Kilmarnock substitute Danny Racchi scored with a thunderous striker after 87 minutes to turn an otherwise pedestrian Celtic victory into a late drama. Georgios Samaras scored a goal either side of half time to give Celtic the platform to secure a victory which moved them to within a point of the top of the table.
Victor Wanyama played in central defence, which left his midfield partner, Beram Kayal, bereft of a solid accomplice in midfield. As a result, Kilmarnock found it easy to run through the Celtic midfield with Paul Heffernan and Dean Shiels causing problems.
Neil Lennon must have been wondering what he would need to do to spark Celtic into action after the break when Cha Du-Ri sprung clear on the right and threw in a high cross which Samaras attacked six yards out and headed into the net in first half stoppage time.
8 minutes after the break Samaras made it 2-0. Gary Hooper collected a through ball on the right and knocked it into the Greek’s path. Samaras looked to have lost the ball, which was caught between his feet, but he recovered, evaded some flaying defenders and cracked a left foot shot into the net from the edge of the area.
Kilmarnock looked well out of the game until Racchi’s late intervention but after they pulled a goal back Celtic looked rattled. Celtic scarcely held possession for the remaining minutes and hardly put two passes together in three minutes added time. Fraser Forster was forced off his line to challenge Heffernan with seconds remaining. The keeper did well to block but the ball broke free to Dayton who failed to convert an excellent change to equalise.

One wee gripe on a great day – how many times does Psul need to ask for the link creator to be used in order to prevent the messing up of the page width?
My guess is 154,689,034.
Well, fresh from my hangover bed (thanks guys for last night!), and onto CQN for a wee check about at the mood today … and people are buzzing! Marvellous!
Great results. I watched the Rangers game today in disbelief at how bad they are. Young McGowan ran them ragged. I thought that bhoy had a future in the game and I was right. Tremendous display.
Thanks to the guys who have posted FF thread information. Keep it coming.
Merry Xmas one and all. I’ll be on again later, but I wanted to say that last year I lost my gran on Xmas Day and I was not looking forward to 2011.
It has been a triumph in every way. A triumph.
Now, if it can end on the right note, as it started, with us handing the Huns a skelping ….
Oh joy! Bring on 2012!

they have a habit of signing pure cowardly thugs – like Hurlock not real men but sneaky, comic strip hard men
Celtic had the likes of Bertie Auld, a HARD man who could walk the walk and talk the talk
apparently young Jackie Mac is a hard man and not of the comic strip variety as well?
was it in chris Sutton’s book?
Things really are going our way. Delighted listening to “them” calling for Joker’s head, what a bunch.
Have to be honest and say that Celtic weren’t too impressive. We don’t have a real attacking threat in the middle of the park. Nor do the flanks deliver enough. In fairness Cha did in the 45th minute but until that I thought it was too slow and ponderous.
Brown has to be made into that middfield threat, neither Wanyama or Kayal have the instinct to drive forward.
Emilio back will deliver pace and the ability to hurt teams on that flank.
Samaras held a more central striking position for longer periods today, makes all the difference. He simply must be told to get in the box more. His confidence will soar as he adds to his tally.
Thought Wanyama was a real stand-out, again.
Wot! No pics of a florid-faced snarling Alllllllisdhhhhhair?

All the best to you,I do not think oor James ,takes a telling from
no one.
Good on him.
Mikeybhoy
Well. All the real Celtic fans celebrated but there was a considerable number who looked stunned and shocked as they almost have nothing to complain about because
a) we are now only a point behind Rangers
and
b) Sammy is playing well
and
c) Neil has the team pointing and moving in the right direction towards being a real decent side.
In fact I get more pleasure out of the doom and moaners misery within the Celtic support as I do from seeing the Huns starting to panic.
Not so long ago some were booing Sammy onto the park in a home Euro tie. I hope they are holding their heads in shame. Please Sammy. Keep it up ya big Greek God.
VP
All the best to you as well mate..
Was u out on the lash the day

Sammy has been something different over the last few weeks….. long may it continue and i will take him scoring another double on Wednesday night….

I wont be renewing the 4 tickets i have, i thought this year would be a good season.
When we were making 2 million bids here and there (biggest con yet )
then we sign all these squibs .
I cant take anymore of this rubbish ,the worst team ive seen in 50 years

Re: wont be renewing season ticket
See the people posting he won’t be missed? Who’s going to buy these tickets? You’re better off going shopping than watching Rangers.

Re: McCoist – out his depth?
yes totally out of his depth and we are lucky celtic had such a poor start to the season

Re: McCoist – out his depth?
well he will be out of a job at the end of the season
no europe, no lc, no league, terrible football, he could win the sc however but he should be out of a job

_________he doesnt have a ****ing clue_

He’s rapidly becoming a joke figure.
ANY sort of ‘win’ in HMRC case and he’ll be gone.

So far out his depth it is actually scary.

your going to do that why not start at Murray Park. Who is the dead wood? Everyone says Fleck on here what about the others on the Rangers bench? Can Someone PLEASE tell me what Jimmy Bell who is a Parks of Hamilton bus driver doing on the training pitch or on our bench. Don’t bother telling me he is the kit manager. Dead wood get rid of now
___________________________________________
Getting rid of jimmy bell how would that improve results ?

Jelavic is cheating us
He has been very poor this season and clearly wants away. The continual throwing himself to the ground when he knows he won’t get a free kick does my head in. He seems to be immune from criticism on this board but for me he is a very talented player with a very poor attitude.
JackieMac senior was pretty tough as well.

Brilliant just brilliant
Can Neil Lennon appeal Elbows red card if McMoist decides not to?

Football is all about opinions.
I have always liked Brown contrary to most of my fellow Tim’s.
Can’t stand Ki again contrary to others.
Booing is unhelpful but fans get frustrated so emotions play a big part.

Yip, Sami has and was. But whether he’s wide or centre, his tendency is to lie to deep hoping for the ball to be played back to him. Too often these positions are non-goalscoring, or will mean having to beat a player to have the strike. I want the big guy using his speed and sharpness to get in striking positions. He did it with the header today, but reverted to the “periphery” position today, with the second. Fair enough he got the goal, but on another day the tackle would have been made or the ball would have ran away from him, and both he and us would have been frustrated.
Remember he had that amazing period under WGS, he can deliver a barrowload of goals, but not when he is allowed to hold back on the periphery.
Merry christmas to all the bhoys and ghirls on CQN .
Well we got a wee present from santa today (admit it how many of you secrectly asked for it
We are all kids at heart .hail hail .
How will Sally deal with real pressure ,they seem to have used all there get out of free cards today .
Did goijan get sent off for last man ,just a wee theory of mine
Kenny Sheils reckons Celtic’s first goal shouldn’t have stood as the ref had gone over the one minute of added time……………WHIT?
Tell your team to play to thr whistle next time Kenny. That remark is almost daft enough to take the “tube of the day” award away from Allyster(but not quite)

Evening All,
Try not to laugh…….
Manager Ally McCoist said there is a “distinct possibility” that Rangers will contest the red card shown to Lee McCulloch in the 2-1 loss at St Mirren.
The midfielder was dismissed for aiming an elbow at Graham Carey.
McCulloch – and Dorin Goian who picked up two yellow cards against Saints – are both set to miss Wednesday’s crucial Old Firm derby at Celtic Park.
“We will have a look at it again and decide whether we are going to appeal,” revealed McCoist.
“I’ll have a chat with Lee but it’s a distinct possibility.”
The match started well for the Scottish Premier League leaders when Lee Wallace opened his goalscoring account for the club after 11 minutes.
But McCulloch was sent off by referee Steven McLean when jostling in the penalty area at a free kick and St Mirren hit back with goals from Aaron Mooy and Paul McGowan late in the first half.
And McCoist thought the red card was pivotal to the outcome of the match.
“There is no doubt it changed the game,” he said. “The ball actually went into the back of the net as well, which a lot of people maybe forget, so it might have been 2-0.
“I’ve seen it once and I would have to say it was extremely harsh.
“I’ve had a good chat with Lee McCulloch and he assures me there was no malice at all and he was just trying to fend the boy off. The boy actually had an arm around his waist.
“I’m a wee bit disappointed with how the boy went down to be honest with you and no physio came on to my knowledge.
“It changed the game, there is no doubt about it, and we are disappointed with it.”
Goian was booked for a tug on Gary Teale’s jersey and earnt a second caution for doing the same thing to Kenny McLean late in the game.
Asked if he was annoyed by that red card, McCoist said: “Yes I am, but that’s just the referee to be fair. The referee will tell you technically he is right and that’s it.
“There is nothing I can say on it anymore other than he probably could have stayed on the park.”
