You could see Celtic mature during last night’s game. They were defensively solid during the first half, and Craig Gordon was assured throughout, but for the best part of an hour we scarcely tested St Johnstone.
That changed after the goal, which arrived just as St Johnstone were enjoying their best period of the game. Kris Commons didn’t have his most productive night but it was his pressing which led to the break through.
During the second half Ronny Deila replaced Commons, Stokes and the tiring Forrest with Boerrigter, Inge Berget and Kayal. Even before the home team were reduced to 10 men moments after the final substitution, Celtic were clearly in a more comfortable shape. Players were finding space which didn’t exist earlier.
Maribor made seven changes for last night’s Slovenian Super Cup Final, which they won comfortably against opponents who are pointless in the league after four games. Celtic’s scouts are unlikely to have learned too much useful information ahead of next weeks’ game.
What is clear about Maribor is their aerial threat. Five of their 12 goals this season have been headers, which may influence Ronny’s team selection. They also break quickly down the flanks, so maybe a 4-5-1, offering protection to our full backs, is the way to go. Hopefully we’ve learned we’re not quite ready for 4-3-3 away from home in Europe.
The Slovenian media are dismissive of Celtic’s chances, encouraged, it seems, but continuing celebrations from Maribor that they pulled an “easy” draw. I suspect they’ve yet to see the Celtic who will take the field on Wednesday.

Looks like it’s not a good idea to invest any where around the Govan Ibrokes area?

Only problem I have with Lennoxtown is that it’s called Lennoxtown.
It’s should be renamed after our star administrator.

Bada,
I’m in for a helluva busy day tomorrow though :(
Kojo,
I agree.
The focus should now be totally on first game with Maribor. We are still a team in transition and at this moment in time Maribor are favourites. We need to approach the away game with caution, they will have watched us and watched videos of Legia game. They will attack us down the wings and we need to protect our full backs. Personally I’d like to see the new Man City kid in action, I’d like to see him partner Virgil against The Arabs with Lustig replacing Matthews in the full back slot. If the young guy is a standout then maybe go 5 at the back with 3 central defenders against Maribor. Any thoughts?.
Aye, well….lifes too short.

First SPL game of the season for Celtic and we have a player branded nationally and in complete unnanimty, ‘a cheat’. This is not freedom of the press or media, this is a timely reminder that Celtic are still treated differently to any other club in Scotland.
When Celtic receive a soft award, it’s the only time SMSM give their valued ‘opinion’ but then launch and repeat the agenda for days, with a Boeriggter slur that when echoed often enough, it represents a fact.
There remains no middle ground in Scotland, John Beaton’s penalty award will be ‘noted’, even though he saw it with his eyes, let alone whilst he was turned the other way.
HT- just checked tickets available for the Monday and Wednesday night for A & D, you think they would swap them for you.
Re the extended management team and the Lennoxtown facility, I feel that Celtic are finally moving into the 21st century. A proper and thorough professional approach is very much what we need.
Oh, and a striker of course!

Don’t forget the illegal ebts, ie ones that were more than dodgy, that they had to cough for because they deliberately lied to HMRC about side letters covering them that let HMRC pursue payment after the normal limit of 6 years had passed. Yup ILLEGAL ebts to Flo, De Boer and Flo from 1999 to 2002/03.
It gets worse, they then concealed the documentation that set out the deliberate nature of avoidance from the SPL lawyers who were investigating their use of ebts.
To be fair to them. no one in Football Authority (SFA or SPFL) or the media has pointed this out so they think they are victims.
They also certainly lied to HMRC to get the UEFA licence in 2011.
All of the foregoing, unlike state aid, provable with evidence.
Wheres the MARIBOR money gone?………I think we should be told!

dont know how you can justify this stance when none of our executives renumeration is football related. Event TBB was pointing that out. It must be deliberate if he is so competent. He is also grossly overpaid. Choose any comparison index you want to except Sevco.

I did sense your comments were in jest and I assumed you did not want the honourable gentleman in question to abdicate responsibility for his children
But the fact remains your first thoughts were to get him to celtic Park (albeit by denying his children) – clearly you are a true friend – if you are close friends perhaps you can take his children to Ant and Dec and let Hamiltontim go to the game ??
And rather unusually for this site yes I was being complementary and genuine
Hail Hail my friend

corkcelt- 4-5-1 for me , I would give Berget a run thru the middle on Saturday, not much to go on admittedly ,but signs last night he has good movement and a wee bit of pace. If we could make the ball stick up front ,and get support to him from Forrest possibly, it could help the team settle down a bit.HH

I think the youth coaches have been doing fine.
We have had under-19 squads/teams that have swept the boards for the past 6 years.
The problem is that there is a yawning chasm, a disconnect, between that level and the First Team squad and, since the Hun-inspired abolition of the Scottish Reserve League, there’s nothing to bridge it.
Neil, WGS and Tony Mowbray were all faced with taking promising youngsters from the 18-19-year-old setup and catapulting them into the first-team squad. There was no development step in between. Not surprisingly, none of them were prepared to risk that.
From what (little) I know of Ronny Deila, he will fix that.
John ‘Luggy’ Clark was the best sweeper I’ve seen in the hoops. Get him registered for the Maribor gemme!
Some travel info for Saturday
If you are coming down Cumbernauld Rd and going over the hill down to junction of Todd St and Carntyne Rd/Duke St there is single lane traffic in all directions. They have been working there since Monday. Quite long waiting times at the traffic lights, so it might be better to avoid that junction
I read a few guy showing fear for the Maribor game, let’s get the Dundee Untd. Game put to bed first I know it’s an old cliche but one at a time lads, CL game will come soon enough sat. Is a good game and I’m looking forward to it, cept I hate early Kick Offs, Untd . Will open up at times against us they will not sit back for the 90 mins. Prob. Play the breakin game catching or trying to catch us on the back feet, jackies team was organised last season, and I expect them to be the same, but I honestly think we have a better squad, and that’s the diff..
bournsouprecipe,
A timely reminder of what we face daily in Scotland. The only solution I have is: avoid the smsm in all its forms. The less their audience, the less the money they make; the quicker they may go out of business (hopefully).
That is why I cherish this site. It is also why I detest those who come on here and parrot the nonsense they read in the smsm.
Wouldn’t disagree 67Heaven, apparently Maribor pose a particularly strong aerial threat, so the more big blokes we have at the back the better. Caveat though, if the Man City kid is being considered he would need to be played on Saturday and prove his worth.

I have a hunch or, I’ll guess that, Ronny is trying to get the team flowing the way that he wants and, out of nowhere……Amido will appear up front and, I predict…will score at least a goal per game.
Surely, Ronny will have watched DVD’s of Celtic last season and, will have seen that there were games were, the strikers will have had little or, no chances. Well, thats what I observed.
Now, again I’m only guessing but, had we brought in Suarez, Rooney, Oscar…they would have looked like numpties as well? Only my guess.
The trick is, get the ba to the bye line and get it into the box. Simples.

Why were D & P allowed to sell the bhuns to greengo for the reduced sale price of £5.5m.. This not allowed under Business Law …… They should have sold to the highest bidder …..or ….. Sold all assets for the creditors (under liquidation)…..
I was told BDO are investigating this aspect, before finalising liquidation …… The fact that BDO ARE DRAGGING THEIR HEALS with this investigation, stinks of corruption of the highest order …..

And so it begins like it never went away…welcome to Bonnie Scotland Ronny.

Like a jockey at the Grand National, Celtic will tackle each fence as it comes…
…but always trying position themselves to be well placed for the next again fence.
Dundee Utd first but looking to next Wednesday.
Made sense in my head CSC
I thought I might head to Celtic Park on Saturday but the cheapest hotel I can find is £100.
Does anyone belong to CSC who have a deal with a hotel?
Just in case anyone missed it…………………..

UEFA Appeals Body: Legia Warszawa case
The UEFA Appeals Body met yesterday following an appeal by Legia Warszawa against the decision taken by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on 8 August.
The appeal lodged by the Polish club was rejected and, therefore, the original decision of the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body is confirmed.
The Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body had sanctioned Legia for fielding a suspended player (Article 18 of the Regulations of the UEFA Champions League, 2014/15 competition, and Article 21 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, 2014 edition) in the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round return leg against Celtic FC in Edinburgh on 6 August. That match has been declared as a forfeit, meaning Legia lost 3-0.

I think we play Dundee Utd at the weekend, we should focus our attentions on that match before we start day dreaming about the Champions League, Jackie is building a good wee team, I like him and I like the effort his players are putting in.
We need to match that effort at the very least, we are at home, the flag will be unfurled, Fergus will be getting his long overdue applause, it’s going to be emotional.
Jackie will be looking to exploit those, they are not coming to join in our party. They will be here to smash the stereo, snog our girlfriends, and pee in the punch.
No distractions Celtic, you better be prepared.
Hail Hail.
