Celtic still looking for midfield magic

771

A comfortable win in the end masked a difficult hour for Celtic at Inverness on Saturday.  It was not until Ki Sung-Yeung replaced Georgios Samaras that Celtic were able to prize open the home team.  Ki has the range of passing and shot that makes him a formidable attacking threat but he has still to require the consistency of concentration that would make him a certain starter.

After Paddy McCourt appeared on 69 minutes Celtic were well on top.  The Irishman brings the double gifts of time and space to the team.  He has the ability to take and retain possession despite the close attention of several defenders, allowing others to take up advance positions or relieve pressure on defence.

We’ve tried more midfield formations this season that I can keep track of and despite Ki and McCourt improving Celtic considerably on Saturday I’m not going to insist either is given a starting berth.  Both still have more to give, as do the rest of the midfield.

I should have put “if” in capital letters. This is all speculation until we see the contract. I guess one thing that they are trying to ensure here is that neither us, or them (highly unlikely given their current state) jump leagues during this contract.

What if such a friendly was to net us £5M and them only £1M?

  3. weeminger:

Who give’s a tosh what it nets us, it is what we do in support of them that is the issue!!! as far as I am concerned anyway but everybody to their own. How much would you sell your soul for?

Mort, surely if the TV contract forbids these potential eventualities from occurring then the sporting integrity of the game in the SPL is in question because the football authorities are preventing them from potentially happening.

The devil is in the detail. All we have seen are press reports about what is in the contract and what their interpretation is. If this “proviso” or whatever it is has been included in previous contracts, the only reason we are hearing about it now is becasue there is a real possiblility of Rangers going under and that is scaring a lot of people.

Good Morning to the Celtic Family from a dry and bright Central Scotland. Well Bhoys and Ghirls this is a sad day for me if as many on CQN are suggesting Newco Rangers are allowed to enter the SPL and not start right at the bottom of the pile. That will be it for me I will be finished with Scottish football they have been cheating to win trophies for years now and if there is any justice they will be demoted to the bottom league. However,I do not trust those at the top of Scottish football and can see the scenario in my mind of them being allowed entry to the SPL to continue on there cheating ways.H.H.

  7. Morning CQNer’s.

It amazes me that, countless castles were built in the sky/on CQN and all the other Celtic fans websites ?

I’ve said it before on CQN and, i’ll say it again…..

For as long as Scotland is hunland then, the huns will NEVER disappear!

The Scottish establishment, backed by the Celtic board will ensure that the, O## F### will always be so!

An awful LOT of Celtic fans need to realise that, Scotland IS the huns/the huns ARE Scotland!!!

It will always be that way in this country! IMO!

That leave’s me to conclude….”Sack The Board Now or, we’ll pass the huns on the way down!!!”

You KNOW it makes sense ?

    Hail! Hail!

Sadly, i agree….its a bad day when they can just make up the rules as they go along.

These cheats have destroyed scottish football, and if this is the way things are going…i just wont bother.

Im sick of the halfwits who run Celtic…It seems to me that they do not have our best interests at heart.

    No Old Firm

A least this deal will stop the sentiment ” Sky will want us to join to further the product”

They actually are paying to keep us in scotland- Golden Handcuffs.

    Play

  12. This new deal gets each team an average of £250k a year more than the deal the SPL had to agree to when Setanta went “pop!”. It’s still down 60% on that deal (ok I know it was overpriced) – that ain’t going to keep the wolf from the door at Poundland or miniPoundland.

But it is a disgrace that it seems the SPL have effectively nullified their own rules regarding suspending or demoting teams for financial impropriety as that would breach this contract and put the whole leagbue in jeopardy. It’s a disgrace. I wouldn’t be suprised if there also some small print regarding the competitiveness of the league that means they can’t even get docked points?

Rangers as a club will get off Scot-free (pun intended) in terms of their decades of financial doping. God I’m mad.

  13. Morning all from gay Paree, beautiful morning – pity I’m stuck in the oaffice.

Big game for us tomorrow. Anybody got any news of players getting back from injury (Cha, Mulgrew, Rogne, etc)?

Ok, you are obviously in the know. What have the “halfwits” done now?

    Don’t bother answering.

    I rest my case.

  15. Barrach Obampot on

Mort do you think the original intention of the proviso was to ensure that neither us or the manky mob left for pastures new? If that was the original plan, they’ve now made a legal headache for themselves if there isn’t a proviso for an insolvency event. If there isn’t one then the game here really is a bogey. But as you say, the devil in the detail, and until we see the contract, we can speculate about this until the huns go bust …which hopefully won’t be too long now!

  16. Tom McLaughlin

What have the halfwits done you ask

Well…by your stupid comments, you would certainly know

    ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

    No news m8!

Just a wish that, NL has now seen that with Mulgrew out of the defence then, the defence don’t get the jitters when a mistake is made! IMO!

Mulgrew’s best position was when NL played him at, left mid v’s the huns on january! IMO!

    Hail! Hail!

  18. Surely the stipulation of 4 games against the huns would only be to ensure that if league reconstruction comes along there must still be 4 games or if either left the league the deal was off.

If it was to say that one of us couldn’t be relegated due to being pish or liquidated that would fly in a competition laws of Scotland, the UK and Europe. It would be gerrymandering of the highest level.

  19. Before anyone gets too far down the road – didn’t the SPL say there was dissent regarding this deal. Does anyone know who voted against this or what in fact they were viting for?

  20. Paul67, anything more you can say on whether there’s any substance to this rumour about the Sky/ESPN contract overriding SPL rules?

  21. The Green Man –

So the answer is – you haven’t got a clue?

Tom McLaughlin 9.50 The Green Man is talking hypotheticaly as is everyone on CQN about a Newco Rangers.I have the feeling that if it comes to pass that they are allowed entry to the SPL Celtic will be able to shut down the top tier at Celtic Park as they will lose so many fans good fans who dont want to spend there hard earned cash watching a rigged game. Now Tom that is only my opiniom it might happen it might not that is thenature of writing on CQN without the full knowledge of what is really going on.H.H.

That probably sounds about right. No doubt with penalties for breaking contract should either get an offer they couldn’t refuse.

    1. Do you think the SPL board have reached a decision on how to deal with an application from an Administrator or Liquidator of the huns to transfer their membership of the SPL to a newco huns?

    2. Do you think the members of the SPL have been consulted by the SPL board on the matter?

    3. Do you think the Celtic board have discussed the matter and agreed how to proceed?

  26. jocky bhoy 9.54

According to some Hun on RTC the only dissenting voice was Inverness Caley Thistle. Celtic apparently voted yes.

The source is a hun though so he could be at the wind up.
