  1. Being unsociable in the pub, but anyway some observations:-

Great family day out in beautiful weather.

Great to see so many familiar faces in 441

The Celtic away top is soooooo popular, especially with woman and children.

I think we have utilised some green paint on the railings etc, but the yellow paint for the lines must have been out of stock.

We really need to optimise our full potential on a magnificent setting. Pre match entertainment and facilities for all should be a priority.

Utilise one of the car parks for pop up bars, bouncy castles, toilet facilities, cafes etc.

So many positives on and off the park. I really feel we have the teams to improve both.

    HH.

PS : When coming out of the ground I heard a police man and woman shout at a man, run after him then produce a PHONE. Selfies were the order of the day.

I never caught who the man was.

  2. At times, the football in the first half was exhilarating, and Jota’s flick over the defender was sheer class, and worth going to the match for that alone. A real star!! The second half was less so but it still was a great workout. Being able to see the whole pitch showed there was a distinct lack of movement from the “2nd Eleven” which led to our playing out from the back being put under severe pressure, saying that though, big Lawal looked cumbersome with the ball at his feet, hopefully, that can be rectified, but I doubt it. Can’t wait to see the first-half team, plus a few others when the season starts for real It will be a joy to watch, por cierto,

You said “Everything seems to come from the training sessions / sidelines — not good.”

And to think you were bitching about the lack of coaching the other week—– not good.

    I agree with you L14

If a poster can’t be arsed to make their contribution easy to read then why put the effort in to read it – I don’t.

  7. proverbial game of 2 halves.

not sure if our new player Bernabei is a left back , wonders out of position and leaves acres of space behind him ,seams to prefer moving inside and taking people on , Julien is in my opinion just julien , first involvement leads to a free kick that they score from , needs to move on, a waste of £7m , his young centre back partner looks very raw and very wasteful in his passing will probably find his own level but doubt if it will be with us.

we will have to strengthen at the back or we will get slaughtered in Europe.

  8. Christopher Jullien got a big cheer when he came on.

I really hope he is not playing us.

  9. oh and by the way someone mentioned a few weeks ago that the external the stadium needs a painting upgrade , he wasn’t wrong , outside looking very shabby.

But he has no excuse now with his wee copy and paste tutorial and list of players!!!

    BL — Out on loan?

Not really sure on that one.

The question then becomes — who will be the CB pairing for the B team?

OU is 22/23 — now or never with us.

BL is 18/19 so has a huge amount of learning / growing up to do.

Probably prefer if he stayed local next season.

The big question is how much development does LH do at LU next season?

  13. RC on 16TH JULY 2022 3:23 PM

    Bernabei reminds me of Izzy.

Will be good going forward but not at the races defensively.

    Hope Ange can improve that.

    Agree 100%

Problem is, as soon as that happens, Celtic cyberspace will be full of complaints like – More ways for the board to fleece the support.

Can you walk and chew gum at the same time?

You might like to give it a try — might help explain my point.

The pre-season coaching is raising our game quite a bit — saw that today.

The issue is that we need to make decisions on the park when they have the ball.

To me we aren’t doing enough of that.

AP can’t give the team answers for everything.

Cheers bud, yes we had a good wee day. Left him and the 3 amigos, BRRB, Friesforder & Leegy to wait for a Taxi and head into town, por cierto

    Toilets vs fleecing the supporters?

Would you have to pay for them?

Ryanair going to buy the club?

MO’L vs DD — Discuss who is / would be the more dangerous?

  18. Think Lawal is 19, As well as stepping up to Senior Football, he has to learn to play the passing possession game as well.

Ange must see something in him, he is getting a run in most games.

The plan seems to be to get the B Team doing a similar training programme and play a similar style as first team. Both teams will train at Lennoxtown,

That will make stepping up a bit easier.

Lawal is not ready for first team nor is Vata.

Would like to see them & other prospects get their turn on the bench and if we are 3 or 4 up in a League game get a bit of game time,

However we definitely need to open the purse strings for a Central Defender or two,

  19. On Bernabei

Tim Vickery had this to say

What does he bring to Ange Postecoglou’s team? A quick little left-back. He’s not going to defend like Danny McGrain, that’s not his game.

What he does give you is terrific pace, with a lovely left foot, which can be very useful for set-pieces. I think there is an eye for a goal in him as well and a player who can get in at the far post and open up the pitch.

He will have to adapt to extra physicality. The Argentine league is physical, but you look at the players and they are smaller than most of the players he will face in Scotland, but what I’ve seen leads me to the conclusion that he has the potential to take this step and maybe steps beyond as well.

The Champions League puts him in the spotlight. If Celtic weren’t there, I don’t think he would be there and perhaps there wouldn’t be the finance either. I was surprised to hear that this was the first Argentine to sign for Celtic and, if he succeeds, he won’t be the last.

Watching him in the friendlies so far, I think Vickery has been spot on.

The problem Celtic will have is asking him to play against elite clubs in the Champion League where he will have to play in a style that isn’t suited to his game, where he has to sit back mostly and defend, rather than charge forward.

  20. Of the subs today only Ralston and Maeda got with the flow- the rest did not try hard enough or were too nervous/ anxious

The good news is we dominated Blackburn to the hour mark- absolutely dominated- even though it was only 2:1

Still excited by the Ange team season two- good to watch.

  21. Tom,

I feel strongly that we have not ( to date ) optimised our full potential.

Celtic Park in the sun is a magnificent setting. But it can be better, much better.

Earlier today we discussed Tottenham’ s magnificent stadium. A billion pound stadium. But here’s the thing.

I would wager they don’t have such an impressive approach as the Celtic way. I would also wager they don’t have the surrounding land to facilitate a match day carnival experience.

Not many clubs can match our natural potential.

I hope and trust we will grow, both ond off the park.

    HH.

  22. MADMITCH on 16TH JULY 2022 3:33 PM

Lawal has to be tested at a higher level than the fifth tier of Scottish football.

Who plays centre half in the Lowland League is incidental to a player needing matches at a higher level to see what he has to offer as a future Celtic first team player.

The jump from playing against plumbers, brickies, welders and plasterers of Stirling Uni, Tranent Juniors, Civil Service Strollers and Open Goal Broomhill to then competing against full time professionals is massive.

We should loan out every player who has a real chance to the highest level possible.

How else can we find out who has the ability required?

  23. TMcL @ 3.50

You are the one claiming that any fan based upgrade to the surrounding would be seen by the support as the board fleecing them.

I don’t think that would be the case.

Even if it was any limited pushback — the vast majority would support it / engage with it.

All it needs is ideas / drive / ambition / understanding.

Stuff that our current board are sadly lacking in.

Surely they can see the revenue potential.

As noted we have a big site to work on.

  24. MM

The kinda player you are talking about are way above our paygrade, Ange has to do the best he can with the level of player he has, silk purse and sows ear spring to mind, and IMO he is doing a superb job with what he has at his disposal.

  25. L14 @ 3.56

So what development would we do in-house?

If every player was loaned out at the earliest opportunity?

He does not play as if he has had much experience at a higher level than the B team.

The comparison between him and OU is stark.

And OU didn’t get his advantage in the last 6 months.

  26. If we want to upgrade the Stadium and have good facilities, them Shareholders need to step to the plate and tell this old man board that enough is enough and if they don’t do anything then have the guts to tell them to resign, personally I think the shareholders have been giving them a easy ride .

  27. TET @ 3.59

You do our squad a disservice with your comments.

You do our coaching a scouting staff a disservice as well.

    Down negative man — down.

  28. Don’t care much for McIlroy would rather have Lowry win the open ,he is more of a Irish Man than McIlroy .

  29. MM

How in effs name do you come to that conclusion ?

The most negative poster on here is you BTW, I would wager that 99% of the posters on here would agree with that.
