Celtic’s fitness deficit

189

With a little over two weeks until the league campaign is underway and, more importantly, five weeks until Champions League qualification starts, Celtic’s three games in France in the coming week take on an importance beyond results.

Many of the teams we could face in the early qualification rounds have been back playing football for a month and will be at peak fitness for the European qualifiers.  Celtic normally face this fitness deficit in the qualifiers only against Scandinavian opposition but there is a high probability we will face teams five weeks ahead of Celtic in match fitness.

This autumn, European football will split into the haves and the have nots.  Celtic could be a team in the Champions League, picking up talent at a price not seen for a decade, or we could lose more money than at any time in our history.  Champions League qualification is up there alongside winning the league as the most important objective for the club, even this season, when 10 is on the horizon.

Sorry for any confusion bhoys regarding codes I have text my son in law about it to see what the email said.

I am sure he said we had 1 code between me, him and the grandson.

It wont matter to me as I have IPTV.

  4. I can’t see one code being issued per household. What if one holder say a son worked away from home, that would mean he would have to travel home to watch every game,

    That would be totally unfair,

AS a Ticket Holder he should and I have little doubt will be free to watch the game wherever he likes/,

  5. Good Morning all

Thanks for the info David 66. I thought I was missing something..!

Seriously – hope you feel better soon.

  19. Now Man City have won the FFP case, they are free to complete the the £25m plus Aguero deal to capture long term target Alfredo Morelos; beating off bids from PSG, Real Madrid and newly promoted Wycombe

Derby is in the peak district.

Blackpool is 30 miles from Blackburn.

Hope you are well big man.

  22. BIG JIMMY

your Denzil Washington quip made me think of an episode of Fools and horses, Grandad watching telly and Rodney is reading. Grandad says I love these films with Sydney Potter in them, Rodney looks up and says Poitier not Potter, after debating for a couple of minutes Del comes in and Rodney ask is it Poitier or Potter . Del says neither that’s Harry Belafonte you muppets.HH

  25. Sorry…but this is taken from Daily Rectum..

European football could be set for a huge shake-up, as the Dutch and Belgian top flights open talks on a potential merger.

Clubs from both nations commissioned a Deloitte study into the financial impact of creating a unified BeNe division.

The consulting firm calculated that such a league could generate in the region of €400million in television revenue per season, with the individual leagues currently raising around €80million each from broadcasting deals.

Belgian sides Gent, Club Brugge, Genk, Anderlecht, and Standard Liege commissioned the study along with and Ajax, AZ Alkmaar, Utrecht, Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven and Vitesse from the Eredivisie.

The move will be of interest to Celtic and Rangers, following previous proposals for an ‘Atlantic League’ to compete with the Europe’s giants.

  26. EPL transfer window to open the 25th of July. That’s when things will really kick-off.

I imagine the Spanish will do something similar since their season finishes on the 19th.

  27. Does anyone know if the Celtic/spfl players plan to take a knee in solidarity for Black lives Matter before the first game of the season? I was a bit disappointed none of our players supported Defoe – or maybe they did and I missed it?

  28. I am in the unfortunate position that I cannot take the knee.

This is due to both my knees being knackered, one due to a fall and the other due to old age.

Can they not invent something else in a standing up position in order that I can show my support?

I believe this is discrimination against the old, infirm and unfit.
