Champions fixtures published, another chapter in weekend narrative

342

Winning the league at Tynecastle, or against Aberdeen at Celtic Park, would both be acceptable. The one blot today’s fixture announcement threw up is the possibility that we could win the league while not playing, if Aberdeen fail against Motherwell, a game which kicks off after our match at Tynecastle has ended.

Whatever way it falls, securing five-in-a-row is surely now a matter of when, not if.

After ‘news’ that our chief executive could be a target for a relegation-threatened English club yesterday, our media have moved into the playing squad today. Is there a game coming up they’re worried about?

These transfer pieces are always available. Every club has records on literally hundreds of players. You can write a piece on any player, at any time, on tenuous information, they just happen to pop up at a convenient moment.

Still holding out for a love rat story before the weekend, or a reprisal of the ‘Refs let Scott Brown off the hook’ narrative.

A few words re Merle Haggard – Decent enough country singer.

*the legend that Johnny Cash wished he had been, ironically it was a Johnny Cash concert at San Quentin which inspired Mel.

George Jones was the greatest country musician of all time, as far as I’m concerned.

*Not a country fan myself but the purists who are would agree with you there.

Jim Reeves, second possibly, Kris Kristofferson there with the best of them. Obviously Glenn Campbell, Johnny Denver – Cash et all Nelson, Kenny, Cline, Williams,Conway etc.

*Jim Reeves was a big favourite in Mrs TT’s house as was Eddie Arnold. BTW Kris was a Rhodes Scholar.

My bother came in one day happy as a pig in Raphael with his new Patsy Cline album, I was going through my John Sebastian phase at the time.

I did like Sweet Dreams but by Cajun singer Tommy McLain which got plenty of airplay on “Radio Scotland playing just for you so beat the ban and join the clan on station 242”, great babysitting song.

Did you know that one of Patsy’s biggest hits “Crazy”, the biggest jukebox song of all time, was written by wee outlaw Willie. Not sure if this is one of his earlier songs he “sold” whilst a penniless songwriter similar to “Funny How Time Slips Away” which Georgie Fame did a cracking version of.

Can’t bring myself to hate anyone, or anything, not even those wretched zombies.

Think that you will find that when the Main Stand was rebuilt there were massive problems regarding the foundations. Much of the subsoil (?)I believe was thick layers of gravel and for safety reasons there had to be heavy pillars at the ends and retractable ones in the middle.

The toilets do need improving. Not helped when you have graffiti – including one with F*** Celticeltic Fen***Ba****** in one of the toilets in the North Stand which has been there since the Commonwealth Games.

  9. Rarely comment on the deadco but have to say something after Wattie’s comments.

Right to be bitter, about what! Clubs who shunned them, how dare they stand up for integrity, spurn one of their own member Clubs who just about broke every rule in the book, how dare they indeed. He blames others and claims that Scottish Football is poorer for their absence, even citing Clubs who are facing relegation (without naming them) who stood against them.

If only those the Clubs would have turned round and said wait a wee minute, we cannot through out the might Glasgow Rangers, they are the establishment, we must bow to them, we must let them continue to cheat, continue to rule the roost, because if we don’t, we could be relegated.

Wattie and the rest of their followers should be bitter but not to the hard working, rule following Clubs but to the one and only Sir David Murray!

I will finish with this, Wattie’s comments are exactly the reason why the padlocks should be put on and their colours retired to the SFA Hall of Shame. You, me and thousands of Supporters of other Clubs know they died but until they are cremated (figuratively speaking), they will always exist in the eyes of the world.

Oh, I’ll turn it on Wattie, me and thousands like me will always be bitter that deadco got away with years of cheat. Yes, HMRC will get their decision they need but the SFA have and will not allow them to be punished for their wrong doing.

    Keep the Faith!

  16. The Resolute Mr Pastry on

The mistake that many, even well-meaning ex Celtic players and commentators make when repeating the “Celtic have missed Rangers” mantra is precisely this:

If Rangers had ‘crashed and burned’, because of their debt – had done everything in their power to settle their with their creditors – sold players for that purpose – apologised for cheating over tax and registering players they could not afford – had they been properly relegated because they could not compete – then there may have been some merit in saying that they have been missed and if they had managed to ‘claw their way’ after all that, we might have said that Celtic had missed the strong challenge.

However, how can you really say Celtic have missed a ‘Rangers challenge’, when that challenge has been predicated on cheating and tax evasion for twenty-five years. The football challenge may be missed, the cheating and skullduggery certainly will not.

Yes Celtic and the top-tier have been affected by the death of ‘Rangers’ – you simply can’t take 40% out of a league structure without ramifications.

They may be back ‘in the mix’, however the bad taste will last for a very long time.

We at Celtic have a young and on paper an exciting squad – I firmly believe that we will add three quality players in the next window and of course jettison seven or eight that are surplus to requirements.

  17. I don’t think Walter is daft. He called it at the time, he said good luck to the new lot of something along those lines.

What he is doing now, is towing the Dave King, Level 5, SMSM propaganda line. Feed the people what they want to hear and they will come out in their droves. Season ticket renewal time is soon. With the League in the bag, a defeat on Sunday is the end of the line for them this season. A real doing will do a lot of damage.

Expect a lot more of this.

Ps. I wouldn’t have a problem loaning a handful of players to Dundee Utd next season.

  19. Mr Pastry, if you are on call,

I have just remembered your post from this afternoon (posted below and I have, hopefully, emboldened 2 sections).

It was memorable to me as it is the first time I’m aware of that you have written something personal, shared something of yourself on the blog. It was also memorable, as it reads to me that you went from John Street to a coffee and roll and sausage roll stall off Pollokshaws Road.

    Is that what you meant?

If do, were you the Memphis Flash?

JUNGLEJIM@11:43 (last article) – Wee memory re The Marbles.

Remember being in a very young band that was on the same bill as them, up at Strathclyde Students Union in John Street 1969.

We did two spots, one either side of the Marbles. We were good harmony group and had one of their numbers in our set “By The Light Of The Burning Candle” – we did it early in our first set, place was still quite empty and Marbles’ roadies were still putting the finishing touches to their gear on the main stage.

They stopped and came over to our stage and watched us perform the number – they were impressed but mentioned to our manager that it would better if we didn’t do anymore of their numbers, as that sort of thing was frowned upon in ‘real showbiz’ circles – however we were kind of stroppy and did “To Love Somebody”, their Bee Gees cover, as our last number before they came on.

They were long gone into the night when we finished our second-set, so we had no contact, but they were good with some top players in their band – it was just the usual visit to the coffee and roll and sausage stall off Pollokshaws Road for us – last time I thought about this vignette, was when seeing Graham Bonnet on TOTP some years later – he has a mighty voice – sort of an earler version of Michael Bolton.”

If the supporters of the NewClub are too busy being worked up, angry, bitter and resentful then they might be too busy to think about the implications of what was said yesterday with regard to an appeal in the BTC.

  23. What if they hadn’t been admonished to the lowest league?

Given the level of players they had available I’m guessing they would have been relegated. Would that have appeased the loyals? Would they have played to full stadiums every week? Would they then have been relegated to the next lower league?

From where I sit, they should count themselves lucky.

  24. Saint Stivs says SACK THE BOARD on

This weekend in Scotland some football team will be sanctioned for messing up the team lines. Or playing a suspended player. Or playing a cup tied player.

If it’s cup football a team will be expelled.

If it’s league you lose 3-0.

It happens. That the administration of the game.

None of these teams hopefully are giving the players any type of payment off the books.

    Walters old team did.

That the bottom line truth of it.

Not an administration error. But players falsely registered. Full contracts not disclosed. Side letter not lodged (sic ) with the governing body.

Each and every trophy won in the ebt big and small should be struck off.

Walter. You were never punished not once.

Not one football sanction. Not one 3-0 overturn per season.

and when the European Court of Human Rights finally gets around to investigating the way they have been treated ….well heads will roll,

The problem of course is that the SFA and the Scottish Media are so riddled with Celtic supporters that many of the files relating to this scandal have been destroyed

Make no mistake this was a papish conspiracy on a grand scale involving members of opus dei and the knights of Columbanus, their tentacles stretch all the way from The White House to the Vatican.

Meanwhile reports are emerging of a training ground bust up between 2 prominent Celtic players, one of whom has been having an affair with the others wife. Both have been suspended and transfer listed with Norwich apparently ready to table a £50,000.00 bid

Finally Mike Ashley and Dave King have had clear the air talks and seem ready to bury the hatchet,as Newcastle plummet headlong to relegation Ashley has told trusted sources that he now intends to pump money into the long suffering teddy bears in order to have a proper tilt at the Champions League next season.
