Celtic fundamentals were just fine

By universal consent, Celtic appointed the best possible manager when Ange Postecoglou took over last summer.  Views at the time varied significantly.  Practically none of us had heard of him, some immediately took the view that he was some cheap fodder (reflecting their general world view), the best the rest of us could hope for is that he had talents we were unaware of.  The Aussies know, though.

Getting a managerial appointment right is notoriously difficult.  Today, Manchester United, the club formerly known as the richest in the world, appointed their fifth permanent manager since Alex Ferguson left nine years ago.  Two of the most successful names in the game, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho came and went without issue.  Davie Moyes, who continues to impress at West Ham, was laughed out of town within a year.

For three years until November, they were in the hands of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who achieved merit in three years at Molde, but ready for such a task?  Never.

Even when you have every agent on the planet touting their wares, when you can snap your fingers and get anyone’s ear, fitting the right person to the most important job is remarkably difficult.

After five years at Ajax, Erik ten Hag will take over at Old Trafford in June.  He enjoyed two exceptional Champions League campaigns, won two titles and leads this season.  He also lost home and away to Rosenborg in the Europa League qualifiers after Celtic eliminated Rosenborg from the Champions League.

I put his chances of success in Manchester at no more than 25%.  If the fundamentals of a football club are right, it will recover from setbacks, it not, all it can do it apply lipstick to some bacon.  For all our season of angst, Celtic’s fundamentals were just fine.  The evidence can be found on the pitch and by consulting the league table.

    The 30ml was me i heard it on clyde ss podcast then looked it up,

     

     

    The figures i saw were 30ml US$.

     

     

    I had also asked a few days ago if anyone could confirm………no answer.

    I’ve posted before on why I think the fundamentals of Celtic aren’t right – we have an under-staffed coaching, medical, sports science, analytical and scouting set-up. We’ve not moved with the times and probably basically look like we did when MON and WGS were around. Rodger’s time was the exception but he decimated the back room teams when he left.

     

     

    It’s weird that Paul67 uses this season to say our fundamentals are sound – given our rebuild, that most of our good recruitment is Ange’s eye for a player/contacts book, and the turnaround from last year, I’d suggest we’re closer to the “manager messiah” set-up that Paul67’s been critical of before. If Ange goes, we’re basically starting over – as likely to end up with a WGS/Lennon type as another Ange-type with all the upheaval that’ll come with that!

    My worry for Sunday is the surface.Its a disgrace.Much like Tannadice where we also have to visit again.Great levellers.The pitches apart from ours and theirs are abysmal.Tattie fields or plastic.

    Nice we trip up with a stop at House of Bruar for brunch en route.

     

     

    Hopefully an even nicer return with 3 points in the bag achieved by a positive and energised Celtic. The same one which is unbeaten in 90 minutes domestically since September.

    So much vitriol is directed at Desmond Desmond, who has recently said that he would not sell his shares, not even for four times their value. If all other shareholders are of similar mind, then quite simply Celtic is not for sale, even for c£500m. This offers certainty that is almost unheard of in this mad football world. So it seems that the ‘trolling & hatred’ of the board “suits” is set to continue unabated well into the future.

     

     

    Now just imagine if we had an owner like Cormack of Aberdeen, or, Gordon of Hibs – they seem to say all the right things and wrong things simultaneously – please don’t have nightmares!!!

    We should maybe look to Celtic fc and the company law construct CelticPlc that Celticfc is within and ask what is the illusion?

    Whereas back in the day there was an 8 mile walk to mass,it is full of Catholic schools,chapels and people adding to their own bit and helping others.thriving.but nothing is taken forgranted,the area also has a growing numbers of people who follow Islam,they too are subject to the Bigotry on their backgrounds too.

    Portuguese police have named someone as an arguido. No one has been arrested or charged.

     

     

    The Portuguese police previously had the McCanns as arguidos, and prior to them, Robert Murat.

I’m pretty sure the player in focus is Pat Crerand, who left Celtic in early 1963, which was a long cold winter, whereas the sun is shining in the photo (from the SE judging from the player’s shadows, and no roof at the east terracing back then) so I’m guessing this was taken October 1st 1962 against Kilmarnock. (3pm kick off) Interesting how big the crowd is in the background, and if I am right, the crowd given was 36,000 which is quite generous for the Board back then. Looks a whole lot bigger than that.
