CELTIC PUSH FOR DOUBLE DEAL

CELTIC are pushing ahead with plans to extend Liam Scales’ contract which is due to expire in June next year.

And the champions are also in renewed talks with Republic of Ireland international winger Rocco Vata with his deal due to come to an end at the conclusion of the current campaign, according to the Daily Record.

Brendan Rodgers has been impressed by 25-year-old Scales who looked to be heading back to Aberdeen for a second successive loan season before the second coming of the Northern Irishman in June.

THAT’S MY BHOY…Brendan Rodgers sends on Rocco Vata against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

The versatile back-four operator has become a fixture in central defence to the extent £3million signing Gustaf Lagerbielke is surplus to requirements at the champions and will almost certainly be on the move only 12 months after his arrival from Elfsborg.

Rodgers admitted he liked Scales’ style after a couple of pre-season friendlies, as CQN reported back in July.

The defender, who can also play left-back, was an Ange Postecoglou signing from Shamrock Rovers in August 2021, has now broken into the Republic of Ireland reckoning which has seen his value soar from the Hoops’ initial outlay of £650,000.
Celtic hope to seal the deal in the coming weeks and they aim for a double announcement with Vata, son of former Parkhead star Rudi, about to be offered new terms.
An enhanced four-year offer is coming the way of the exciting 18-year-old prospect who scored his first goal for the club in the 5-0 Scottish Cup win over Buckie Thistle last month.
