You could see Celtic mature during last night’s game. They were defensively solid during the first half, and Craig Gordon was assured throughout, but for the best part of an hour we scarcely tested St Johnstone.
That changed after the goal, which arrived just as St Johnstone were enjoying their best period of the game. Kris Commons didn’t have his most productive night but it was his pressing which led to the break through.
During the second half Ronny Deila replaced Commons, Stokes and the tiring Forrest with Boerrigter, Inge Berget and Kayal. Even before the home team were reduced to 10 men moments after the final substitution, Celtic were clearly in a more comfortable shape. Players were finding space which didn’t exist earlier.
Maribor made seven changes for last night’s Slovenian Super Cup Final, which they won comfortably against opponents who are pointless in the league after four games. Celtic’s scouts are unlikely to have learned too much useful information ahead of next weeks’ game.
What is clear about Maribor is their aerial threat. Five of their 12 goals this season have been headers, which may influence Ronny’s team selection. They also break quickly down the flanks, so maybe a 4-5-1, offering protection to our full backs, is the way to go. Hopefully we’ve learned we’re not quite ready for 4-3-3 away from home in Europe.
The Slovenian media are dismissive of Celtic’s chances, encouraged, it seems, but continuing celebrations from Maribor that they pulled an “easy” draw. I suspect they’ve yet to see the Celtic who will take the field on Wednesday.

I will be extremely disappointed ( to put it mildly ) if we don’t have a full house for the Maribor return leg ……and the atmosphere needs to be even better than THAT Barcelona game …… This is Mega important

can anyone tell me the exact score against legia warsaw over two legs coz fudbag jim white is adamant it was 7-1 to legia over two legs.as i said fudbag of the highest order.
==============
4-1 first leg
0-2 2nd
Aggregate 6-1
However second game forfeit and awarded to Celtic 3-0 making it 4-4 aggregate and we qualified on account of away goal. You could argue on sporting merit and add in big Frasers penalty save to boot.
Is there a date for Maribor tickets going on sale to non ST holders? Can see that on the club site, though not easy to see everything on this phone
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hi there eejit:)
To cut a long story short….it’s the freemasons v’s Celtic.
But, heres the twist…the freemasons know that it’s only a plastic imitation of Celtic(created by McCann) that is, on the go these days.
Plastic – no balls – no rebels – just charlatans – taking anybody who canny see through them, for a ride.
The floor is yours……
Neil Mc Cann observed leaving the Sky building in a straight jacket last night. H H
Certain amount of sympathy, remains for Legia Warsaw such a silly error that cost the superior side, the tie.
I agree with others that the 3-0 rule for playing a suspended player requires review, as does the clarification and definition of the 25’s players rule, which encapsulates suspensions, and Legia’s misfortune.
A lifetime in Scotland supporting Celtic and mixing with all Scottish people in all walks of life, generates much more sympathy for Celtic, on a daily basis not just when we are the recipients of good fortune, at someone else’s expense.
Does the “score” against LW matter now , in remotely meaningful way?
And cut big Jim White some slack — it cannae be easy to read the news when yer spewin intae a bucket…

The burning, driving mind-set of the ‘supporters’ is – we need to get into that group stage.
We need the CL money!
What for?
Where does it go?
Don’t be fooled by, any of the ‘boreds’ lackeys and their, audited accounts pish.
Believe ‘nothing’ that the carefully planted lackeys try to spin and, at the end of the day….you won’t be left feeling like a sucker.
Please take heed amigo.
It feels good knowing that ‘you’ve’ not been had by the ‘bored’.
Try it and see……

Maribor sees a team in utter disarray, with a new manager and a new style, who got deservedly thrashed 6-1 on aggregate by a modest European side.
They didn’t see Celtic.
Agree, play it tight as hell over there, protect the back 4, rely on the breaks and keep a clean sheet. Ideally of course, take an away goal, which is not beyond us.
As long as the tie is still alive, we’ll take them at Celtic Park, on Ronny Deila’s debut there. He has no idea what it’s going to feel like on that Wednesday night.
And neither do Maribor. They are lulled… they think this is as good as a bye… well…
Meet the new Celtic! At home!
And cheerio!
So PL had 6 minders last night, allegedly.
On his salary I would expect him to have at least 10. Cheapbhoying it as usual :-)

Ach, well….don’t say ye wurny telt…..
It’s not often I’ll say this but I’d like to thank Ally McMoist and Rangers. They trained Craig Gordon until he was fit enough for them to decide Cammy Bell was better. Of course they are right, but it is a small comfort to have a £9 million keeper coming into his prime for nothing thanks to the Murray Park Hoover Belt.
Cheers Ally.

I agree , by and large , with your sentiments re LW.
My sympathy , however , all but evaporated this week after their disgraceful and infantile attempts at deflection and emotional blackmail in attempting to drag us into their mire.
Had their public position , even if different privately , were to have been along the lines of –
“This is no-one fault but ours (least of all Celtic’s who we accept ,although they stand to be extremely well rewarded by our incompetence, can do nothing but passively await the verdict). We accept that but our appeal to UEFA is based on the punishment not fitting the crime etc etc”
then my sympathy for them would not have diminished.

whats he been saying.
Although I can probably guess…
I hope the mind set of the Maribor players and officials is they are delighted not to meet Legia Warsaw and are delighted to meet the easy option Celtic. This attitude might lead to there undoing and Celtic progressing. H.H.

The whole episode was a scam played on Scottish football from 1999 right through to 2012 but there are two possibilities.
It is so complicated and involves so many aspects it is taking BDO a lot of time to investigate
or
The implications are already so clear they* are trying to find ways of burying the seedier aspects of the whole business.
* It goes all the way up. Remember Alex Salmond talking to HMRC about Rangers tax position?
http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/spfl-lower-divisions/rangers-administration-alex-salmond-knew-about-administration-threat-1-2146128
There was a meeting with the First Ministers team in December 2011, two months before administration and the same month Rangers met Regan and Ogilvie over dinner to discuss the UEFA 2011 licence and other matters.
The outcome of that meeting between Rangers and the FM’s team was a note giving the FM permission to speak to HMRC (he had no more right than you or I to intervene without Rangers permission) on 11th Jan 2012 but what else was discussed at that FM team meeting?
Keeping the lid on things is a possibility don’t you think?
A freedom of information request to find out what took place was refused.

Thank you! Crucial NK Maribor match on season ticket
By: Newsroom Staff on 14 Aug, 2014 17:22
WE are pleased to announce that the home leg of our crucial UEFA Champions League play-off tie against NK Maribor will feature as one of the matches included for all Season Ticket holders as part of their Season Ticket package.
The match sees European football return to Celtic Park on Tuesday, August 26 (KO: 7.45pm) and we’re looking forward to a full house as we aim to make it to the group stages of the UEFA Champions League for the third consecutive season.
20 minute walk from the kings park hotel to celtic park?
we must have some olympic class walkers in our support, ones who cheat by bursting into a run now and again and pop on the bus for part of it hoping no one notices ;-)
BadaBing – thank you I just called them, they won’t entertain any exchanges!
Just pray he doesn’t lose at 5s tonight! And there had better be no dead legs!!
PS the kids are still for sale will throw in free Ant and Dec tickets with them!!
