Chill your jets, excuse to fail

849

Chill your jets.  Far better to win and score five goals in a preseason friendly than to lose, but these games are all about improving fitness, the score is the least important aspect. Notwithstanding that, I’m pleased Teemu Pukki showed some form in front of goal. I don’t think Celtic would stand in his way if he found a potential new employer, but if he remains with us this season, his pace is likely to sit comfortably with the Ronny Deila model.

After missing the bulk of the last two Champions League campaigns through injury and Brazilian diving, news that Scott Brown will miss an extended period as a consequence of his hamstring injury is a blow to club and player.

It could have been worse. Celtic lost Scott for the bulk of last season’s Champions League on 1 October, when they were unable to compensate by tweeking the squad. Expectations are we will be without the player until October and we are only nine days into the transfer window. Lots of time to ensure we are at full strength when the meaty part of the season starts.

Brazil players and Phil Scolari turned up for yesterday’s semifinal wearing Naymar caps in the absence of their star striker. Their Excuse To Fail – emblazoned across their foreheads. Literally!

Add to the mix what can only be described as inappropriately enthusiastic anthem singing, while holding up the no. 10 shirt of, let’s remember, another player, not a fallen war hero, and you have all the ingredients for cloudy and unstructured thinking, instead of focus and awareness.

I don’t doubt this was all well-meaning but it was amateurish naivety. Players should turn up to a stadium with their game plan dominating their minds, not lamenting the loss of their best hope, having been consumed by national pride, one of mankind’s enduring fallacies. The Brazilian FA should immediately sack Roy Hodgson Big Phil.

Has all this Tour de Yorkshire business put you in the mood to get the bike out? If you why don’t you sign up for the Cardenden Cycle, which this year takes place on 6 September. You cycle from Celtic Park to the grave of John Thomson in Cardenden, Fife, a 64 mile journey. Full details are here.

If your cycling days are over, they are looking for drivers and stewards… if you’re available.

  1. So many times we talk about the gullible huns, but sometimes we are not much better. This time last year we were all arguing and debating who we should sign. The CL qualifiers were on the horizon, and we were all in a frenzy.

What has changed.Pukki, has scored 4 goals in a couple of friendlies.Thats it.All our striking problems solved.A youngster,Henderson has continued his advance to the top(Still a bit away)and many telling us he can be Broonies replacement,no problem.

Our captain and driving force of the team out,and some others telling us Kayal can fill that role !!!!!!Oh really. The same Kayal who was going to take us all by storm this time last year?.How did that work out?.

Sorry all I see so far is the ,same old, same old.No discernible difference in the way we play, and definitely not in the way we are approaching, yet again the transfer window, with a whole season at stake.

We,as a support, are not even bothering to debate transfer targets.Has no one else noticed this.?.PL must be rubbing his hands.Looks like he has turned the support into the”Stepford Fans”.

The SPFL is selling the same club line on their website when it comes to “Honours”

    http://spfl.co.uk/clubs/rangers/

The head of the SFA, Stewart Regan, when asked directly in an interview if they are a new or same club went with “football is all about opinions” as his answer.

In a few years Celtic fans will be accused of causing trouble and being bitter for not moving on when speaking the truth and the media will gloss over liquidation calling the event an administration.

I don’t think we signed anyone before the CL qualifiers last season either. Still got through though.

As for Pukki, why don’t you get off his back. If he wasn’t scoring you’d be sticking the boot in as well.

Obviously, you just like a moan. Good luck to you. Try enjoying life.

Thanks for the explanation re Scott’s injury, sounds like he overstretched trying to control the ball, which is not too far from my own guess. The quicker he recovers the better, they are talking two months on the radio now.

As for his sending off against Barca, well you can blame the ref until the cows come home but the fact remains Scott Brown gave the ref an excuse to send him off, gave him a reason. What was he thinking about, he wasn’t, he wasn’t thinking at all. It was 0-0 at the time and the team Captain gets himself sent off. The World Cup proved that Neymar deserves some protection, though he didn’t get it when he most needed it. Neymar is one of the bravest players in the game, as well as being one of the most skilful. Some people see that as an affront, Scott Brown is one of them, beit in a Celtic or a Scotland strip.

“The SPFL is selling the same club line on their website when it comes to “Honours”

No surprise there. But that has nothing to do with liquidation. HMRC were in control of that event not the SPFL.

Until Rangers exit liquidation they are not the same club. It’s fairly straightforward and I am most relaxed about it.

  10. weebobbycollins on

RWE…..re the Maradona clip from earlier: it was during the pre-match warm up (Bayern v Napoli, UEFA cup in Munich 1989)…Here’s what Jurgen Klinsmann said…”There were 70,000 people in the stadium and Maradona went on the field. We’re on the other side of the field, warming up like Germans: seriously, focused.

There’s music playing, the song “Live is Life”, and to the rhythm of the song Maradona started juggling the ball. So we stopped our warm-up. What’s this guy doing? He’s juggling off his shoulders. And we couldn’t warm up anymore because we had to watch this guy.”

  11. Steinreignedsupreme

Cant exit liquidation, nothing to exit, its been liquidated. The remaining assets have been turned into cash .

Liquidation is the end of the road.

  12. I don;t think the tax case is quite finished yet. It’s difficult from the appeal judgement to work out how much has been ruled as legal and how much not – but it is all pretty academic now and only of any significance as a precedent for HMRC in future cases.

The old club is dead. Having slightly less in debts that will never be paid doesn’t make it slightly less dead.

But the myth of new club The Rangers as the same club will continue to be peddled over and over until it has become accepted as fact.

  13. Coolmore Mafia on

It is interesting no one is debating transfer targets on CQN. Rangers for example have signed Miller and Boyd. Aberdeen-Goodwillie (or Badcock as Dons fans are calling him).

It’s because we don’t have enough money to actually buy a player anyone has heard off. 11m for a nobody shot in the Championship?? Our usual 2m doesn’t buy anyone recognisable these days.

  14. TBJ

Because we both know TT fairly well I think it’s fair to say that he is a great wee man who loves our club with his whole heart and soul.

He takes a negative view at times only because he fears the worst but in reality he knows he paints a picture that ain’t ever gonnae happen.

In my modest and perhaps cautious approach I reckon they’re effed for many years to come.

And I never thought I’d ever be able to say that.

The nowadays entity are a joke. And they know it.

Aye they as the entity they were are no more, we know, they know, but and always the but, they won’t accept the truth, the media are scared crapless to tell it like it is, and if the truth be know, who can really blame them.

The problem we are facing is the same as it ever was, the establishment, the cheats with the whistles, they see them as one and the same, even our suits see them as the same.

Problems, they are only just warming up on the starting blocks.

IMO that is, I pray to god I am way off the mark, but I doubt it.

  19. So Rangers tax arrangements were legal allowing them to attract better players than us and achieve such success.

Why then were the Celtic board so inept in not following the same procedure?

    Heads must roll, mustn’t they?

  20. RWE…

You won’t be surprised to read that I still do not accept what Scott Brown did “fell easily within the definition of excessive”.

As we both noted, the rules are indeed open to interpretation (“in the opinion of the referee”) and for me Scott was just unfortunate that the game was being refereed by the over- officious, inconsistent Monsieur Lanois.

You think it was a deserved red I don’t – we should agree to differ :)

    Celtic Mac…

It is a serious injury which Scott has suffered. I had the same myself a few years ago – it was bloomin’ sore!

As far as Scott’s red card v Barcelona is concerned, you will have read my opinion in my friendly exchanges with RWE.

Neymar? – undoubtedly a marvellous talent but “brave”? – can’t agree I am afraid.

I also cannot agree that World Cup has proved that HE needs protection. Ask Luca Modric about that.

The unfortunate incident V Colombia where he was injured was an accident in my view (there is that opinion thing again) and it is Gordon Stracghan’s too.

He is a diving so and so which makes him very hard to like and perhaps that is the reason why people are affronted.

    Off to watch the footie.

  21. Hilarious drivel from Rankers Media tonight, Brian May playing GSTQ, I ask you, what goes through their minds?

I still love simply the best and penny arcade and I get goosebumps everytime when we all start singing but how about we add a mixture of tunes into the set to build up the crowd and players. Away from todays so called music what songs could the DJ play to buzz the players up and get the crowd going? Open to all suggestions

Tiesto- He’s a Pirate- great build up anthem gets the blood flowing

Oasis- Colombia- all the fans singing ” come on!! come one!! come on!! come on!”

Verve- Love is Noise- Top tune one for the fans

Could also get special one off performances eg Brian May playing GSTQ as the players walk out. Lucky dips to choose which stand he plays from. Imagine up in the club deck playing near the Union Jack flag- amazing

I mentioned getting Tina Turner playing when we play cel*** again but she may be a fare age. Would be great to see though.

Who else could play live? Just something a bit different.
