  1. Afternoon gentlemen and lady friends from a Peroni soaked Paisley

For those posting about Murdo McLeod and his affiliations and also his observations and criticism of Kayal, perhaps you will permit me to add to the debate?

I played youth and reserve team football under him for two years and while I don’t profess to know him personally I gained an impression of the man as a 16-17 year old. He knew me and many other apprentices to be Celtic men and mercilessly wound us up, especially in the run up to a Glasgow derby. He informed us Rangers would win and how they would go about it. Now, given these conversations took place between 1994 and 1996 he was never far off the mark.

Apparently he had a fondness for the Ibrox side as a youngster.

He would often stop training in Maryhill to instruct us youngsters on shooting technique. These sessions will never, ever leave me as he lashed 30 yarders in with left and right, dead ball or moving ball, volley or half volley. I think he was 41 or 42 at this point but he was leathering everything beyond the first team keepers with ease.

My point is this. Murdo McLeod is not a pure Celtic man although I am uneasy with such a term. But I think he is a great Celtic man despite the way he wound me and many others up at Thistle. It was always, in my opinion, tongue in cheek.

    His record reads as follows:

    281 appearances, 55 goals

Five titles. 2 Scottish Cups. 1 League Cup.

As Assistant Manager he stopped the ten.

He is more than qualified to discuss the merits and abilites of Beram Kayal who as yet has done nothing in a Celtic jersey, except play well on a few occassions. I share McLeod’s concerns about Kayal. He is petulant and selfish, though clearly he has ability. If you look back in the annals of history when there is a huge Celtic moment, Murdo speaks well of the club, whether it be at Seville or regarding the great Tommy Burns. I am perturbed to hear he campaigns for the Conservative party, but politics aside, he doesn’t deserve some of the sniping he gets from Celtic fans – he is a good man, who achieved a lot for Celtic.

And yes, he is in the pay of the Record and Shortbread but a man has to live and maintain a standard for his family. I have yet to hear anything outragous attributed to him. I think he is fair and calls it as he sees it. I would swap Murdo for Beram evey day of the week.

  2. Gary Hooper hasn’t look fully fit for weeks, I suspect he has a glass ankle since the bougherra assault, I think we rushed him back today, a good three points today anything less would have been a disaster.

Well Played Charlie Mulgrew and the rest of the Bhoys.

Nerves shredded but there you go, we live to fight another day.

For young Bhoys Adam and Victor very good performances!

That’s the dirtiest Aberdeen team I’ve seen for a long time.

Referee hang your head in shame, poor poor performance.

  3. Geez, when is all this looking to the next transfer window ever going to stop?

The questions which, in my opinion, need to be asked are.

    1. When is Lenny going to get the best out of his players?

    2. When are the players – that is, THE PLAYERS!!! – ever, Ever, EVER going to stand up?

We may not have spent the amount some supporters want spent – but we have spent more than enough to be closer to Rangers than we are now.

I don’t rate him, end of, you do obviously do, everyone has their opinion. The 3rd choice, unwanted newcastle keeper shouldn’t be an automatic first pick at Celtic in my opinion, especially when he’s not very good.

  5. CultsBhoy hates being 2nd on

    Here’s a phrase I don’t use too often..

MWD is absolutely spot on re lack of tackles by our defenders at Sheep goal..I would have been hacked off with my son’s U10’s team for that complete lack of challenge. Keeper should not have even been asked to make a save there..

I’m desperately looking for a sign of improvement – something to give me hope that it’s all going to be alright..I’m just not seeing it..

  6. Neil Lennon is (and always will be) a Celtforlife (*O*) on

    Shocking scenes from Turkey.

  7. >> The questions which, in my opinion, need to be asked are.

    >> 1. When is Lenny going to get the best out of his players?

Since we cant afford to buy the finished article, I’d prefer to ask whether we have the coaches to make a player better. Will Bangura develop a decent first touch at Lennoxtown?

  8. The Battered Bunnet on

Kojo is bang on the money with regard to our striking problem.

Neither of today’s starters did very much to justify themselves.

Considering Sammi is few folks’ idea of a centre forward, and Bangura has yet to show us if he has anything of value, the priority for this team is a striker. A guy who puts the ball in the net. Like Cadette. Frinstance.

Thought Ki had a poor game, and Forrest doesn’t have a scooby what that position needs. It’s an experienced player who knows how to play ‘in the hole’ and young Jamesie is lacking on the experience department.

3 points is the requirement in every SPL game for Celtic, and today we met the requirement, but there was lttle in the way of trouble for Aberdeen to cope with. to progress, we need some players who understand the game, rather than more who are learning it.

    IMO of course.

BTW what was with the Cops at the dugout area in the 2nd half?

BTW BTW Green Brigade: You’re gonna have to drop it. You win plaudits for energy, fun and thoughtfulness, and lose them again for showing a pair of skiddy underpants.

Not so sunny?????? My heart bleeds for you.

  10. Just thawing out but today was poor. The formation was wrong to start with and the attitude was wrong for an hour.

What’s happened to the players from last season? Did they need a cause to get behind last season as this year they look disjointed, dispirited and at times not happy to be here.

If we had played a team with decent forwards we would have lost.

Three points after Europe i what counts but this team isn’t strong enough to win the league.

  11. Kayal33

The “3rd choice, unwanted newcastle keeper” was wanted by both Celtic and Newcastle. If he was unwanted at Newcastle, we would have him here as an employee and not a loanee. If he was unwanted by Lenny, he would not be here.

Forster is 2 notches above Zaluska’s level and will be a top class keeper within 2 years. His managers at Stockport, Bristol and Norwich also tried to secure him because of his clean sheet records whilst playing with them.

If Given is not coming , and that seems unlikely, I’ll stick with Fraser until I see a stronger keeper.

Tonight Keevins summed up the mood in the Celtic camp by highlighting the negative calls from Celtic fans.

We shouldn’t make it that easy for him or the patronising prat that is G dalziel.

I am a fan of your normal confrontational style when you phone them. Please keep up the good work.

Good post. The whininng about every comment Murdo makes is difficult to fathom. He doesn’t rate Beram Kayal all that highly. He has every right – and ample evidence – to back his opinions up.

  17. Watched the wrong uns today, still can’t contribute to the Murdoch empire although I reallyy wanted to see the Manchester derby.

Rangers were unspectacular but solid. Hearts haD way more possession but a 2-0 win at Tynecastle is not to be sniffed at.

It was lovely to hear the old Georgie stadium unite in a chorus of ”One John Wilson”. One Scotland, many cultures.

We have to improve dramatically to win this title. It is so frustrating to see a team with McCulloch, Edu, Wallace so far ahead of us. We have the footballers, they have the warriors. Twas ever thus.

Wanyama, Ledley and Ki should play every game, forsake Beram. Kris Commons if fit, must start.

Not giving up on anything, and still, completely and absolutely, behind Neil Lennon.

  18. voguepunter – I guess he means in a football sense. He must have forgotten the time Newcastle thrashed them 5 – 0 in ’96, closely followed by a humbling by Southamption 6 – 3.

They won the league by 7 points that year……just sayin’.

There is a lot of talk on here about motivation, desire, tempo etc.. I think for all of us who are born and bred Celtic people this sounds ridiculous.. By that I mean .. At what point is pulling on the famous Celtic jersey, working in the same “building”as Walfrid , Mc Grory, Stein,Johnstone , Mc Neil, Mc Stay,Larsson and so many more… At what point do you need to be motivated to aspire to such Legends?? John Thomson DIED playing for Celtic!!!.

It’s a pathetic excuse and an insult to these great men…most on here would play their heart out for nothing…

Rockets need to be fired up several backsides and a daily dose of our esteemed history for the players…a wee “reality check” as Fergus once said..

  20. The Jury's Out on

    FORSTER IS USELESS.

He does NOT inspire confidence in his defence. That’s why they are prone to hesitation – they KNOW they are effectively the last man.

He sat and watched Cha’s pass-back roll towards the line. He made no attempt to dive after it. A guy as tall as that had a better chance than most keepers but he did NOTHING.

I believe Forster is just TOO TALL to be a goal keeper. He is simply too far away from the floor.

Anyone who thinks Forster is going to get better is delusional.

  21. Stokes is in the last chance saloon for the big time both Arsenal and Sunderland seen something in him to justify signing him, today and at Rennes on Thursday he has shown passion in the Jersey, his control and effort in the build up to the first goal was vital in us scoring, keep the effort going Stokesy it is difficult when like today when you are partnered by a lazy big headed non trier vastly overrated Scunthorpe United player, how on earth he stayed on for 90 minutes is baffling

Wanyama had the holding defensive midfield role today, a role he is very good at, i have no idea what positions our other three midfield players where playing, what a tactical shambles.

  22. Competent first half, peering through my fingers because of a migraine.:-(

Second half the team lost their way. After Aberdeen scored it was a bit like Celtic should be. Decent pressure, chances made. After the second goal that urgency dropped off. Why?

    Plenty of room for improvement!

  23. The Jury’s out:

    That’s a very contradictory post.

“He sat and watched Cha’s pass-back roll towards the line. He made no attempt to dive after it. A guy as tall as that had a better chance than most keepers but he did NOTHING.

I believe Forster is just TOO TALL to be a goal keeper. He is simply too far away from the floor.”

So, if I am reading you right he is so tall he should save a backpass along the floor, but too tall to be a good keeper as he is too far away from the floor?

This young man holds a clean sheet record for Celtic.

Agree re Wanyama, however looks like him and Kayal are not suited to the same midfield.

Victor would get the shout for me.

As for Ki, seems he is filling the vacancy left by crosas

Sadly I believe those values and attitudes are a thing of the past. Look at that team today and who do you see with the attributes you mention. All to few really. Stokes maybe, Charlie Mulgrew definately and probably Joe Ledley. Thats it.

And even more alarming, we are reluctant to value those individuals preferring instead to hero worship those who are big on ego but short on committement.

  26. I need a bit of help lads- how do I get these electronic fags to light? Just back from the game and thought we didnt really play until they had equalised- we seemed to go up a gear and should have scored another couple, leaving a slightly nervy finish. We need to take notice of the spate of injuries that we are having this season- Hooper is half fit and we have 4 or five first choicers out, even loosing Glenda today- all this change doesnt help us develop continuity

  27. Vinibhoy - Named Neil Lennon on his birth certificate on

    Evening bhoys.

Not sure what all the pessimism is about?

3 pts, some nice football at times, fair amount of chances created against an Aberdeen team that are doing well in recent weeks.

I think we need to stop the scrutiny of individual players. Players don’t become bad over night. Kayal, Forrest, Ki, Hooper, Forester all coming in for stick. They are all excellent players on their day, loss of form is going to happen.

I’m with Lenny, this team is going to rip someone a new one soon.

    Hail Hail

  28. Dross

He looked in the corner at all the dross,

Filled with players who couldn’t give a toss,

There was so many you couldn’t see the floor,

As Gordon would say “aye that’s for sure”

Tried to get rid of them but who would buy,

Gave them a game even told the odd lie,

Excessive wages that no one could match,

Hindering the process of their dispatch.

Maybe the solution is to set them all free,

To wander the land and sign by degree,

Other clubs would soon pick up this dross,

It’s just a pity that we’d pay the cost.

  29. Tommy Joad,

Good for you sticking up for MacLeod but, to me, you said it all when you mentioned that he works for the Record and Radio Scotland. He knows he will get nowhere in Scotland’s media unless he puts the boot in to Celtic, like the rest of them. Sorry, I can’t agree with you, although I’ll always treasure the goal he scored against them in the League Cup Final. I was right in line with it. A typical rocket from the edge of the box.

It is a given that you won’t get on in this benighted country if you ever give us an even break; ask Walker or Keevins or Provan, to name but three. MacLeod isn’t the worst: that position is held by Nevin.

We need coaching staff who know how to put a team together, we lack positional discipline, we lack a strong spine, our team shape at times is chaotic in particular when we are defending sorry but so frustrated this season with the same faults week in week out

Wanyama and Kayal could be as effective in the present SPL as Lambert and Lennon where for MON when the SPL was a far stronger league

he’s behind tim krul at newcastle who has been one of the best keepers in the prem this season and has played a big part in their excellent start. steve harper is also an excellent keeper. bit harsh to describe him as third choice and unwanted
