheid (yes indeedy), Paul67 and others were speaking for me, were voting for something real, something tangible, were basing their decisions on a shared vision and on a shared direction, carefully laid out beforehand, a plan of some sort, being talked about in an open way … and not the last-minute-double-dealing, closed-door arrangements we get now.

Above all, I would know my fellow fans would hold the decision makers to account. I would trust that too.

Guys, the Greatness of CQN is in nights like tonight. Genuine discussion, REAL discussion, about our future, and not gazing across the city and focussing on them when we have our own issues, in abundance.

Brilliant talking to all of you. A fantastic debate, hopefully one of many to come on our future.

Tonight has, if not restored the faith in the team, certainly restored my faith a bit in the fans. Barely a mention of that cheating, tax dodging, soon to be dead instutition (as someone brilliantly put some weeks ago “think Carstairs, with marble staircases”) we consider our rivals if not our equals.

More like it friends. Much more like it.

Your a Genius in the making but, i’m afraid that i think things will have to get a lot worse before the majority of, Celtic fans of today, most of whom probably werent even born during the last uprising against the board when, Brian Dempsey stood on the steps outside the front door of CP and announced, “the game is over, the Rebels have won!”

If the huns get to 4 iar then, i think the amount of empty seats at CP will be self explanetory!

Don’t shoot the messanger but, i think we’ll take an awful lot of medicine before we can feel like Celtic Football Club once again! IMO!

  7. The only way you can change things is get as many supporters as possible to raise £45M and chase DD and cronies out of town and run the club on a Barca model. I’m guessing thats the bricks and mortar value of Celtic PLC

For the record AGAIN-DD has never put a penny, punt, euro or anything else into Celtic PLC that does not continually yield a dividend or is not secured via debentures, loans or other financial instruments on the clubs tangible assets. Its a fact but do your own research.

It doesn’t matter how much we put into the PLC because all the preferential shareholders will get larger dividends and PL will get increased performance bonuses-the team is always the loser.

THE BUSINESS MODEL IS NOT WORKING

    Morning from Dubai.

Just read comments attributed to Neil Lennon. He is angry, he is going to out the poor performing players – actually he outed the front pair.

Neil Lennon is clueless when it comes to motivating players. How many times have we heard ‘ he is angry’ since Ross County – the speech worked then but it is an old boring pitiful statement now.

I felt sorry for him last season but he is leading a charmed life this one. The press are not calling for his head? Why? Many a better manager has had pelters before him.

I hope so much we change staff this week because this really is last last chance saloon.

Rangers are a strong consistent unit we under Lenny are the opposite. We can’t drop any more points – Jesus – it is only October and Im saying that!

The Celtic board have placed themselves in the, last-chance saloon by giving Neil Lennon the managers job!

If Neil fails then, i think that the fans will then waken up to the fact that, Celtic Football club has to be restructured!

    Hail! Hail!

Kevin – yes I agree with that. Cheap high risk option was taken and seems nobody at board level wants to admit we are constantly failing at many levels. HH

A phrase that i think sums up the, Celtic dilema of today goes like this….

“Sack The Board NOW or, We’ll Pass The huns On The Way Down!!!”

  17. God watching the rerun on setanta

86 mins gone and it’s like watching paint dry

    Nooooooo goalscorers

  18. Ok just watched entire 90mins again only forest deserves to be in team

    The rest.

7 years ago we only needed one player to improve

Then every season after another one

We ignored that, now we need 8 or 9.

Not the fans fault , but the board for not having small investment every year one one quality player

So either board finds money. Or ship out

You extrapolate well what we must do as a support: look dispassionately at the performance of Neil Lennon and his coaching team.

    They are failures.

I would go much further though. What the hell is going on that a CEO can continue in his job when we have financially been thee only team in town, and we manage to lose 4 leagues? (believe me it will be at least four)

  20. Slan_Abhaile........BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE on

The arrogance of the CEO and the Chairman at the AGM is intolerable.

    Lies lies lies.

Just like the poisonous scum sucking CEO of Qantas, Alan Joyce.

  21. Slan_Abhaile........BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE on

On second thoughts, apologies to Lawwell and Reid: no one is as bad as Joyce.

  22. Slan. I think you will find that most Aussies support the CEO if qantas

Qantas baggage handlers are the highest paid in the business average 12% more than virgin

Thus us the reason that airfares are so expensive here

If baggage handlers in uk were paid the same, you would not get any change out if 200 pounds on a return flight to London with any airline

Qantas staff have had their noses in the trough for years, denying people the right to fly here in Oz

    Sack the lot if them

I hope you wiped your mouth after that last post.

CEO of Qantas gets $5m a year pay deal two days ago, knowing he was going to ground Qantas.

    Why?

Because Qantas workers want a pay rise that will keep them in line with the price of inflation.

The CEO gets a 71% pay rise during a dispute.

    Shocking and shameful.

Qantas workers have averaged around 1 hour of stop work meetings per month. I repeat 1 hour per month.

And Qantas have stonewalled through every ‘meeting’ with the Unions.

the pilots total amount of Industrial action was to wear a red tie. Thats it. A read tie.

And you support ‘sacking them all’.

I have no words that can express my anger that you call yourself a Celtic supporter.

    End of correspondence.

  24. Slan if michael olearly was in charge of qantas he would have done it years ago

They get paid 12% more than virgin staff and they are the reason I can’t get a cheap flight anywhere in OZ

I don’t see other bhoys complaining with their 10pound flight in Europe

Lucky them, we can’t do it here as qantas staff are highest paid in the industry

Just ask all those poor backpackers leaving central station in Sydney on buses to Melbourne (14hrs) if they want cheap flights like Europe

    Sack them all

  25. Morning

kids up early, can’t get back for a lie in, woke up thinking some of our players can play or would do in the right team. Also feeling despondent, yet another period of change ahead. We have fupped up beyond all imagination since wgs’ last season. We are an utter shambles of a team, yet after the Aberdeen match, I went into the superstore and it was fupping packed ! A celt who lives down the road went to the Rennes game and said there thousands at it and about a thousand from Jersey. You have to hand it to the season ticket holders, away game goers, euro away game fans, sweet jesus on the current performance the people who run the club don’t deserve the fans they’ve got. I’ve been thinking it for a while but I reckon the gb has bought PL some extra time. Without them changing what it means to go to CP, there would have been more anger !

  26. Slan_Abhaile........BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE on

To those ‘people’ who think that it is an argument to say that ‘x’ workers get paid more than 12% than another company, and that means they should not get a pay rise let me say this.

It is exactly that kind of management right wing tory speak that allows the worker to grovel for pay and conditions whilst these tossers give themselves $5,000,000 wages per annum.

So let us consider the alternative 9from this far right economic fascist thinking)

Why don’t we drop the wage to the same wage as the Virgin workers? Oh thats a good idea. Once we have achieved that, lets see who else is paid lower and we will drop the wage even further.

When we have run out of Australian companies to use as ideals to lower the conditions of staff, then we will look to low cost third world companies in the Pacific region.

Oh, stop……. they are doing this already, that was always their plan.

I’m no Aussie, but by god, I’m behind every worker.

  27. Slan. To those people who think that everyone should get paid a million dollars, then that is just plain stupid

Your argument means no Ryan air , no easy jet and back to the bad old days in uk where you had to get a bank loan out to fly ba

    I am no Tory

Ps did you ever read animal farm

  28. I wonder how Steven Naismith is feeling this morning. When the huns go into administration next month he will be immediately jettisoned by them. No club will take a punt on a player who has just had a cruciate knee injury that kept him out for a year. He will now I suppose have to get himself fit and prove himself to a new employer in the meantime I hope he has adequate insurance cover.
