Celtic in Group of Champions

918

Celtic join Barcelona, Milan and Ajax in the Champions League’s only group of former champions.

We beat Barcelona and Milan the last time we played each of them, and eliminated Ajax from the same competition last time we met 12 years ago. This is an incredibly difficult group, but it is the job we wanted this time yesterday.

Now we must get ready for the task ahead.  Prepare properly and fear no one.

There will be a ticket scramble, among those who didn’t renew their season tickets………..

Don’t be a muppet. You’re one of the people who deliberately try to divide the support when we’re on an even keel. You’re probably a Hunterloper out to cause trouble.

And incidentally, no one is eating humble pie about our shocking tour of Germany. We got into the CL in spite of it.

Not just because he was our ’67 EC captain and Club Legend but because I have known him and respected him for 50 years.

I was lucky enough to have a delivery-boy (Granville) job after school hours and weekends. Used to deliver groceries to Liz and Billy’s house – you can imagine how in awe it was for a school boy to talk to a footballing hero and a gorgeous looking dancer.

They treated me brilliantly – Billy often chatted to me – Liz always tipped me a half-crown and sent me off (back to the Co-op) with an; apple, orange or pear.

Have had the pleasure of relaying that tale (and having a laugh about it with them) a few times in later years. God Bless the big man!

Think Celtic will be hearing about this, by the looks of cyberspace – not letting this one go.

  12. Been travelling all day from Glasgow, great night last night. Only found out the draw a couple of hours ago. Interesting thing was I saw it on BBC sport in Hereford and the Bhoys were given top billing with an interview with NL and the English teams were given a secondary mention just giving the teams they were drawn against.

Fuming at the moron representing paddy power. How i feel about paddy power will depend on how they deal with this. Having a cheap laugh at an auld man is dispicable.

I’m sure you must be getting sick of the clowns who come on here having a go at Celtic supporters who legitimately challenge aspects of the running of the club. It is unbelievable that they seek to come on and have a dig just after the team has had a triumph that makes every Celtic supporter happy. I think it is born out of a Hunnish trait that you don’t question authority Eventually those in power do what they want and the club goes down the spout.

I don’t know about you but I’m going to scroll past them in future. Their type would jeopardise the Club I love.

    ………………

The circumstances are/were that he is a 73 year old man who was visibly frail and verbally a little off the mark in an interview in front of millions. As for the dexterity he seemed to lack, the same thing happened to Luis Figo.

    Paddy Power ..what a shower.

  20. Look i don’t post much basically because I’m crap at it and i don’t go anymore so my opinions are zilch but if it’s true those employees of Paddy Power said that about Billy McNeill, then their heads should very publicly roll. It was my 9th birthday on the 24/5/67 and we know what happened later. I had the privilege of meeting Mr McNeill a few times when i was a wee girl and i adore that man, a true and great gentleman. Had my rant away back to lurking. Hail Hail to every ghirl and bhoy tonight and God bless NFL and the team

Great draw for the club and no doubt Celtic players are capable of raising their game in this company as they proved last night and in previous encounters with the big sides.

Celtic have made the group stages of the Champions Lge for the umpteenth time in the last decade. I reckon Celtic now have a higher profile in European football than any team below the top six in the EPL. Many of the EPL teams would be unknown in Europe.

Interesting to see who the new additions to the squad will be.

    ========================================================

I’ve been in Russia, Malaysia, Thailand and Nigeria in the last 12 months……….and EVERYONE knows who Celtic are……

We get called Celtic Glasgow, Team Celtic, Glasgow Celtic and well…….plain old Celtic but EVERYONE knows who we are.

Most struggle to name any other Scottish team…………curiously enough he he

  22. Marti Sandino Supports Wee Oscar @21.47 hrs.

Absolutely no need for any apology, I too am getting more annoyed as the night progresses.

I think we have not heard the end of this!!!

I knew Billy was ill but I was surprised and saddened at the extent. A mickey take under a company banner is ill-judged, in extremely bad taste and totally unacceptable.

Many talk about legends and it is an over hyped phrase.

In the case of Billy McNeill it is a statement of fact. A true legend in Celtic, Scotland and European football.

There is a picture of the Lisbon Lions adorning many establishments and even to any non football persons it is very evident who the captain is. The stature, the pride and the sense of leadership is there for all to see.

Football legend = Our own Billy McNeill.

    HH, Always in Celtic.

So it was o.k. that they didn’t know ‘the circumstances’, but it was still fine, to mock an elderly man that was clearly having difficulty, on live TV, being watched by millions

Fine – not a big deal, more important things, they’ve already lost thousands of pounds by the offended Celtic supporters, even if you or I isn’t offended.

    Think before you tweet CSC

  24. Just withdrew money and closed my Paddy Power account.

Hope everyone does the same and hurts them in the pocket.

  25. I did have a big moan about central defensive pairing last week but just look at some of the names eliminated from Europe (all together) tonight:

    Spartak Moscow

    Stuttgart

    St Etienne

    Udinese

    Feyenoord

I saw the tweet and, while it was in poor taste, it was more stupid than nasty imo. A misfire. Don’t think there needs to be mass outrage. Anyway, no more on the subject from me.

  27. The last 24 hours or so have been, well, breathtaking.

Great, as usual, to be a Tim.

I can see our Euro opponents fans looking at the draw and saying –

“Forster, Broony, aye and don’t forget Big Sammi”

    Bring it on!

Regarding discussion about Shakhter Karagandy fans.

I googled for reports from their trip to Glasgow and found two with videos and comments from their fans. You really will not find bad word there. You will not find sings of sympathy for Rangers and praise for them. Yes, Rangers were trying to show Karagandy fans that they are good guys. From the reports and videos I can see that Rangers fans were taking Shakhter supporters from the streets and other places to their pubs. Answer on that on the website” – All in Glasgow were very friendly !!! Hugs, kisses from Glasgow people!!!One of the videos shows Rangers fans pulling the guys from Kazakhstan to the fence where they had Rangers “memorabilia” including Union Jack.

I really guess that Shakhter Karagandy did not know that showing Union Jack at the game would be found hostile by Celtic fans.

P.S. When few posters were telling you that Peter Lawwell should go, you did not listen to them and called them Mineshafters.

Now you got your comeuppance. Barca, Milan… He can’t even stop making this Champions League boring.

    ……………………………………………

You’ve got a very wicked sense of humour, Mr. Z. :-))

  29. I like the look of this Biton guy.

    More like him please, Pedro.

Oh, and a striker as well.
