Celtic still looking for midfield magic

771

A comfortable win in the end masked a difficult hour for Celtic at Inverness on Saturday.  It was not until Ki Sung-Yeung replaced Georgios Samaras that Celtic were able to prize open the home team.  Ki has the range of passing and shot that makes him a formidable attacking threat but he has still to require the consistency of concentration that would make him a certain starter.

After Paddy McCourt appeared on 69 minutes Celtic were well on top.  The Irishman brings the double gifts of time and space to the team.  He has the ability to take and retain possession despite the close attention of several defenders, allowing others to take up advance positions or relieve pressure on defence.

We’ve tried more midfield formations this season that I can keep track of and despite Ki and McCourt improving Celtic considerably on Saturday I’m not going to insist either is given a starting berth.  Both still have more to give, as do the rest of the midfield.

do you mean – we would be better off winning a one horse league than taking our chance in a two horse race?

I suppose if we got CL entry every year it would vastly outweigh the £1-2m TV rights money…

Whatever the decision – I suspect Lawwell will be driven by ££ arguments rather than moral arguments…or any fan wishes.

Longer termi have reservations about a one horse SPL race.. Celtic would need an escape route – not sure how much that is being worked on…?

  4. No sectarian element in a mob going to Stokes’ home and breaking his windows. Nothing sectarian in the SM running the story about his mother. It’s just an amazing coincidence that one of the most in form Celtic players has been attacked in this way!

  5. Any Sky/ESPN TV deal for the SPL will include a guaranteed 4 x glasgow derby games. If the 5 year deal is £16m per year with Sky paying the most as they get the 4 games. Remove those 4 games and the deal would be worth less than half of £80m over 5 years.

I mean we can’t let their cheating go unpunished plain and simple..

that is one of the most ludicrouds things you’ve ever posted. it makes no sense on so many different levels.

its making my head hurt thinking about it, there’s so many crazy suppositions in it

  8. Kayal33

Maybe those caveats are why the SPL hasn’t confirmed numbers.

The BBC is running with the high number, which could be part of a campaign to get SPL member clubs to vote yes for Newco Football Club, classic dangling of a carrot, allowing them to come back to the £80m figure at crunch time and say that it’s £80m if Newco get in and £80m minus x if they don’t.

I pray that those who make these decision open their eyes, it’s a no win situation, jeezo, they think Islamic bad boys are bad just now, ffs they don’t know what’s around the corner, and I very much doubt China will sit back and allow them to control most of the oil produced in the world.

I have worked a bit in the middle east and China are seriously prominent, they will havesomething to say.

    THE EXILED TIM:

Saudi Arabia is where the main Holy Places are. Jerusalem is the sought-after city. Iraq was Sunni. Kuwait is about as secular as anywhere on the planet and even the Taliban were not particularly Islamist, more a hodge-podge of various sects.

Iran is the motherlode. Iran is the spiritual centre of the Faith. An attack on Iran will radicalise the whole Islamic ummah.

There will be suicide bombers in every Western capital. It will be beyond belief. It must not be allowed.

  13. RTC

There is no set schedule for the judges to post their findings. (It will be posted as an anonymised entry on the tribunals service website. Rangers will not be named. However, you can be sure that I will help decode anything that is not clear). It is probable that we will learn the outcome sometime in March 2012.

So the judges make their decision and release it a month after that ?

    Shieldmuir

yeah, it was obviously a non runner from the start, it’s staggering what Rangers thought they could get away with

No it should not happen, but it might.

The young fella has just told me that there could well be a conflict and the sides are already well defined, Iran currently supply China with much Gas and Oil and The Russians are not too happy with that agreement, and he also said that when the Republicans gain control in America after the next election, that’s when America will decide to go for broke.

You know, he is not long turned 23 and he already knows more than I do, the education has worked, most important he is a good Tim.

It’s absolute garbage. He’s either been fed deliberate misinformation or he’s misrepresenting what he’s been told.

I don’t think there is an iota of truth in it at all.

Personal opinion, based on good supporting evidence, including the words of our host here, who knows a few people himself.

  18. TV Deals:

    ICC investigate corrupt TV deals.

FIFA & UEFA set out the rules, legislation and guidance for TV companies bidding for any Member Associations’ football live & highlights coverage, following numerous cases of corruption in the awarding of TV deals (see example link).

SKY/ ESPN are hardly likely to jeopardise lucrative; International, Champions League and other Domestic contracts by interfering in the ‘make-up’ of the backwater SPL.

Lazy journalism – or yet another spin by Media House?

  20. hen1rik

Don’t believe a word of it. I refuse to follow this line of thinking that Celtic, in any shape or form, would support or advocate their reintroduction as a newco.

    Erne Lynch….

“I fear the worst and suspect a deal has been done and Celtic have been party to it.”

I would suggest that the Celtic Board would not have anything to do with sitting down with others to work out to keep rankers in the SPL…….too much has happened over the last 3 years to have us fearing this………and they will know that any such collusion would have dire consequences for our current Board…..

This SKY deal is normal business practise where they have offered us (comparative) ‘pennies’ again, and because of the state of Scottish Football, we have no alternative but to graciously accept it, pretending it is a good deal…….when you consider how much SKY are paying other associations per annum, you realise this is small fry ‘change’ we are getting…..they should have, at least, thrown in Burley’s head….LOL…

No, we shouldn’t read anything into this…..just keep supporting the Bhoys, and imagine what like it will be when our fans, manager, and the good people of Manchester can sleep easy in their beds at night…..

There are better things to think about, like how any government is going to allow a football team to walk away from a £60m tax bill….yes, £60m…it was £50m some months ago……..THE FLOOD GATES WOULD OPEN….!!!TICK TOCK

  22. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!! Tick Tock !! on

……meant to also say, when the rankers go out of business, the team which replaces them in the SPL, will pick up the SKY money……..

  23. The one thing that does worry me more than anything is China, America and Russia carving things up between themselfs.

Now that would never happen, just like deals behind closed doors within the scottish football fraternity never happens.

  24. James Forrest is Lennon on

    THE EXILED TIM:

Certainly it will not happen via the Security Council. I expect China and Russia both to veto any such move. It will have to be done uniltarerally, and I wonder if it’s not going to end with either the Russians or Chinese making a move first.

Airdrop 5000 Chinese or Russian troops into Isfahan and suddenly it become a lot more complicated. The strategic situation facing Russia, in particular, would be critical if the Americans were to attempt to take the country, not that I believe such a thing could be done. The Iraqi people, by and large, were sick of Saddam and the majority of the population had been oppressed by him, as they were Shi’ite. But Iran is 95% Shia, and that nation would never tolerate an occupying army.

If they did, though, if America was foolish enough to try, the situation facing Russia would be intolerable. Total American control of the Middle East oil supply. A voracious and growing rival to their east. American military bases on all sides of the country. It could hamper their efforts to reassert their global position, possibly indefinitely.

Neither of the big powers would allow it. Pakistan would certainly have to refuse to give their support as there would certainly be another Islamic uprising there and people would find themselves with their backs to the walls, facing guns.

The geopolitical fallout would be … enormous.
