Celtic 1-0 St Johnstone

352

The champions stretched some of the limbs from their squad against St Johnstone tonight as a first half Anthony Stokes goal secured the points.  It was one of those rare, balmy, Celtic Park occasions when three or four layers of clothing were sufficient, not the customary seven or eight.

Highlight for the evening was the standing ovation for captain-for-the-night, Mark Wilson.  A 22-year-old Wilson joined Celtic over six years ago and provided us with some great memories, most notably his Scottish Cup-tie winning goal against Rangers last season, but his career has been blighted by injury since late 2006, robbing him of hundreds of appearances for the team he has supported all his life.

Moh Bangura had a rare 90 minutes and was unfortunate not to open his Celtic scoring account.  Anthony Stokes played a drear cross-field pass to Bangura, who was some 40 yards away.  The striker from Sierra Leone had options but made space for a shot which rebounded back off the post.

Bangura has a hand in Stokes earlier goal.  He got a touch on a 28th minute corner pushing the ball to Stokes who finished clinically.

Thereafter the outcome was never in doubt, although Celtic were seldom clinical.  21-year-old Nigerian Rabiu Ibrahim made his Celtic on 74 minutes when he replaced Kris Commons and looked comfortable on the ball.

Ibriham looked a lively wee character when he came on. But one must ask what the hell was Hooper think abt tappin the ball in when he was clearly offside. Hope he apologised to him.

  2. Philvis – I returned your white feather. We’re even!

Neil R – excellent post but one thing still rankles. Craig Whyte, owner.

As far as I can see he still holds the aces. Not enough due consideration as his current position demands. (nor Ticketus)

Administrators have ignored him and IMO do so at their peril!

Labour runnin RIOT down south!! Hope it spreads up the way!!

  6. Just watched ATs interview with one of Duff & Duffer pitchside at Ibrox

    explaining the little tax dodge.

How BillyBob is going to move all the good assets to a Newco and keep all those nasty bad debts in the Oldco.

Could someone correct me if I’m wrong here.

The idea is to sell the assets and the proceeds then go to the Oldco, who

then have some funds to offer a cva if acceptable or to liquidate.

I take it Duff & Duffer are in charge of the sale.

Now BillyBob is putting up circa £11m and we know the debts

    are around £134m

But how much are the assets really worth.

I would guess that the playing squad alone is worth more than £11m

and God only knows how much the real estate is worth.

If D&D sell the assets on the cheap, are they not in fact shafting

the very creditors, whose interests, they have been appointed to

    protect

Is their primary duty of care to the business or to the creditors

    Neilr,

Very kind of you to grace the blog you found your voice, with your second hand offerings.

It’s a pitty it is still in moderation, anything else your ego can’t wait to be published ?

We’ve been here a long time, obviously you have little respect for this blog when it’s your last resort for publication, yer stuff is good, pitty you crave the acceptance of the latest slapper on the web.

  8. I remember the van stuttering to a halt on the M6 on a dark November night in 1998. The motorway was plagued by roadworks with the third lane closed to traffic. All sorts of resurfacing vehicles and portacabins littered the central reservation. I peered through the wet windscreen and spotted a light. The window wiper revealed an old caravan. A rusty blue towtruck parked beside the humble abode. The caravan door swung open – “Ya need some help there y’all?” screamed a large man resembling the head of a failed Nascar competitor. I anxiously turned the key in the ignition. The engine revved !! “You’ll never catch us!” I shouted at the man, both he and his truck condemned to the third lane forever…

Can we do a Rangers in reverse?

Start a Newco- buy heaps of unaffordable player, take loans , avoid tax … Then transfer all assets to Celtic … Before closing Newco?!

  10. Celtic40me – when you pick up – yes forgot about my very poor betting ability and I am once again delighted to be wrong. Please pick your charity and I will contribute – was it our usual £50?

Kojo – I absolutely disagree with the Celtic silence stance – time they influenced…..

  11. Just watched game on Alba and have to say I was quite impressed by Bangura and young Ibrahim.

On the other hand I thought Kelvin Wilson and Wanyama were dreadfull.

NeilR was a regular on this blog long, long before you ever thought of gracing us with your presence.

Too much sun for you, me lad.

Thinking Wilson is having problems performing in front of a big audience, however, this is his first season, and I’ve yet to condemn a player for first season jitters.

  14. Canamalar – NeilR was indeed a very regular contributor in the early days. He and I crossed sword (at times pretty badly) way back in the day. I often disagreed with him but he is a good guy.

  15. Hi canamalar, sorry you’re feeling jilted, I know how that feels! I don’t think it’s right to call RTC a slapper though, if I ever get to meet her I bet she’ll turn out to be a very nice girl.

My contributions to the Rangers debate tend towards the technical and nerdy, for which RTC usually seems to me the most appropriate forum. My normal assumption is that if anyone wants that sort of input they’ll gravitate to RTC anyway and see it there.

I’ve seen quite a few double-posts from others on RTC and CQN and thought it would be OK to do it myself in this instance – but if the consensus is that I shouldn’t do it, I won’t.

  16. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

And I’ll tell you what, the glory rtc has been getting is on the back of this blog, god knows I’ve got my differences with paul67, but every time I see the clowns on that blog telling the world rtc is responsible for enlightening the world to the corruption in Scottish sport, sickens me.

Love or loathe him, paul67 is responsible for opening all their wounds, rtc rides high on the back of this blog, but I’ve yet to see him acknowledge that.

  17. Hi NA, long time no virtual handbags.

You do have a point; my obstinate defence of the board’s financial prudence and unwillingness to ‘speculate to accumulate’ is looking pretty silly these days – live and learn eh? :-)

I’d say more but I’ve an 0600 alarm and haven’t started packing yet. Will look in again tonight before bedtime though – whenever that is….

  18. Canamalar – I am extremely proud of both blogs. They have blown away the MSM and led the way in investigative journalism. Its not a choice between either – I’m just delighted both exist…………

NeilR – always good to read your posts. Do you think Celtic should make their position public?

  19. jude2005 is Neil Lennon \o/ on

Just watched the Thai Tims. Absolutley fantastic!!! Hope they bring out a DVD. Hope young Reamon was lookin down from above and was proud as punch with all those kids and their helpers!!

  20. NeilR – I just know you arent being sarcy :) – I keep telling folk we dont need to be at the opposite side of the see -saw from Rangers – moderate ambition is surely a virtue?

  21. canamalar@00:41, Paul’s niche in Celtic history is already assured, and he continues to blaze a trail for the rest of us. I think you’re being more than a bit unkind to both RTC (and the “clowns” who post there) though – I reckon there’s plenty of space for both of them on the pedestal.

I’ve just watched it as well and I was really impressed with Sammi’s Gaelic. I understood every word.

    NeilR,

As you know my point is and was, you never had any problems making your points prior to rtc’s existence, regardless, of how dry or technical you thought they might be.

The fact that yourself and quite a few others prefer to make your points to what you consider a better audience is what sticks in the craw, Paul67 I have no doubt has absolutely no problem with that, my issue is, I’ve watched rtc pick up all the plaudits for a campaign paul67 started and forced. Just a bit disappointed so many here actually forget where it all started.

Maybe one day when rtc chucks it, you’ll again make original points on the blog that gave you your voice.

Yer right, jilted is exactly what I feel, always enjoyed your posts, except when I was the butt, but you’ve found a higher place, sorry I wasn’t good enough be your target audience.

Well, after a long wait i at last got te see Ibrahim in action and i wasn’t disappointed.I like players who look hungry to be involved and right from coming on he was in the thick of the play.He also looks to have good balance and sound touch.Overall a satisfying debut from the lhad.

    I was reading a Q & A session and, on the subject of history, one answer ended with the following;

There are concerns that someone may challenge the history issue if a sale to a newco happens. The questions I would ask is, who would have a right to challenge it, where would the jurisdiction lie, where is the legal framework that would allow a challenge?

I hadn’t considered these thoughts about Rangers, but I can see the point being made here. However, to me they would be finished and I’m a real sensible bloke.

Oh and I consider this blog far bigger than a niche.

  29. Canamalar, I’ve no interest in an argument with you, but please don’t put words in my mouth. There is no ‘better audience’ than CQN.

You’re entitled to your opinion about me, or at least what I write (and where I write it). In my turn, I’m entitled to write what, where and when I please. Can we call it quits at that?
