    The “partnership” between Effe and Callum does not work.

     

    It does not even look like it is something that can be developed…..really hope to get those words flung back at me 1 day but i doubt it.

     

    With the injuries to Lustig, Mathews and Forrest……the choices are limited though :(

    stokesy and izzy were superb down the left, some great link up play and also some suberb crosses by izzy into the box, hope RD sticks with those two there.

     

     

    denayer, i guess was subbed due to his booking which i think as his first foul was a bit harsh, a good header of the ball, the lhad will go far.

     

     

    efe needs a rest, play going through him often slowed down as he had to stop and turn back, hopefully wee jamesy and / or lustig back soon. johansen was for me a weak link tonight, i’d like to see biton in beside broonie (who also was imense tonight.

     

     

    guidetti has some great movement, now he’s got his first goal i expect a barrowload from him, hopefully we have a definite option to buy.?

    Agreed, Efe not being able to cross means no point in overlap, leaving no room for Callum to exploit inside(which he can, well). Said at halftime, need to have more of a footballing fullback along side.

    I have always been a fan of Efe. Now, though, he is playing with the lack of confidence I would expect from any normal human being whose every mistake is highlighted but who seldom is praised for the good work he does. When Lustig/Matthews is fit, I suspect there will be limited game time for Efe as Denayer and van Dyke will probably be our centre pairing and, as Efe is not a crosser of the ball, he will be out. At the moment, our main threat comes from the left. With the return of one of Lustig, Matthews or Forrest, we will have potent threats down both flanks.

    First half I didn’t see much – second half we looked like we should always look when playing Scottish teams

     

    But had they scored from Pen ??

    Jungle Jim, as I said a few posts back, Izzy had a v. Good game tonight, he and Stokes linked up very well, and put effective crosses into dangerous areas.

     

    Confidence is huge for players who take risks. Hopefully this will help build his.

    No more than an expected – a competent performance and win. Can’t say we took them apart – pen & og?

     

     

    Same old midfield problem – need a Lubo or Maestro type player (I wish).

     

     

    A good result – though to the 1/4s – much improvement needed!

     

     

    A deserved nod to Izzy for his contribution tonight.

    Good decision to sub Denayer…..the way Willie the Croupier Colum was dealing

     

    out the yellow cards, we probably would have ended up with 10 men.

     

    Positives were Stokes and Izzy down the left, though Izzy’s ridiculous pass back

     

    should have cost us a goal.

     

    Pleased with Guidette and Broony.

     

    Some passing at times was slack from Johansen and young Callum who was caught

     

    offside too often.

     

    RIP Johnny D .Watched him often in the 60’s…a great mud lark….heavy going suited him.

     

    Been in his company and know that Yogi will be vexed. Condolences to his family and to Yogi Jr .his godson.

     

    Johnny will make it with the Celestial Celtic.

    Decent result tonight, which turned into a bounce game late on.

     

     

    Pleased that RD finally seems to be learning from mistakes, and avoided the loaded post match questions.

     

     

    When Charlie M is fit, we will have a decent core, with tonight’s back four, Scott and Charlie in centre of midfield , and then four out of Kris, Jamesy, Wakaso, Stokesy, Guidetti and Scepovic, McGregor, Tonev and Griffiths.

    Missed the game due to work. Decent result. Still a crap cup though.

     

     

    Stokes remains a weak link.

     

     

    I am looking forward to us hopefully defeating the Zagreb mob.

    This system still places too much strain on the centre mids

     

    Both Brown and Johansen will be cream cracker end by Christmas if it continues

     

    Izzy’s work rate made Stokes look much better than he actually was

     

    AS never works back to cover and shies away from any physical contact

     

     

    JG and SS are penalty box players and will look poor if they are forced to constantly come deep,out of the box because we insist on playing in front of teams

     

    We need more pace down the wings and far more crosses in to the box

     

    First and third goals came from crosses played in to the box

     

    In Scotland opposition teams will give the ball back to you if you make them play in places they don’t want to – e.g. behind them !

     

     

    It ain’t rocket science -keep it simple and do it often instead of trying to make 30 passes going nowhere!

    CaptainBeefheart, Stokes was our best player tonight, IMO.

     

    He played very well. Effective going forward, and supported Izzy well, one poor pass gave Hearts a very good chance late in the first half, but he is still adapting to playing wide.

     

    He did fine.
