I was on Mull for a week a few years ago. Great place for a break, if you get the weather, which I did. Iona is well worth a visit, but if the weather is good I would recommend a boat trip to Staffa. Well worth seeing, fingals cave and wee puffins. I used these guys, great service.

  8. My friends in Celtic,

The best thing that can be said about last night is that we are through to the next round. This tournament has run its course for our top teams. If anybody doubts this just check how many supporters actually paid to attend Parkhead. ( although I thought the crowd was greater than 13k ).

If we must compete then Imo we should voluntarily play our under 21’s only. Currently we gain absolutely nothing from a game such as last night. In fact it can be a negative experience for prospective signings and our potential/ current sponsors..

    HH.

Ps: maybe it was the sparse crowd, or the competition to see who had the bigger drum ( the GB or their counterparts who had relocated to the NW corner of the JS stand ) but I thought the PA system sounded crystal clear.

RANGERS have denied reports that former chief executive Charles Green has attempted to claim legal fees from the club as he fights charges of serious organised crime connected to the 2012 takeover of the Ibrox club.

Green, one of a number of figures investigated as part of the probe, has been charged with fraud, conspiracy and an offence under Section 190 of the Companies Act (2006).

And recent reports suggested that Green was set to take Rangers to court claiming his contract allowed him legal cover during his time at the Ibrox helm and after his time at the club.

The BBC have reported that the 66-year-old’s lawyers have contacted Rangers and are seeking a court ruling on the claim, believed to involve fees of over £500,000.

But according to the Daily Record, Rangers have denied that Green’s legal representatives have made any contract with the club.

I saw lb in a tiny club before. Like early Sam Cooke Like him so much, am seeing him again in a few weeks.

If you like him, you might want to try St. Paul and the broken bones. Young white guy brought up in Alabama to be a preacher/gospel singer, who discovered Otis redding, and has put together a smoking soul/r& b group. More gritty than LB, but excellent! Just saw him last week, and every so often, still spontaneously start dancing and growling like James brown, and shouting/signing ‘ooh, ohh, baby, baby, baby’ …. One of these times, it is going to land me in hot water!

    Enjoy your bday!

  11. Tallybhoy

Fortunately I’m not in court for the next few days… Otherwise, the spontaneous episodes of ‘jamesbrown-itis’ might be a problem!

  12. West End of East End on

Greenpinata – Must admit I was surprised when I heard on the radio that the attendance was 13k, saw it again on the BBC match report this morning. I thought it was nearer 18 – 20k…

  13. Another circa £500,000(that’s a lot of money) sucked outa Sevco is guid news, add to that circa £600,000) to Trainers mob(Level 5)makes better news…..you’ve got to ask yourself FTSFA…..can a team(club)with no bank facility…..no mad…..no League Cup income etc…..b allowed to participate in the big league…..if it happens?

  14. Did not see the game last night, but the performance, and atmosphere, seems to have been rather flat.

To be expected ‘tho with only 13 odd thousand there.

Still, the main thing is that we are through to the last right and the huns and sheep urnae!

  15. Hunderbirds staying in Isle of Mull hotel mate. Looking forward to wee break. The Mrs has been to Staffa so pretty sure the card is marked for a visit. Never been to any of them last time we were meant to go the ferries were cancelled due to the weather so the Crerra hotels put us up in oban bay hotel. Weather thankfully not to bad this weekend.

Addendum to Staffa boat trip. Take a decent piece and a few tinnies. Great to have a drink on Europe’s Atlantic frontier.

Dancing? Ah cannae dae that at all. Must have had a rhythm bypass op as an infant I think.

  18. There was a time in the barren years where any trophy was cherished. Maybe we are spoiled and no longer value the Cup Competitions.

I’m probably out of kilter with the majority but I love Cup matches, and in particular Cup Finals. You cannot be in a Cup Final unless you negotiate your way through uninspiring games like last night.

It wasn’t great but try telling that to young Tierney, Blackett showed he could do a job if needed at centre half, Efe continued his recent good form and Janko also performed well. Nesbitt’s cameo introduction came too late but I have no doubt, had we got the second earlier, he would have got at least 20/25 minutes. So all in all a useful exercise for the Manager and some of the younger players.

  19. Mike in Toronto spoke with you before about Leon Bridges mate. I had tickets to see him in king tuts in July but due to a death in family had to give them away. Strange thing is my old aunt died yesterday morning but no arrangements made so I will be going tonight. Not sure if young Mr Bridges visiting Glasgow is good for my family though.

I will look out for St Paul and the broken bones sounds like my kinda band.

Much better coverage of the LC on RS today. They actually managed to read out the results!

Can’t think why it was so bad yesterday…..

  21. I fear that we are playing a system that is pretty unshakeable and that players will only survive at Celtic if they play that system well.

I’m not going to tell you McGregor is a great player or that he wasn’t poor last night but Callum struggles perpetually played on the right wing.

We play a system where we demand the wide men of the 3 behind the striker play on opposing wings to their strong foot so they can come inside. Armstrong always plays on the left. It suits him as he’s not the slight/winger type headed for the byline.

Kris Commons is being lined up on the right these days (though Kris can be strong on both) but again is happier coming inside.

The system we play is designed to have these guys supporting the striker, having a dig, and allowing the fullbacks to do the touchline thing. Suits Izzy to a tee (sadly his crossing accuracy is about 1 in 8), and will suit Janko who I like more and more each time he plays.

James Forrest likes both, he does occasionally get a run on both sides and he’s good doing either when on form.

McGregor is listed on all the databases as a central midfielder but in the first team has always been deployed as a winger. He’s scored a few goals getting into central positions but creates nothing on the wing and is hung out to dry when the ball is played to his feet and turns to meet two defenders. He’s always on the wrong side to go up the wing which is the only way out of that situation. He’s always looking for the ball inside rather than up the line. It puts the defender under pressure to thread the needle and it puts him under pressure surrounded by players. Boerigter, Tonev and Berget all went the same way, the position on the ‘wrong’ side doesn’t work as well for them as it does for others.

GMS has had a run on the left at times, his difficulty is slightly different in that he really needs to play high up the park against the back line, he’s not the type to carry it 70 yards like James can, and now Rogic, and Johansen on his game. GMS is a brilliant crosser of a ball from a tight angle and has a bag of tricks that need confidence to come out.

GMS will find his way, I fear Callum will always struggle in an unnatural position for him and feel for the boy.

Rogic I am getting excited about, what a turnaround. Johansen needs some breathing space and well out of that Bitton/Brown role where he’s struggling. Bide his time till Commons or Rogic are unavailable.

Looking forward to Saturday. Mon the hoops, let’s rag doll these jambos!

Good post. My best memories following Celtic (bar the John Doyle 4-2 league clincher, but that was in effect a cup game any way) are Cup games. And you’re right, the road to the more memorable games is littered with games like last nights. Also good that some fringe players got a run out, and another clean sheet. All Good, all good.
