  1. Just back from Siberia. The benefit of 18k mugs rather than 60k is the traffic is practically non existent.

A game of 2 halves. Slow and ponderous in the first. High tempo in the second. The difference, Odsonne Edouard. Has possibly played his way into starting 11 next week. Ntcham played further forward in second half, leaving Broonie as the sole sitting midfielder. Both wide men played well and Moussa now looking like the £20m player we had last season.

Compper, aside from one slack pass, very cool and composed on the ball. Not sure if he has any pace, never needed to run as he always seemed to be in the right place at the right time.

I think Edouard and McGregor may start next week ahead of Sinclair and Rogic.

thanks lymmbhoy bonfigli – didn’t see the match – great to see OE has made a break through performance; it can take a while to get your eye in for the pace of scottish football

  3. NEIL LENNON & MCCARTNEY on 3RD MARCH 2018 2:44 PM

Edouard possibly, Roberts no chance. Leicester want him as part of Maher’s to City deal which will be resurrected in the summer.

  4. NEIL LENNON &MCCARTNEY@3-00 PM

    What a ridiculous response!!!

You know full well i was referring to your suggestion that Celtic were saving the money to sign Edouard and Roberts.

There was no mention of Brendan.

  5. Our penalty today can be filed away in the “honest mistake ” box, in the folder with the “these things even themselves out over the season” folder.

Except that the game was pretty much won at 1-0. We’ll get these decisions when they won’t affect the outcome of the game.

I would pay the 7m ( euro’s ? ) for Odsonne. Especially if Big Mouusa leaves in the summer.

  6. Oops. Too many folders in the last post.

More ammunition for the introduction of an “edit” facility here.

  7. glendalystonsils on

    My tuppence worth on Sinclair.

Did his best work in defence, so credit to him for working back BUT going forward didn’t want to get past a defender and seemed to want to rid himself of the ball (and responsibility) ASAP ,on a couple of occasions rushing a pass straight to a Morton player. Therefore he is not playing to his strengths.

Helping in defence, there is less expected of him but going forward he seems strangely out of his comfort zone and seems to have lost confidence.

  8. It was screaming out to go two up front second half, credit to Brendan, he changed it and it made a huge difference. We could have scored three goals within 10 minutes of the restart, each chance as a result of two strikers bring close together and in the box. I would play Edouard next week, no guarantee he will perform but he deserves the chance. He has a lot in his locker, just lacking the final finish at times. Dembele thrived playing with him too.

Overall, job done after a labourer first half.

  9. glendalystonsils on

I don’t know why we seem to start games so slowly. The missus (who doesn’t know a lot about football) after catching a couple of minutes of the first half said ” they look very lethargic”.

The number of times I’ve heard Brendan Rodgers post match saying that the tempo was too slow first half but we picked up the pace in the second half.

  10. Mark Mc Ghee

    Jesus wept.

He may be fat and round and worth a million pounds but he has the charisma and presence of

    Fr Paul Stone.

Well done the Celtic. Pay for OE now, get the deal done.

    Safe home boys and girls.

  11. Hi Bhoys

A lot of people looking for us to be more direct may have a point.

Watch our third goal again it comes from a by kick from DDV.

He kicks it long 8 Celtic touches later bang it’s in the onion bag.

    Crackin goal.

    KEEP THE FAITH

  12. TONYROME on 3RD MARCH 2018 3:58 PM

Third goal, Edouard does well controlling and laying off DDV’s long ball but it was Brown pass into space for Forrest to run onto that created it.

When we play Dembele and Edouard then the longer ball is an option, Edouard’s goal v Hearts came from long ball to Dembele who controlled and played him through.

  13. 16 roads - Celtic über alles... on

That’s what Sean Fallon said about the Lions – always started games on the front foot. Every single action when they had possession was done double quick.

Just start each game on a high tempo, continue and even increase the tempo.

The slow, ponderous build up is difficult to control or increase the pace of the play once the opposition has been allowed to settle.

Always in a rush to get moving the Lions were, even at throw-ins.

  14. A day for the diehard with a vengeance Celtic fan and our side on the proverbial hiding to nothing, against lower league opposition, staggering, frozen and slumping into the latest semi final under BR.

So with no chance ever of a spectacle it took us till the second half to get over the officially Baltic wind chill factor, colder than a miserly Morton back Ten, it was James Forrest the man, again the only Celt capable of beating other men, till Tom Rogic played the perfectly weighted ball, and like last week Moussa got his header under a despairing cross bar.

This was the breakthrough no amount Bovril couldn’t provide, and game over, the other goals were a bonus, though Odsonne Edouard must sure have played himself into contention to start a game again, as his presence in an altered system in the second half improved the goal threat no end, proved by his late well taken shift and strike .

It seems with Mikael Lustig and Dedryk Boyata out, BR used the cup tie to shoe in a new centre back, against the new club at Ibrokes? but Marvin Comperr was completely untested in this game., after he perfectly played in ex Celtic Michael Tidser, which fortunately ended in nothing, but Morton’s solitary corner.

So it’ll be an interesting choice with Christian Gamboa the only other option who could make up a more recognisable back four, with Celtic going for all three points as normal, in the hope of reversing the last Sevco 0-0 defeat .

    M.O.M James Forrest

  15. CultsBhoy- Last of the famous international PlayBhoys on

Agree we need to be more direct more often.

I can see the need to play the side to side possession football when we are in a Chess like situation against similar or superior standard opponents . I even see the need to practice it in preparation for these games. The reality is in domestic football we are facing inferior competition most games. Therefore the more direct approach should be deployed initially to get the goals. After which we can indulge the side to side possession stuff.

I find some of our side passing unnecessary and frustrating.

  16. 16 roads - Celtic über alles... on

In saying that, when one looks back at the scale and sheer volume of injuries to our most important footballers, that we have had to contend with – it’s quite remarkable that the club finds itself still top of the league, LC in the bag and last four of the cup.

I don’t know of any club in world football that could cope with all those set backs as well as Celtic have.

You can see the improvement in some of our play – likes of Moussa and Tom Rogic demonstrating that extra little bit of class that was perhaps lacking recently.

Top dhogs such as LG, Armstrong and Patrick Roberts set to return to the fray very soon, adding more quality and strength to the squad.

Wee James Forrest player of the year so far – carried the team when through some difficult times.

    HH.

  17. 16 Roads,

If memory serves me well (which it may well not do) the Lions weren’t any different to any other Celtic team I’ve watched. They weren’t good at shys.

  18. Davidopoulos on

    Credit to Morton…actually, wait no…

Their pack the defence with every single player you have on the pitch attitude is part of the same Scottish football tactical fetish as “get the ball up the park!”. Even during the dull first half I was certain there was only one winner in the match…mostly because there was only one team participating in the match. If Scottish football is ever to progress we have to stop applauding packed defences, stop cheering because someone just thundered into a crunching tackle and stop shouting “get rid ae it” when a defender has the ball.

    Bah-humbug? Yes, very bah-humbug.

    Only joking…no am no

    Well done Celtic.

  19. 16 roads - Celtic über alles... on

PARKHEADCUMSALFORD – Not what I was trying to say.

What I mean is that the Lions were always in a rush to get the ball moving forward asap – even from shys.

Can’t tell you whether the shys were good our not.

If you start off slowly, and the opposition score – it is very difficult to increase the tempo, and easier for them to take control of the game.

It’s just something Sean Fallon said in his book that stuck in my mind, and I happen to agree with.

  20. Just a wee Memory of my Great Friend EDB, l first met Jim through work round about 1979, we immediately struck up a friendship that lasted right through to having the Honour of Carrying Him to His Final Resting Place.

Through out those years l was priveliged to meet Moira, Kerri, and Meghan, and of course Robbie the dog.

Our love of all things Celtic was always the Topic of Conversation to the extent when we moved back to Celtic Park he purchased the seat behind me( which is being carried on with Meghan,) now everyone who met Jim, or on the blog, will realise at times he could be a bit of a Bhoy, sometimes controversial, very funny, very kind, and good all round Guy.

We had some great times watching Celtic especially The Seville Season when we along with two more friends made the Pilgrimage, it was always a standing joke that we were invited to Meghans first Communion long before we were making the journey to Seville and l said, great stuff and the following Monday Morning we will head for Seville, when Jim said Aye that will be right.

Well as we now know that became a reality and indeed we celebrated not only Meghans big Day, but left his house about Midnight on the Sunday, to be back at 0600 On the Monday Morning where we carried on partying all the way to Rota where we were Staying before travelling up for the Final.

We all had a great few days staying in the Same hotel as Joe Miller and his friends which turned into a pool party with Joe providing the music.

The Stories and Memories are great to look back on

Jim, may you rest in Peace with your beloved Moira in Paradise.

  21. Dumb tackle in 06th minute costs Bournemouth a point at Leicester.

Mahrez scores good goal from resulting free.

  22. 96TH MINUTE SHOULD SAY.

There was 4 minutes added but ref extended time.

    Eddie Howe will be livid.

Just listened to sportscene saying that the score flattered Celtic. Went to look at the game stats because l couldn’t remember a shot on target, guess what there was one and I missed it. Morton had five shots, one on target and those goons on the BBC say it flattered us, Jings give us peace.

  24. PRESTONPANS BHOYS,

BBC Scotland’s sports department have been in overdrive trying to undermine us today but at least Chick had the honesty to say we did deserve to win.

    Best of luck.

  26. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

Me and Wee BGFC enjoyed the game today.

Changed to another seat in second half due to Morton reversing our normal direction at the kick-off (boo).

Noted their inverted Hun black-topped red socks (double boo).

Also their orange and blue goal-keeper jumper (triple boo).

Last stroke for me was their their wee-club renditions of “Hello, Hello” (that’s it settled – definite Huns).

Remembered why I always supported St Mirren in their derby.

    Glad we pumped them.

Onwards to Snake Mountain next week.

    Hail, Hail
