Celtic will need to dig deep for victory

1054

Neil Lennon’s most inspirational victory over Rangers arrived in January 2011 when a depleted squad in poor form outplayed their rivals.  Despite this it remains a concern that Gary Hooper and James Forrest, the manager’s two most favoured players, are injury doubts for tomorrow. Whether Hooper and Forrest are fit or not, we’ll need all the fighting spirit from the win last year if we want to leave with another win.

Six days ago at Hampden we witnessed what happens when a team in the middle of a results slump focus on the most game they have left in the season.  Kilmarnock are a team with enormous vulnerabilities and I’m prepared to bet than none of you witnessed their last win over Celtic in Glasgow, but they got the result.  Tomorrow is the biggest game in Rangers’ season.  You can forget about Ally McCoist’s comments that Celtic are firm favourites, that’s what passes as mind games across the city. Any win would be an enormous achievement from Celtic.

  1. Where is Jabba these days? He seems to have gone to ground since receiving a verbal broadside from NL

Some of your points hold re Shug.. But I don’t hate him. I pity him.

Must be hard being a modern day journalist who is oblivious to digital media & citizen journalism. This poor old man honestly rejects folk like Phil as an Internet bampot. Might not be do embarrassing if the likes of Phil were not proven to be genuinely prophetic.

I’d imagine even Editors have their heads in their hands counting down the days till he retires. Shug is a sad old joke. Nobody told him ‘shock jock’ was a temporary radio fad that died 10 year ago.

He reminds me of a dad dancing at a wedding.

Did you read my review, posted this morning, of Kevin Mc.Carra’s new book:-

Celtic- A Biography in Nine Lives?

  4. Off topic – and he shouldn’t be in the squad for tomorrow – but looking at the development squad highlights I’m looking forward to Ibrahim getting a chance once the title’s wound up. He looks a very skilful and composed player who can create through the middle (which we lack). A bit slight and probably not a defender but would like to see him let loose against smaller teams.

  5. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Sparkleghirl. There downfall started well before that, the day they made Dick Advocat there manager and he convinced Sir Skinty to spend 12 Million on Flo was when there downfall was assurred.H.H.

  6. Watched the last 20mins of Liverpool v Wigan. Absolute garbage.

  8. Confession time.

I wanted M’Well to win today. Too much trouble tomorrow if we win the league you see. I was/ am worried for the safety of Celtic supporters everywhere.

HOWEVER: it’s happened so it is now GAME ON. A BIG chance for the young Celts to redeem themselves and dispel any lingering doubts they may have about themselves.

Normally this would be the biggest game of the season tomorrow. Full stop. Hopefully it will be. But it doesn’t have to be.

It would be nice to see us do the business there. Can’t deny that. Rub it right up them and all that. But it will not be the end of our world if we don’t. And we still get to rub it right up them for the forseeable future!!

    Rambling thoughts……..

  9. It’s somewhat amazing that the DRs sports editor, our good friend Jabba, can disappear to Oz for three weeks at the business end of the football season.

Wonder how that was justified unless his employer was actually happy to see the back of his wee fat head. He’s certainly not missed; either in his rag or on Shortbread.

Just in after a walk in the sunshine and a visit to Schoenstatt near the training park. I am now holding my breath, not sure if I can hold it to late tomorrow afternoon. Well done Kilmarnock sounds like a good game.

Also half way through reading Alex thomson’s blog, absolutley music to my ears or words to savour. I remember being so depressed about the MSM and realising their negativity and myopia drag a whole lot of people down. However Alex T’s words give me hope that after CO they will soon be out on thier neck !

I especially like ‘ Equally, a number of fine Glasgow journalists have been incredibly helpful, encouraging and agree there has been something deeply wrong for far too long in the culture of reporting RFC’

    Just checked the results.

Must admit. Pre-game today and for the last few weeks I have argued that winning the league at Celtic Park was my preferred option.

  14. A strong midfield and we will win tomorrow. Ledley must start in midfield – just my opinion. Left back could be our Achilles heel. Moving Charlie to LB weakens our central defense – moving Joe into the LB position weakens our midfield – Wilson should be on the bench. As always in Lenny we trust.

Have I stuck a personal nerve? No, it couldn’t be?? Surely not??

Mind you! Showbiz agent could mean putting Scottish footballers centre stage. Being as shortsighted as Hugh could lead you to mistake Pacific Quay for the Pacific Ocean and James Traynor for John Candy. But who, in Hollywood, could you possibly mistake for Jim Delahunt?

As for the self publicity re Hugh’s successful newspaper career, I think you’ll find the loss of readership under his uniquely clever approach equates to Fred Goodwin’s financial stewardship and Super Ally’s defence of a 15 point lead.

Hughie does not need or deserve my approval. He is peeing into our tent. If only certain posters could be equally strong in defence of our tent dwellers, such as, say, Neil “corner boy” Lennon.

    Jist a thought.

And I’m still laughing too. There’s a lot to laugh at.

  19. Funny thing is

We go 26 games unbeaten and nobody i mean nobody mentions/misses mcourt!

We lose 1 game and suddenly out from the the woodwork comes the ” we need paddy ” brigade

He is a third rate player who should be nowhere the team for tomorrow he has had his chances give me youngsters like mcgeogh or george

I did read the review but I cannot start reading a new book just now as I’m half way through War and Peace on my kindle (don’t tell me how it ends). I think the Napoleonic wars were shorter than the book but there’s a fair bit about freemasons in it. Does Kevin cover freemasons in his? :-)

  21. So it’s game on tomorrow, I’ve wished for this day all my life, I did see Celts 10 men winning the league and f me they never liked it and bricked every window on our bus, the Glasgow police watched, I hope the Glasgow police have come into the modern world since then.

ANY SPARE Tickets please let me know, I think I should be at the game.

. I think too that Paddy McCourt might have one of those days. We have to have 5 in the middle and battle it out. Can we afford Ki?

    ________________

Ki, possibly, could be a match winner. Paddy has had only one good game against Rangers – the Sammi game at Ibrox when he played as an orthodox mid-fielder.
