Spot on with your post last night re the Scottish FArce Cup semi-final.

I personally wouldnae go oot the back tae see it, and the gogglebox will be staying off anaw, just like the first time we ever played Sevco.

On a cheerier note, although they are strong favourites to win today, maybe the combination of the pressure of being unable to afford no slip-ups, and the disappointment at the way our 7 point lead has so quickly opened up, might affect the sheep’s performance adversely, with even a draw being pretty much a disaster for them today.

That’s another bonus from yesterday’s great result, apart from seeing the amazing potential of PR, the spirit to come back against a team playing well with the early goal to help, and the willingness to stand up to them physically.

  2. Double negative, there, shooorly!

    Able to afford no slip-ups.

Don’t want GFTB pulling me up for my grammar being badder than it should be!

I understand why you signed up to the resolution, but the actual words of the resolution were to have the Celtic board take the entire situation to UEFA/CFCB and initially it looked as if what would happen would be exactly as you had anticipated — namely that there would have been a right good barney in the Kerrydale with the board saying they had taken this up with the SFA etc and shareholders yelling at them telling them they had not done enough, that Rangers had cheated and so on and so forth.

As you say, the resolution would have been voted down and we would all have gone home.

Except, that what happened was that before then – for good or for bad — Celtic were able to deminstrate that long before the resolution they had written to Regan asking for explanation as to how the licence had been granted and had received a response and so on which seemed to get the SFA off the hook.

On that basis, the board were effectively saying, “Look there is no need for this resolution because we are already on the case etc etc.”

Except, that prior to the AGM we were able to point out that there were, but they weren’t! They had made enquiries and had challenged the SFA and they had received replies. However, when taking those things together, with certain other information that Celtic did not have at that juncture, we were able to persuade them that there was a legal argument whuch should be pursued further. This meant writing further letters, asking further questions and questioning the replies that had been received as at that date.

It also meant contrasting one set of footballing rules with another — a somewhat complicated exercise — and suggesting that the whole thing be looked at in a different way and from a different angle.

At the end of the day, the board of Celtic PLC essentially said ” Do you know what? You’re right — there are explanations required and we will go and ask the questions.”

Now, at that point there was no point in them continuing to oppose the resolution and no point in doing anything other than adjourning.

Any debate on the board pursuing a financial policy which involves gearing towards the benefits of playing a Rangers team in future is a separate issue to Res 12 — and in that regard there may be separate questions to be asked. As I recall, at the same AGM, The Battered Bunnet asked a great question about the stock piling of cash for no good reason and suggested that the money be spent on bloody good players instead.

3 years on I am still waiting for a reasonable reply to that question.

Anyway, that is why the resolution was adjourned and why you did not get your debate from the floor.

If you were to ask me should you be able to have such a debate, my answer is yes but in a PLC format the company are only obliged to hold one general meeting per year by law.

Since then, the board have started to have other meetings where they explain policy, business decisions and all that sort of stuff but they are select in who they invite to such meetings. They write to the CSA, CST and others and get them in.

Personally I think there is a better way to do that but hey that is just my personal opinion.

By the way, I am not on the guest list for these events though others are.

With regard to the funding element, to be honest it was me who suggested/insisted/demanded/persuaded the others that if we were representing Celtic shareholders then we would do it as professionally and expertly as possible.

In that regard we consulted professionals as necessary and very deliberately wanted to show both the Celtic PLC board and the SFA that we should be taken seriously, were not just some rabble mob who were just angry or annoyed, but that were representative of a support with a genuine grievance which we could articulate, evidence and present in a fashion which would stand up to any judicial scrutiny.

In short — we were not for wee boys to play with and dismiss lightly. We knew the rules, and more importantly we knew who were bound by those same rules and what they were bound to do in any given circumstances.

So , we went to lawyers and accountants. When that was suggested — and it was never even considered at the outset of Res 12 — initially one of our number said he would meet any initial cost. Subsequently, when there were additional costs, others offered to pay these.

We are not talking huge costs here as every attempt is being made keep these down, because we try and do our own spadework and donkey work in our own time and so present a finished product and strategy to the lawyers and everyone else at each stage.

With respect, no one is paying any bill on your behalf — they have simply decided that they will fund whatever needs funded because they are involved at the very coalface of Res 12. However, if we were to go to court etc there is no prospect of them being able to do that as we would be talking about tens of thousands of pounds at least.

Incidentally, on a separate but related matter, at one point there was talk of funding a documentary or a series of short films on this.

That may come to pass at some point in the future but for the moment we will concentrate on the business in hand.

I note you agree that the matter should go to UEFA and where we are just now is that we are concentrating on just how that is going to be done. There were those who have resisted this process who have now been brought on board.

There may be others yet who will see that the initial gut instinct of guys like yourself were right on certain topics — and that resisting the inevitable is both stupid and potentially damaging. They would be better advised to get on board the bus than be run over by it running at full speed — and then possibly reversing up in preparation for another go!

Great story re Larkhall and George Thom — but I think it is likely to be a different guy. The one I am talking about was someone I used to play football against occasionally many years ago and I don’t think he worked in Larkhall and I am pretty sure he always worked in housing or local government.

    Cheers

Was Madone trying to give Aberdeen a wee helping (red) hand by sending off Oshaniwa yesterday, or are Hearts not playing Aberdeen in their next game ?

I made the pilgrimage 40 years ago this July.

I jumped on a tram, got off at the terminus (sorry, can’t remember which line), and then walked through the woods, with the stadium appearing as you get to a clearing.

    Amazing feeling.

A unique setting for a unique accomplishment.

I even got a piece of the turf once inside, but once back home, when I carefully brought it out in the pub to show it off, all I got was “Lisbon, my arse! That’s oot yer back gairden!”

Does anyone know if sky usually rerun the match?

I tried to check that out last night, since I had to leave the game a wee bit early, but to no avail …. And it’s not on catch-up either…… Bummer ….hehe …. HH

  8. 67Heaven, Hertz are playing ICT on Tuesday so I assume automatic suspension would kick in for that game, leaving him free to play against The Sheep.

If Res 12 is allowed to run its course. If it gets backed to the hilt by those who should back it and the rules are applied as they were clearly written and intended — trust me — you will not need to listen to such broadcasting guff in the future.

Or if you do, you will damn near die laughing at every turn.

See Red Telephone’s post — and I would concur — The George Thom we were talking about is a lovely fella though I don’t profess to know him that well but class shines out even during the briefest of encounters.

Thank you for keeping us up to date and for all your hard work. Thanks also to the other requisitioners for their efforts.

If there comes a time when you guys need support, be it financial or foot soldiers, just post your requirements.

    May your hand never weaken.

  14. Morning all.

Just been reading Andrew Smith in Scotland on Sunday’s report of the game. He, for one, recognises that the Hearts player deliberately head-butted Rogic. (He also has a wee go at the SFA not wanting to strip the deid team of it’s trophies in his Stramash column.)

  16. Good result yesterday, solid performance in the second half. A wee mention for GMS who put a pile of work in and needs to continue to improve his concentration and upper body strength. PR now getting the feel for Celtic and will help drive us over the line. SB still struggling with his fitness but giving everything he’s got.

    Their grammar is fine.

They were singing ‘ewes’, due to their unwelcome association with the wooly critters.

Anyway, they haven’t sung that wee ditty since 2012, obviously!

They also had a very funny one about a certain Rangers (1872-2012) player’s wife, in response to a well-known wind-up Aberdeen supporters chant getting the treatment at the Crumbledome.

Not for a Sunday morning on here mind.

Wee yin just got her Euro 16 panini album…..no stickers ????

Any excuse to act like a child, told her it’s a geography lesson, so far her favourite players are Paul Pogba & Fellaini (or funny hair guy as she calls him) ….. She just said where is Leigh Griffitha, slowly but surely she is learning …..

  19. BRTH . The fact remains that the board refuse to take the issue to UEFA and can offer no explanation as to why they won’t? Correct?

  20. Captain Beefheart on

Another week passes without Emilio moaning to the press about his position. Class guy. Got some good memories of his attacking work for Celtic. KT is the future though.

Regarding the debate about teachers, they do a fine job. So do many others in society though. Most don’t get the same amount of respect, holidays, security or money that teachers get.

Correct ….I SUSPECT it could be that one could be forgiven for ‘predicting a riot’ if our Board took it to UEFA ? ….I hasten to add that I don’t agree with that strategy, though …… our Board should have taken it to UEFA long before now….

    BRTH,

Yes to the names last night. I’d forgot about Jerome, quite a character. The more I think back I’m sure we must have played at the same time of a Monday night after work.

Macjay, anybody working with the vulnerable in society is liable to false accusations nowadays. Happened to a Spanish friend of mine. Lovely guy. He didn’t understand that in Britain we are paranoid about child abuse. Of course he did nothing wrong and the child admitted to telling lies but life was hell for his girlfriend and him for a month. Thankfully he remains at work now.

  27. Morning All, Thanks for the Birthday wishes.

Having a quiet morning then off to Inverness tomorrow for a few days with the family.

Prestonpans Bhoy, the pleasure was mine.

I won’t list the names, although I do like a list, for fear of missing someone.

We played well yesterday and got a great result, Kieran is a great prospect, as is Paddy Roberts.

    ‘Mon Hamilton!

  28. 67heaven perhaps. But that form of appeasment never works. And in any case where is the leadership?

Seems however they have no problem whatsoever in actively lobbying the Scottish government to prevent supporters have any say in how thei club is run.

  29. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

The level of stress on those working in Public Services today is enormous.

They see the tragic need in people struggling to survive, yet, due to restraints and lack of resources, are limited in the help they can offer.

This causes anger on one side and frustration on the other and does nothing towards creating a positive work experience or job satisfaction.

Teachers, in some deprived areas, also experience stress, due to perhaps different reasons.

Tired and hungry children are a common condition in some schools.

This is tackled partially by breakfast clubs, which at least ensures that the children at least have food inside them.

Tiredness is another issue, less easily dealt with.

Utmost respect to those who give their all in those circumstances.
