Being in a good place

266

It’s so rare it almost feels un-Celtic to look ahead to an important game without a handful of injury concerns.  Callum McGregor missed the kick-off in our visit to Ibrox last month, a game we went into with the prospect of going five points adrift if we’d lost.  The win over Newco at Celtic Park in December was achieved without Cameron Carter-Vickers or Reo Hatate (who made the bench but had not played since October).

And who can forget our first trip to Ibrox this season, which saw then-unfancied Liam Scales get a jersey due to the absence of Carter-Vickers, Nat Phillips, Maik Nawrocki and Stephen Welsh.  We finished that game with a back four of Ralston, Lagerbielke, Scales and Bernabei – still won, in case you’d forgotten.

Brendan Rodgers had clearly whispered in the ear of those who stepped up in the days before these games, inspiring performances that would have surprised their dads.  By contrast, yesterday, the manager told Celtic TV that Saturday’s game “will probably be the best version of the team that I’ve had since I’ve been here”.  Adding, “I think after another good week of work and concentration on the training field, we’ll arrive on Saturday as good a place as we have been all season.”

That’s why you feel a little unease ahead of Saturday, you are in unfamiliar territory.  Football is seldom straightforward, the best two sides in the country will be on the field trying to win, so the risks are clear.

John Swinney slams unelected Tory PM. Totally correct.

A year later : Backroom cult deal sees unelected John Swinney become the latest unelected First Minister.

    Totally shameless man.

    ——-

    Indeed!!!

Sometimes the selective memory just isn’t selective enough.

    ——–

We have had the old guard unholy trinity – Salmond, Sturgeon & Swinney, with their sycophant/attendant Humza thrown in to keep the seat warm. All we need now is consectutive appointments of Hyslop and Robertson as FM when Swinney falls, for the complete longevity quintet ‘serving’ as FM within one parliament. Old promises kept – pensions delivered, and no need for gold watches.

Can’t believe we’ve had two days of Celtic supporters arguing about unused season tickets and empty seats, with some posters feeling they have to come on and justify their actions when, for whatever reason, they are unable to attend one or more games.

    Surely we’re better than that.

    Apologies Saint Sivs.

Please send me your email address.

I can then send you my thoughts prior to posting and you can then give me permission if they are to your liking👍

  8. Work hard, your cash do what you want with your cash.

Buy a season ticket (we all would prefer you went) but its up to you it’s yours.

    Not hard to understand really.

I am telling ye. The day will come when a use it or lose it policy will be implemented by the PLC.

  10. Step 1. Probably for the first time this season Brendan has a fully fit squad available for a derby game. Step 2. the team are hitting form at the right time following that display last Saturday against Hearts. Step 3 Brendan’s success rate against our derby opponents this weekend.

    I totally agree with you.

What you have described makes you a Celtic consumer.

You paid your money and you are entitled to come and go ….. or not ….. as you wish.

Shout and moan and transfer whatever stress you have onto the players in the park.

Leave early to go catch a bus or strictly on the telly or go have a pint or a pie early at half time.

And of course with little actual knowledge you can always scream about those running the club.

Maybe even once in a while you might even feel like cheering the team if the live up to your expectations.

It’s the Celtic consumers way. It’s not about supporting the team just consuming as with the theatre or a movie or a meal you maybe don’t quite feel like finishing.

    It is afterall entertainment.

  12. My sense is Saint Stivs thinks supporting Celtic is a bit more than that. Maybe he thinks that sharing tickets like Moisey 17 did when he had it spare last week is a good thing to ensure it is used. He maybe thinks that is more his version of a Celtic minded way of being.

    I kinda see that.

Do you think not getting a message so far = a No then re cup final tickets ?

  14. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

And thank you again Burnley78 for giving me your spare ticket.

I left the stadium hoarse after cheering the team round their lap of appreciation 👍

    Shades of Sevco.

After years of onfield failure some supporters will draw their comfort from anything.

Approximately 25 years ago a friend of mine joked that the evolution of football would eventually see two guys in suits carrying briefcases walking out at 3pm to the centre spot where a table and two chairs facing each other was set up.

The ref would blow his whistle and these two would pull out reams of paper and proceed to audibly compare turnover, profit, loss, dividends, amortization levels and net debt ….

    … to cheering crowds.

For a good couple of years around the independence referendum CQN was full of the same people on either side of the debate posting their views with no intention of recognising any merit on the other side.

CQN lost a lot of good posters at that time.

May I ask that you and other posters don’t drag us back into that mire of party politics.

I backed it, but to no avail, i have placed it in my horse tracker, so i will back it again when it runs.

I was often told that if a horse is tipped to win and it doesn’t come in to be sure to back it the next day out. Time will tell.

I agree that Diane Abbot’s treatment is disgraceful but I’m surprised you have nothing to say about Kate Forbes’ elevation in a pretend-left wing party.

  25. 21st century ‘Left Wing” is nothing like the Left Wing when i was growing up. Left Wing back in the day was about overthrowing despot governments, Cuba, Nicaragua etc etc.

Left Wing these days is going around wearing outfits and championing paedophilia.
