Being in a good place

266

It’s so rare it almost feels un-Celtic to look ahead to an important game without a handful of injury concerns.  Callum McGregor missed the kick-off in our visit to Ibrox last month, a game we went into with the prospect of going five points adrift if we’d lost.  The win over Newco at Celtic Park in December was achieved without Cameron Carter-Vickers or Reo Hatate (who made the bench but had not played since October).

And who can forget our first trip to Ibrox this season, which saw then-unfancied Liam Scales get a jersey due to the absence of Carter-Vickers, Nat Phillips, Maik Nawrocki and Stephen Welsh.  We finished that game with a back four of Ralston, Lagerbielke, Scales and Bernabei – still won, in case you’d forgotten.

Brendan Rodgers had clearly whispered in the ear of those who stepped up in the days before these games, inspiring performances that would have surprised their dads.  By contrast, yesterday, the manager told Celtic TV that Saturday’s game “will probably be the best version of the team that I’ve had since I’ve been here”.  Adding, “I think after another good week of work and concentration on the training field, we’ll arrive on Saturday as good a place as we have been all season.”

That’s why you feel a little unease ahead of Saturday, you are in unfamiliar territory.  Football is seldom straightforward, the best two sides in the country will be on the field trying to win, so the risks are clear.

Have to admit I think Jens has got a point here.

That Arsenal team of 2003/04 were invincible.

Anyone who makes the point that these invincibles lost to Man Utd in the FA Cup and to Middlesbrough …. er home AND away …. in the league cup?

    Just churlish.

    They were invincibles.

    Go get ’em Jens.

You should send me a list of what publication you will allow those who post on here to read.

So should re-read your posts before hitting the ‘Post Comment’ button.

If you did we’d be hearing a lot less from you.

Darwin did not instigate the political debate. But as I previously mentioned I knew he would get the blame.

One of the best aspects of CQN was and is its diversity. In 2014 the blog was vibrant as we debated the most important political decision Scotland was facing for many years. The outcome would affect our club dramatically.

CQN could not put its head in the sand. We didn’t and there were many good passionate posts on both sides. My old sparring partner Billy Bhoy 05 was a poster I really admired.

Since 2014 there are many Celtic forums in competition with CQN. Some of them are excellent and informative and are a match for any blog. They also stream many games.

We also have various WhatsApp groups in direct competition.

CQN does not have an advantage or an edge in purely Celtic matters or indeed for football matters.

We also have a blog which to be blunt is not user friendly.

However we can still excell in diversity and in personal tributes. Nobody expresses empathy better than CQN and many of us has learned so much from this blog. From geography, pub advisor, history, moon landings. conspiracy theories etc etc.

Diversity is not just advantageous for this blog, we need it.

    Cheers and HH.

Re the Bayern disallowed goal. VAR could not intervene because the flag went up and the ref blew for offside BEFORE the goal was scored.

Yes, the linesman could have let it go until out of play — goal or otherwise — and then flagged, but once the referee blew for offside, some Real players stopped and the goalkeeper made no effort to save the shot.

Talk of ‘the fix was in’ is childish in the extreme and just typifies this place.

  19. Drambowiecelt on

    @Melv..when you see this…Grandson says

    Type …jamesy…..on you tube…

and he says ..loves your song..

    Hail hail ..mate.

  20. Tom – Why do you think the linesman put his flag up? It’s not what he is supposed to do in this situation.
