Clubs, not Doncaster, made Murrayfield decision

75

Yesterday’s SPFL board decision to decide which League Cup semi-final to Murrayfield based on personal choice, not a ballot, had nothing to do with chief executive, Neil Doncaster.  Doncaster is the League figurehead but he has only one vote at the boardroom table.  On this occasion, he was overruled.

The Celtic statement said Peter Lawwell was obliged to leave the meeting as the matter was discussed, leaving Alan Burrows (Motherwell), John Nelms (Dundee), Warren Hawke (Morton – still smarting after Celtic refused to postpone their Scottish Cup tie in March), Martin Ritchie (Falkirk), Iain Dougan (Stranraer), as well as chairman Murdoch MacLennan and non-exec Karyn McCluskey.

Doncaster is seen as an obstacle by some Premiership clubs.  It suits them to have him portrayed as an incompetent, when in fact, he is picking up the tab for the weak thinkers who are ultimately in control of football in Scotland.

We need strong and independent executive management at the SPFL and the SFA.  The Association’s new chief exec, Ian Maxwell and Neil Doncaster are both working in environments dominated by people you would not trust to book a restaurant table.  Doncaster is both strong and independent, and a convenient fall guy, if you want to throw someone to the lions.

There are some who would have him replaced by a character more like Neil McCann than Neil Doncaster (bookmark this).  There is a dirty battle going on below radar to wrest control of Scottish football away from ‘the suits’ and towards ‘the blazers’.  Don’t help the blazers do their job.

Despite Filip Benkovic, Tom Rogic and Kris Ajer all confirmed injured for tonight, I would not risk Scott Brown, who is nursing a tight hamstring.  Our prospects, with or without Scott, are not encouraging, but we have an important game at Perth on Sunday and a relentless schedule after the international break.

We have a big squad, use it.

  1. Why pick off form Eddy as a striker instead of on form Leigh G?

    Gies a hint wull ye?

    C’MON THE CELTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, Paul, are you saying that nice, decent, fair-minded, competent Mr Doncaster chap DIDN’T want newco Rangers in the SPL (or at worst SFL1) in 2012?

  3. RUGGYGMAN on 4TH OCTOBER 2018 2:25 PM

Bold choice, Morgan does look like a more direct player than some in the squad.

if he plays it will be interesting to see how he adjusts to the European level

  4. “Doncaster is both strong and independent” (with a degree of competency thrown in)

What a turnaround. Am I on the right blog?

  5. Eddy needs to learn to lead the line as a number 9. Ideally I’d have had him up there alongside big Moussa but….

We really need a new Moussa.

  6. Choosing between Griff and Edouard is flip the coin stuff. Both are more comfortable facing goal. Neither has shown so far this season an ability to lead the line. Play with back to goal, hold the ball in and bring others in to play.

Griff has 3 goals in 4 games, granted. But against St Johnstone his general play was abysmal (not to mention the 2 or 3 good chances he wasted.) Then against Aberdeen I thought the team played well, but were let down by the lack of quality in the striker position.

Edouard, as well has endured a poor run of late. Playing in off the left vs Aberdeen he showed glimpses of form before being assaulted.

So yeah… its flip of a coin stuff

  7. My last post wasn’t a direct response to Philbhoy.

But if you want a hint.

If you think Griffiths the way he is playing at the moment, is a man in form. Then god help us.

  8. We successfully boycotted swinecastle in 1972; it was the penultimate game of the season. We had clinched 7-in-a-row 2 weeks earlier at Methil beating Wullie Maley’s 6-in-a-row record.

Only around 10,000 watched the game and our boycott was due to an increase on tickets that the calvinists had imposed surmising this game would be a title decider.

There was also the concern over extremely poor stewarding at the SC quarter replay the previous month that saw many of the travelling Celtic support miss the start and frustrations resulted with fighting on the terraces and the usual police grabbing Tims.

We were missing Skip Tae Ma Lou, the Wee Mhan, Tid and the Buzz Bomb. Jock also missed it being in London to watch the England/West Germany European Championship semi final.

Wee ten thirty scored the winner for the Hibbees in his final game at hades

Back before the internet there used to be a fanzine called ‘The Absolute game’. It was probably my favourite fanzine yet vehemently anti-old firm.

It had an article called ‘The Protestant League” where they published the method used to decide who got the covered end at hampden (the old rangers end).

Basically it was ‘the most protestant team got the covered end.

    Huns…………………….10

    Hearts……………………9

    Aberdeen………………8

    Airdrie…………………..7

    St. Mirren………………6

    Dundee…………………5

    Thistle…………………….4

    Dundee Utd……………3

    Hibs………………………..2

    Celtic………………………1etc etc

The team with the highest rating (ie most protestant) gets the covered end. This is completely how it worked. The shenanigans with the semi finals this year are an extension of this.

Ploughed pitch? > for the catholics

Perfect pitch? > most protestant team

Essentially a home game? >> Most protestant teams

Essentially an away game? >> Most catholic teams

Forget draw orders etc. Religion is the overriding factor in scottish football governance.

We need to bolster midfield tonight this mob are averaging 3 goals per game.

Eddi up top is probably best bet … but we should have better options. That’s for another day…

1-1 would be an epic result. Late Griff goal…. 22 yarder.

    Back Doncaster…good grief!!

  11. Incompetence, partiality, exaggeration, connivance….where do you start when you describe how the game is organised in Scotland. That´s why this CQN, thanks to Paul, has been so essential, as so many contributors have shattered so many myths. Of course there are heated discussions on here and wildly different views on how to get the best for Celtic but that makes it interesting and I have changed my mind on many things reading on here.

This October 2018, McLeish, Naismith, Boyd and others are given the loudest foghorns to….talk about Celtic!! As we have to be nice to each other linguistically, in our brave new Scotland , Brendan cannot use the choice language that any of us would dish out to these charlatans. The Edinburgh establishment works in tandem with the scottish media to promote these clowns and as a football is the wrong shape of a ball for both the media and certain folk from Edinburgh, they will do EVERYTHING they can to spoil our pleasure.

Yip, the blazers don´t even like football or know how to play it, that´s why they are there!! To stop anybody doing anything that might help the game. As Paul points out, Doncaster may at least be trying to govern and sort out this chaos, maybe he needs it for his CV, which the beforementioned will do everything to undermine. It´s the park keepers who never let us play on the grass in the big empty parks in Paisley when we were children, but the dogs could…..on the paths.

When you see what is possible in the game in Scotland with the scottish women getting to the World Cup with a girl from Rothesay scoring the winner and with how the name of Celtic has gone all round the world and it puts a smile on people´s faces, it sickens me to the stomach to read about how the fans are treated in Scotland.

Sounds like we´ll be in a game this evening, God bless our team.

  12. This Neil Doncaster ?????

Or was it the Neil Doncaster who changed the terms of reference in the rigged Nimmo Smith farce

  13. Why is the Dundee manager being mentioned in this leader, are there moves afoot for him him to enter football administration when he loses his job?

Just when you think things cannot get any worse for the game here.

  14. Paul67 et al

Let us take a more positive view on the trip to Murrayfield. For years and years we have constantly criticised the use of Hampden for cup semi-finals, and not just the League Cup. Now we have a situation where Neil Doncaster was forced to back down from a potentially disastrous decision and agree that one of the matches would have to be played in Edinburgh. I’m raising a cheer to that decision, despite the fact that the Celtic Board had no say, no input in it whatsoever, were prepared yet again to see our supporters put at risk. Did I say despite that, I meant because of it, because it shows, not how strong we are, but how weakly we are being represented. Celtic’s ex post facto “statement” was little more than the type of language you will find in Alice in Wonderland. Had they said something similar after the two match solution was announced I might had some respect for it, and some affinity with it but to be honest it took me all my efforts just to read it. That ship had sailed, all Brendan and the board are doing is waving from the waterside.

    =====================

I think ND and Regan worked together in keeping evidence contradicting the idea Rangers had acted honestly in their use of ebts with sideletters from the LNS Commission (as stated by LNS himself “there is no question of dishonesty”).

There are two blogs on E Tims showing Regan’s and LNS part part and whilst there is nothing to suggest ND was in the know in respect of the dishonesty associated with the wee tax case, it stretches credulity to breaking point that he did not know and he certainly did not want to know in 2014 when presented with the evidence.

It has been one massive cover up sham from the minute the Sherriif Officers turned up at Ibrox in August 2011 and I think the problem Celtic face is not in questioning what did place but the fear of the consequences of proving it did.

Hence all attempts at stalling on UEFA Licence 2011 and SFA refusal to revisit LNS. You have no idea how far those responsible ( and who knows exactly whom) are prepared to go to stop the truth coming out.

it is the only explanation that makes sense to me in view of the information provided, when it was provided and lack of pro activity until poked with a Res12 stick.

The truth would replace Ratner in the lexicon of shooting off not just one’s foot but the two legs as well.

The damage Rangers have done to Scottish football is incalculable if seen through the prism of the truth, which is why it has been presented through a prism of lies , as those charged with handling the fall out of ten years of cheating and possible fraud in 2011, have made such an ethical arse of it.

  16. The only way that anything will change, ie:

Rattling the establishments cage, and then chucking it aff the oul Jungle roof, will be when the Celtic supporter base is bold and, brave enough to look itself in the mirror, and say

….”Only I, ME, and my fellow season ticket holders, who are thee main financial contributers to the running of, Celtic FC, can change the back of the bus status that, the PLC board allow us to endure, through their inept, and toothless defence of Celtic FC, and its supporters, based on their ‘I’m alright Jack, and yooz can suck it up’ philosophy. ”

….Every flash point on Celtic FC’s journey, and the PLC fail you. Then, you vote them back into office when yooz hand them tens of £££millions, year in, year out.

    Who’s fault is that ?

    Empty the park ffs.

  19. Good evening friends

With just 70 minutes to kick off and no definitive info on who’s fit or not I’d start with the following 11

    Gordon

    Lustig, Boyata, Hendry, Izzaguire

    Forrest, Ntcham, Brown, Mulumbu, Tierney

    Griffiths

    If Brown’s unfit, McGregor starts.

If still in the game at 60, start to introduce (in no particular order) Edouard, Morgan, Sinclair

    Simples!

  20. Wholeheartedly and lustily proclaim support for Tims to band together and demonstrate the passion we have for the team by hitting the huns where it hurts…………

…Bhoycott those who would harm our great club.

Desert the team now only hurts Celtic

……………….. and who’d want to do that …………………?

    Aye.

  21. I see that I should have saved myself the bother. Oh well, I scored 10/11 (as Brown IS unfit)

  22. Paul67 et al

Will be difficult to get anything in Salzburg this evening without scoring one or two goals, that said a draw would be a good result. Elsewhere a win for Rosenborg at home against Red Bull’s other team, or even a draw might help turn our group into a four way struggle. If it does we will have a good chance of qualifying from the group.

Time to see McGregor get another of his away goals in Europe.

  23. Dungcaster must go end of. He is a cheat and liar.

Kev to be honest it’s probably your fault, for not starting up a Celts for change action group.

  24. Auldheid you raise a very pertinent question. Who are “we”. Your and the CSA’s rallying call is understandable but does it include our board. You know the people who make the decisions? Decisions like:

    Colluding with corruption

    Constantly attacking supporters

    Stonewalling res12

    Banning supporters for nothing

Illegally sending supporters details to the police

    Calling supporters criminal racists

    Lying about stadium safety certificates

    Agreeing the 5 way agreement

Telling us how great rangers are and how much we miss them

Staying resolutely silent while we are cheated

Stealing bonuses whilst not investing in the team

    Etc etc

Or like paul67 who loves to talk about the Huns cheating and continuity myths whilst at the same time telling bbc Scotland how much he missed them (bless). Or who now wants to reinvent Doncaster as a hero.

It’s just like that bit in Animal Farm where the animals can’t tell the difference between the pigs and the humans.

Is that the “We” you speaking auldheid? Let’s circle the wagons so the board can shoot us from the inside.

    What a plan auldheid. Masteful.

Rally round after the horse has bolted, after the board allowed our lifetime chance to change the landscape pass up for their racist pound?

Rally round while they call us racists?

Rally round so we can shaft you more.

Change will only come when we were out the rotten corrupt core in our boardroom and their lackeys like paul67.

    Rally round that Auldheid.

  25. Jobobaldie

You had Brown and Izzy in your line up.

    You never included Edouard.

Maybe a modest 8 out 11, as apposed to 10

  26. Today is a day for the sleekit sniggering huns that pervade Scottish society to have a spring in their step.

Operation anyone but Celtic has had a wee meaningless .victory.

It will backfire when Celtic put the Edinburgh huns in their place no matter how hard a cheat with a whistle tries.

The best wee country so it is.

Anyone who doubted Lawells control on CQN’s editorial must surely think again after Pauls puff piece on the ridiculous continuation myth purveyor Dungcaster.

  27. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Interesting take Paul.

You clearly have an ‘in’ and I , for one, am glad you share SOME of what you are told on here.

That said, your positioning of Doncaster troubles me a tad.

I think Doncaster is smart, a strategic thinker and (unlike that eejit Regan) has shown significant Machiavellian guile.

He could be useful but he is the “unpalatable cost of doing business” I alluded to last week.

And … he used the O** F*** tag publicly last week.

  28. Surprised at the amount of rage this has provoked, probably shouldn’t be

Read what paul67 is actually saying

    1-0!

  29. Celtic have always had trouble from the Blazers in Scottish Football bodies. Irrespective of the type of proposals they always fail to attract any support from the Bowling Club Blazers. When we made a go at removing the Blazers from SFA Board we had to attract support from others who were not friends of Celtic. We managed to help get Maxwell into power with the help of Doncaster.

Now while we should hold our nose when we have to deal with Doncaster for good reasons as stated by others then I believe Paul that he was not responsible.

I would suggest that he voted for the Celtic motion but you can be sure Falkirk, Motherwell, Stranraer, Dundee all voted against Celtic. I suggest these clubs have voted against celtic for over 100 years.

This is our problem, the anti Irish and Catholic bigotry.
