Is that the time?  Many thanks to everyone who submitted questions for the Club to answer at the Forum this evening.  CQN submitted six pages of questions along with many other groups, from which an agenda has been prepared (below):

Stadium Atmosphere and Matchday Policy:

What is the current position in respect of the Green Brigade?

Do the Club believe their response to Motherwell was justified and proportionate?

Stewarding at home matches is heavy handed in certain sections of the Stadium e.g. Block 122 and Blocks 110, 111 & 112, is there a reason for this?

The presence of FoCUS at home matches is intimidating and antagonises supporters, is it necessary to have them and if so can they be located in an area which is less intrusive?

Can the Club introduce a code of conduct which all Stewards need to sign up to?

Attending matches is expensive, what are the Club’s plans on ticket pricing?

Safe Standing has been regularly discussed, what is the current position?

The Coach Park has been relocated to an area which is unsuitable for the majority of fans who use it, what is the longer term plan?

The Kerrydale Bar has been a welcome addition to matchday are there plans for another?

What are the Club’s thoughts on the current location of the Family Section?

Stadium Catering has long since been considered over-priced and sub-standard, what is the current position in terms of offering an improved service?

Many fans feel their support is taken for granted, would the Club consider adding value by recognising long-term support for 5, 10, 15 years’ Season Ticket purchase by offering upgrades to Premium or Corporate for a day?

With so many empty seats on match day at present can the Club not allocate these to good causes, school and youth groups and community projects?

PR & Communication:

There is a perception that the Club are quick to criticise our fans but slow to praise them, what’s the Club’s view?

Why is the Club not more vocal when our Manager, Players and Fans are attacked in the media?

The Club is seen to be slow to react to key issues through the media, why is this?

The Club has stated its opposition to the OBTC Act but there is a sense that it has to do more in support of the fans who are affected by this, will the Club take a more vocal position?

Is this meeting a recognition from the Club that a gap exists between the Club and the fans?

The Club are often considered to be on the back foot in terms of PR, is there recognition of this from within and is there a plan to drive the PR strategy by producing more positive stories?

Would the Club consider the introduction of a weekly phone-in show to combat existing shows which often provide misinformation or unrealistic comparisons from unqualified sources?

Supporter Specific Issues:

Given the level of demand which exists, would the Club consider adding to to the excellent new disabled supporters’ facility or creating something similar in another part of the stadium?

Fixture re-scheduling at short notice is costing supporters money and ultimately driving fans away, can the Club seek an agreement with all other Clubs that a minimum notice period is put in place?

Would the Club consider a floating credits scheme for fans outside Scotland to mitigate losses when matches are rescheduled?

Murrayfield – what is the plan relative to transportation and kick-off times, also Edinburgh cannot be accessed in a 24-hr trip by Irish supporters, can this be reflected in their Season Ticket offering?

At present away, neutral and European match ticket allocations are based on attendance of matches at each of the defined categories.  Would the Club consider a scheme where all matches are taken into account including attendance at home matches as this would encourage more fans to attend home games?

For European match ticket allocation there is no stated policy at present, this leads to confusion as fans don’t always know when they will receive an offer or if it’s first come first served, this needs to be made clear by way of a stated policy which allows for clarity and gives supporters a defined process.

I always read the forum of the team a few days before and after we play them. Hearts are a particularly unsavoury mob.

I actually have a few very good mates who are jambos and they are brand new but I get the feeling they turn into a rabid mob when they get together and Celtic come to town.

Sat in the ain stand alone once when I was 16 at Tynecastle. Have sat in the main stand of most clubs in Scotland and never had much hassle. I was subjected to abuse from the minute I arrived by an old geezer with a rug over his legs. Some disgraceful stuff and because it caused a bit of a rumpus a steward appeared. The old bloke wanted me out. I had no colours on and could have got in the ground for a concession but I had a part time job and wanted to watch the game and it wasn;t televised so thought the centre main stand would be fine. The steward asked me to leave. This was before the game had even started. I refused and there was a sort of stand off. To their credit a couple of Hearts fans around me backed me up and said he is a young lad here to watch the game. When Jorge Cadette scored the winner from a cracking header my heart sank. More abuse and the same steward back. Only one old bloke abusing me. I never even moved from my seat. One guy in his 30’s gave the auld guy a real torrent of abuse and escorted me out the stadium at full time. He shook my hand wished me all the best and headed for the pub. They are not all cretins but they have a real nasty element. I will never forget the contorted face of that auld guy. He looked like a real pillar of society. Probably in a high paying job. What came out of his mouth would get you the jail these days. I don;t think I would last 5 mins these days I would have walked but back then I was not going to miss a match. A horrible situation and I think the 2nd last time I bought a ticket for a home end. The last was Tannadice and that was a whole lot better but you can’t enjoy the game. Gave it a miss without a Celtic ticket after that.

So this is where Salary McCoist pulled the 30m pound figure from. So they liquidate pass it over to King and the Blue Knights. Market it to the gullible as a 30m pound cash injection. No relegation. 15 point fine.

    A few points..

One of the reasons The Road Shows of a couple of years ago was not followed up on was a lack of capacity within Celtic to fit it them in after initial crisis, mainly because the CEO and Manager had other things to do.

That capacity now exists in the SLO and this is his attempt at providing supporters with a regular conduit to air concerns and address issues. He and his initiative deserves a chance to see how it works.

The Open Meetings are limited to those who can actually attend and because of that they will always be seen as not covering the wider support. The forum goes some way to at least reducing that point.

At the first Open Meeting the point was made about how do the issues raised get actioned and followed up? This arrangement addresses that to a degree in that action will have to be reported back at subsequent meetings and the message will need to be consistently true.

As you can see from Paul’s blog all the questions or comments posted on CQN were picked up and passed on and whilst CQN does not speak for the support at large, no group can make that claim.

When the ability to gauge folks feelings via social media is there, in fact probably drives those feelings at times, it surely makes sense to use all available avenues to gauge them, but only one avenue to address them in a consistent manner?:

All roads lead to Rome but in Rome it is the forum that decide what is to be done.

Every year the CST put forward a resolution about given the support a say and every year Celtic say they are doing that with lists of many meetings with groups to support their case.

I have not accepted that because if it really worked there would be no need to repeat the resolution every year and the consequences of the existing arrangement would be a more harmonious relationship.

There clearly is not, so why not try a different approach that tries to cover all the bases in a consistent manner?

I think there will be areas that need worked on. I volunteered to Paul to try and capture all the points and feed them back in a structured way and in fact one of your posts stuck out as representative of lots of views, but it took bloody ages to gather and collate and a better mechanism to gather, categorise and analyse views is going to be needed to make it work for all the support.

In the interests of transparency anyone can read what was gathered and passed on at the following links with apologies for any issue I missed (fixtures being changed at short notice may have been one but it is covered anyway)

Many of the questions are good and relevant, but there’s also a sense of – “Why can’t we get into the games for free, ban all media and offer the fans top quality haute cuisine and fine wines as part of the (non-existent) ticket price?” – about a few of them.

Why not? Only a fortnight ago, PL was bumming that things were never brighter off the park.

    Supporters are not staff.

They are not just supporters, they are also paying customers who will stop paying if they are not happy with how they are treated and it is high time Celtic started to realise that failure to recognise legitimate complaints or suggestions from their supporters on how to address them is bad for business.

For example looking at the short notice of fixture change impact on far travelled fans I lobbed in a suggestion that might help reduce its impact. There will be overheads to it which might negate the value of the suggestion, but that is up to Celtic to decide.

There is a HUGE resource of experience and skills out there for Celtic to draw on, much of it for nothing, in fact if you stand back and look at it dispassionately (and I ken the Celtic penchant for thinking with the heart) all the groups, CST, CSA, CQN, Kano Foundation, Graves Society etc etc deliver a largely unpaid SERVICE to each other in the Celtic support.

Now I am not suggesting these services should be monetised for that would eradicate their intrinsic value, but if they were all seen in that light by each other and Celtic, then instead of taking care of their own patches of turf and by cooperating from Board down, then the whole would most definitely be greater than the sum of the parts (in my opinion of course.)

All of this requires a change of attitude on all sides for it to work, which is all I make judgements on.

Does it work or doesn’t it?

can you ask at the Forum about a statement of intent on our ambition,

Any feasability studies done into the status quo? ie we remain here.

running a model suggesting its new club

Where are we going to be in 5/10 years?etc

I feel it saps energy as no longer can/will we build a team round a player as he is transferred thus tiring us as fans as we have to reset our ambition annually.I know the Epl is next door with all its financial craziness but i would argue a sustained and ambitious youth development programme backed with CL success would lighten the feeling of bein a shop window for others and encourage other players to want to come here.

    =================

Funny, kind of ties in with a thought I had the other day.

Looking at Wanyama, Hooper and Ledley, all vital first team players, if we could have kept at least 2 of them it would have sent out a powerful message about Celtic AND Scottish football.

We could well have afforded to keep all 3, but I accept the Wanyama deal was too good to turn down.

Hooper and Ledley should have been offered terms on a par with Brown. Maybe they were, but I don’t think so. Even if they were, push the boat a little for them – they have put in performances for us on the big stage.

Continually losing your top performers is a contributing factor to the empty seats.

I am even more convinced we should have kept Hooper and Ledley in the knowledge that we have two more Wanyamas, in Forster and Van Dijk, in the pipeline. Be nice to keep them but I can see silly money for them. Thats ok with me – its when we lose influential players for fees that aren’t going to make a world of difference that irks.

Greetings to you. Has your status as CQN pantomine villain been diminished? Whereas once you were considered to be rather like a John Lennon ‘Jesus’ comment in the US deep south; now it appears that you are considered to be more like a cuddly Paul McCartney with the thumbs up. Have Celtic sanitised you or are the CQN public more tolerant these days?

Bayern are subsidising the cost of their supporters tickets to the tune of £37 each for tonight’s game at the Emirates.

Ask about that at the meeting.

  16. Hooper didn’t want to stay. Many Celtic supporters on this site were scathing about his contribution towards the end of last season.

I don’t think any of the players you have mentioned wanted to stay regardless of the wages. Realistically a EPL standard player will not stay at Celtic for more than 2 seasons. If they do we have done very well. That is the reality of the situation unless we do amazing things in Europe.

    LB

  18. livibhoy…

Only been to Tynecastle once and had no probs as it happened!

You mentioned Tannadice which has always been one of my fav away grounds. No real hassle there but even yet its funny (peculiar) how attitudes can become fixed even in friendlier environments…

A couple of years ago Tannadice was either our last game or last away of the season. I have friends who I know through marriage who are mad keen United supporters. Anyway a couple of weeks after the match (I think we lost 2-1) was at a family function and got into conversation with said friends…

We chatted about it and they said they enjoyed the game, naturally, but also commented on the Celtic support and the chants emanating from one end and replied to from the other. I know says I it sounds great doesn’t it? Yes they said but why do you always have to bring the IRA into it?

I’m standing staring at them wondering what the f@#k they were talking about. There was no chanting of that type I insisted.

It took a lot of persuading to convince them Glasgow’s Green & White and Come on you Bhoys… was what was being shouted.

Now it was not that they couldn’t make out what was said (I never can!) but rather they just assumed it was ‘political stuff’. These people had no issues with Celtic per se far from it …. But it just shows you how others sometimes innocently see us!

  19. Phyllis

    From previous thread.

Strength in depth below the top teams? All relative I guess mate. I mean, are Spurs, Everton great sides? Probably not, but relative to the 5th and 6th rated teams from Spain and Germany, I’d say they were as good or better. Wolfsburg? Bertha Berlin, Villarreal, sociedad etc?

Below them of course are your Southampton, Newcastle etc, and they’re no class acts, but there are some very poor sides in Spain and Germany too.

Maybe you’re correct Phyllis, and there’s no great strength in depth in respect of quality, but relative to other leagues, they probably have that bit more. Mind you, Sky pay a fortune to all sides in the EPL, so perhaps it’s unsurprising.

I don’t know where it will all end. The debt levels they operate at is staggering.

Hoopers mind wasn’t closed in terms of staying/going. There were a lot of discussions. An extension could have been agreed with a release fee trigger etc but wasn’t to be. He enjoys coming back for games too…

Ledley has gone to Palace, which wouldnt exactly been his move of choice. He knows there is a high chance he’ll end up back where he started, in the Championship. Again, I think he could have been convinced.

Despite that I believe that this is a positive step and hope that it goes some way to building relations between the club and the support.

  22. Some really good questions and some absolute time-wasters

    State Championships

Well we’re about halfway thru the State Championship’s just now and nothing special to tell there. Except the howler by the goal line judge (is that what they’re called?) in last Sunday’s Vasco v Flamengo classico. Apparently he never “saw” this goal (link here : http://www.lancenet.com.br/vasco/FOTOS-redes-marcado-Vasco-piada_5_1085941399.html ). Got to have been a “homer” to have missed that one.

    Serie “A”

Portugesa still suing everybody over their “unfair” relegation at the end of last season. Still a lot of legs in this one.

    Libertadores

Well I guess ye’ve heard enough from me on this one already, anyway.

Only thing to add, is that oddly enough, apart from fans who’s teams are involved I’d probably say the Champions League generates more interest than the Libertadores down here

    The World Cup

FIFA Secretary, Jerome Valcke gave the thumbs up to the Curitba stadium yesterday. However, it still has to be complete by a May 15th deadline.

Funny how the threat of no World Cup managed to unblock the beaurocracy which has been holding up things there. Main problem has not been progress of the work but (“quelle surprise”, as M.Valcke would say) release of the allocated money from the National Development Bank. What’s the monthly interest rate on 60+ mGBP again?

Also, at the stadiums in Porto Alegre and São Paulo (which are, more or less, on target) there are arguments over who picks up the 10-15m GBP tab for all FIFA’s temporary requirements to host a match – the Cooncil, the host club (in this case Inter RS and Corinthians respectively) or the Constructor (principally Odebrecht)?

Oddly enough they all say “No”. Mileage in this one yet.

    Alexandre “Pato”

Looking more like another example of the boy who could’ve been. Pato, ex Inter RS, ex Inter Milan, ex Corinthians, ex Barbara Belusconi’s (Silvio’s wee lassie) beau signed with São Paulo yesterday. Usual platitudes of showing the fans how they’ll see the “Real” Pato and the like. I doubt it.

    Walter

No, not the broon brogued, Carmyle cardigan version.

This one’s the wee, bauchly striker on loan from Porto (and an interesting wee character to boot) where he’s on Contract until 2016. Walter was stand-in for Falcão at Porto but fell out of favour due to “weight issues”.

So he’s been loaned back to Brasil where, last two seasons he’s been top scorer, Serie “B” and runner up serie “A” with Goias. Now’s he’s with Fluminense and bangin them in for fun there. Be interesting to see if Felipão listens to a fair groundswell that he should get a crack in the National side.

Again I doubt it, but it’d be great to see. The wee man stretches the fitba ganzie almost as much as I do in the abdominal region!!!

A hell of a lot worse, and if ever Celtic were to sell out the way most of the top English sides have, then its time to knock it on the head. No, I think we’ll stay where we are, thank you.

More importantly, I think we’ll stay who we are.”

That’s how I think as well. The likes of Monaco, Chelsea, Manchester City and PSG.

I don’t want Celtic to be like that.
