Celtic will need to dig deep for victory

1054

Neil Lennon’s most inspirational victory over Rangers arrived in January 2011 when a depleted squad in poor form outplayed their rivals.  Despite this it remains a concern that Gary Hooper and James Forrest, the manager’s two most favoured players, are injury doubts for tomorrow. Whether Hooper and Forrest are fit or not, we’ll need all the fighting spirit from the win last year if we want to leave with another win.

Six days ago at Hampden we witnessed what happens when a team in the middle of a results slump focus on the most game they have left in the season.  Kilmarnock are a team with enormous vulnerabilities and I’m prepared to bet than none of you witnessed their last win over Celtic in Glasgow, but they got the result.  Tomorrow is the biggest game in Rangers’ season.  You can forget about Ally McCoist’s comments that Celtic are firm favourites, that’s what passes as mind games across the city. Any win would be an enormous achievement from Celtic.

    Thanks for sharing my caution.

Too many around like last Sunday who think that it is simply a case of showing up.

THEY will raise desperation to a new level.

Celtic’s major problem will be not allowing themselves to be drawn into potential red card situations.

Don’t need to tell me. I was there the last time it was done.

Archie McPherson has good article in today’s Herald about that particular occasion.

  5. BigJoe… Tomorrow’s game is being shown live on Fox Soccer Channell which is widely available through most cable providers (at least that’s the case here on the west coast) if you have access to a TV or can find a sports bar open at 8am. Also might be worth checking nafcsc.com for nearest CSC?

    Good luck!

  6. Anyone know why Jabba hasn’t been on Shortbread all week ?

Somebody needs to take Dalziel’s laces from him.

  7. where is jabba these days? Suddenly gone very quiet. Has he decided to go on holiday just at the time when there is so much to write about in the world of Scottish football?

  10. Hateley hand ball for the penalty. Just gets better by the minute.

As I said earlier in the week, caution has to be the watchword tomorrow. I would not play Wanyama or Mathews. Elbows will try and finish their careers and get away with it. What experience we have has to be utilised. I think too that Paddy McCourt might have one of those days. We have to have 5 in the middle and battle it out. Can we afford Ki?

“Why.. Mr. Keevins or Mr. Nicholas.. or Mr. Guidi.. or Andy Walker..

Are Forced tae be So Sickenly Reverent and Obsequious..tae the Blue side o’ Glesca… in the Manner of their Reportage.”

See, I understand why journos and presenters should be neutral and not act as Celtic fans with typewriters but, when you rubbish your own, lie about them, and join in with the hun jokes, that’s more about moral cowardice than professionalism.

Hugh McDonald & Kevin McCarra have managed to state their Celtic allegiances in print without trumpeting them or having to sell their soul. They have disappointed and annoyed Celtic fans by not fighting our corner but they have never turned against us.

Hugh Keevins cannot look in a mirror and say likewise.

  12. I often say that our players need to keep their cool in a derby. This will apply even more so tomorrow as they will do everything to wind us up. The dirty spoiling tactics will be out in force. The sly elbows, the foot left in, the wee digs will all be there.

And we know the MIB will let them away with it.

  13. Lets destroy the web footed, scaly backed, cock eyed, wart riddled ones in their own bigot infested warren…power to the bhoys!

Go for the jugular early and we will win.

  14. Doc

    Matthews, Rogne, Wilson, Mulgrew

    Brown, Wanyama, Ki, Ledley, Samaras

    Hooper(if fit)

    Yep, I like that!

    regards

    James_Oregon

  15. And to think at 2 o’clock that Keevins said that he was 100% certain that the safest bet in Scotland today was on a Motherwell win at Rugby Park.

Once again, Shuggie on the ball. Another Artur Jorge moment and yet he still gets a gig. Astonishing!
