  1. valentinesday on

Really enjoyed the game,we were a wee bit

sloppy at the back at times but always looked

like scoring, AS and LG will score a fair amount

of goals in the spfl, don’t know if they will crack

it in the CL……on the down side, that ref? eff me

clueless, and he’s allegedly on of the best, plus

the sheepies brought their vile song book with them.

    CELTIC…5

    (Brown 25, 44, Stokes 53, Commons 69, 87)

    ABERDEEN…2

    (McGinn 28, Logan 56)

DEADLY doubles from Scott Brown and Kris Commons helped Celtic seal a thrilling 5-2 victory over second-placed Aberdeen in Paradise as they continued their march to the 100-points landmark.

The captain struck twice with left-footed shots in the first half either side of Niall McGinn’s counter for the Pittodrie side.

Anthony Stokes scored his 20th goal of the season after the interval to put the Hoops in charge again, but they were quickly pegged back by Shaleum Logan’s superb strike for the visitors.

However, the champions weren’t to be denied as Commons found the net twice to keep the points in Glasgow and reach the 30-goal milestone in a sensational season for the attacker.

Now sitting on 95 points, Neil Lennon’s men know two victories next week against St Johnstone and Dundee United will see them amass more than a century of points for the first time since Martin O’Neill’s reign.

After last week’s 6-0 trouncing of Inverness Caley Thistle, the manager had understandably kept faith with the same starting XI for the visit of the Dons.

And as the two top teams in Scottish football squared up, there was an absorbing opening to proceedings as the game flowed from end-to-end.

Charlie Mulgrew had to make a timely intervention to deny Adam Rooney at the edge of the box after a patient passage of play from the visitors.

Celtic then broke quickly, and only a last-ditch block from Logan denied Stefan Johansen as the Norwegian attempted to pull the trigger after being picked out by Anthony Stokes.

Top scorer Commons was next to try his luck, fizzing a shot narrowly wide from an acute angle after Griffiths had teed him up.

The lively McGinn and Stokes shot wide at each end, and then Commons headed over as the pattern of play continued.

However, harassing Aberdeen at every opportunity, Celtic were growing in ascendancy and they broke the deadlock through Brown.

Cutting inside the box from the right, the skipper took aim and buried a shot beyond Jamie Langfield for his first goal since 7-0 rout of Hearts on December 1.

The Hoops had worked hard for their lead but a defensive error from Matthews allowed Derek McInnes’ men to draw level three minutes later.

The full-back’s back-pass was too short for Fraser Forster and a grateful McGinn capitalised, rounding the Englishman and rolling the ball into the empty net.

It took the Bhoys around 10 minutes to recover from that setback and rediscover their earlier fluency, and as half-time approached they started to threaten again.

After a neat interchange of passing, Commons’ venomous drive from 18 yards stung the hands of Langfield, who took two attempts to gather the ball.

But just before the interval he was beaten for a second time as Brown bagged his brace. Atoning for his earlier mistake, Matthews reached the byline and found the midfielder with a precise cutback.

Moving the ball on to his left-foot, Brown crafted a yard of space and made no mistake, slamming a low shot into the net.

And eight minutes after the break, the Hoops increased their advantage as Stokes continued his red-hot form in front of goal. Reacting fastest to Mulgrew’s shot, the Irishman stabbed home at the near post.

Just moments earlier, Forster had been called into action by a trademark Barry Robson strike from distance and they were in mood to submit.

And, just like in the first-half, they mustered up a swift response as full-back Logan found the far corner with a stunning strike from distance.

A piece of ingenuity from Commons almost saw the Bhoys restore their two-goal cushion. Holding off one defender and then dancing away from another challenge, his delicate chip forced Langfield into a fingertip save.

The match was still delicately poised and the Dons felt they had a good claim for a penalty as Jonny Hayes went tumbling in the box from Efe Ambrose’s tackle. However, referee Iain Brines was unmoved.

And midway through the half, Celtic pulled further ahead as Stokes slipped a pass into Commons’ path and he finished emphatically into the corner.

Willo Flood’s accurate drive hit the post as the Pittodrie side threw more men forward in the closing stages but Commons ended their plucky resistance three minutes from time.

Substitute Beram Kayal found the 30-year-old with a lovely reserve pass and he applied the finish to reach 30 goals for the season as Celtic cruised to another stylish victory.

CELTIC (4-3-1-2) Forster; Matthews, Ambrose, Van Dijk, Izaguirre, Brown, Mulgrew, Johansen (Kayal 83); Commons (Henderson); Stokes Grififths (Lustig 83)

  7. Pogmathonyahun aka Laird of the Smiles on

I watched the game as usual, on Celtic TV, and after each goal when the camera moved on to Lenny he didn’t seem to celebrate and in fact appeared somewhat glum. Is something brewing or was that just my imagination?

The best rendition ever of ‘Sailing’ was on a overloaded Renfrew Ferry after the Love St league win. The Whitecrook, Knightswood and Yoker rebels went mental on the Clyde that night. :)) Happy Days.

  10. Well I liked the Celtic Way we do it today :-)

    This Armageddon, I love it

Nice to walk the Way right into the CQN Huddle Way, which was busy today :-)

    Nice to see you all

    Hail Hail

Gene, aye that probably explains it! A bit like Grasshopper and his milky-eyed mentor!

  12. Just who is the A hole that keeps sticking up for Hugh Keevins? Out with the mrs today so relied on Clyde commentary. Dons equalise and Keevins waxes lyrical about how the Dons are now a major threat to Celtic and how they’re going for 3 in a row……aaaarrrrssss hole of the highest order….better still…..the pundits were all talking about the HIGH crowds and it’s great for Scoddish Fitba’……they have CLEARLY forgotten their predictictions of Armageddon……..aaaaarrrrrrsssssoooollllleeeeesssss

  13. Good day out and Celtic Way looks great and club crest very impressive, but, isn’t it too near the road?

Does anyone think these things through?

only seen it on-line but having it at the begining seems to say you are now entering the Celtic Way. As you get closer to the stadium you are met with the facade and of course the various statues so at that point your eyes are raised.

    Good evening all

A brilliant day between a meet up with some fine CQNrs at the ole gazebo, then a thoroughly entertaining game. Great meeting you all new and old. :-))

pfayr, have those suspicions myself but people on here say they have met him.

  20. Gold Coast Tom @ 17:09…

The applause which swept around the stadium was the Celtic fans responding to the chant “stand up for the champions” which sprung up in the Lisbon Lions stand.

  21. Thanks to all for a lot of updates today, everybody should be happy with that,2 good teams putting out a good footballing game. As it’s 12 30 here I’ll look forward to seeing the goals in the morning GG. Got them at 04 30 your time last week.

Also deserving thanks this week are the politcos for giving us a free afternoon to enjoy the Celtic doing their stuff after refusing to let us enjoy the game last week. It was a hard time getting updates through so thanks again to those that did for persevering.

    Have a good weekend everybody.

It certainly was a fine day at Celtic Park today …. we are very fortunate to support an incorruptible Club …… when you think about it, we have overcome the most sinister of ‘barriers’ in this Country, AND WE HAVE COME OUT AT THE OTHER END ALL THE STRONGER FOR IT….!!!!!!!!
