CELTIC TARGET POLE

CELTIC have targeted Polish centre-back Pawel Dawidowicz as part of their summer rebuild.

The champions will need to strengthen the middle of their rearguard with Shane Duffy returning to Brighton after his disappointing loan period.

Kristoffer Ajer continues to be linked with AC Milan and other top-rated European club and there is every likelihood versatile Nir Bitton, who has filled in at the back four in emergency, will return to Israel, as CQN reported earlier this week. The international midfielder, who has won seven titles at the Hoops, is on the summer wanted list of Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Neil Lennon has drafted in 21-year-old Stephen Welsh for the last three games – wins against Kilmarnock, Motherwell and St Mirren – while Christopher Jullien should be fit to return following the knee injury that is likely to keep him out for the remainder of the season.

A new centre-back will be a priority and Verona’s towering stopper Dawidowicz has already been the subject of a Celtic approach, according to Italian media outlet Tutto hellas verona.

The no-nonsense defender came through the youth ranks at Benfica before making a loan spell at Verona permanent in 2019.

It is also claimed Neil Lennon was chasing the player’s signature last summer, but were snubbed by the Serie A outfit.

However, he has now “ended up in the crosshairs” of the Hoops again, according to the report. Dawidowicz has one full international cap which he won in 2015.
