Cocky Dutch

1147

I’m older than Virgil van Dijk and I’ve seen more football scenarios than he has, so in this respect it is forgivable for him to be talking about Celtic going through the entire league programme undefeated, but Virgil was in the Celtic team who lost at home to Morton less than two months ago, so he really should know the only place to do your talking is on the football field.

Celtic have a rather important game on Tuesday, which the manager will quite rightly be preparing for, making tomorrow’s game against Aberdeen an open race.  If Virgil’s (reported) mind-set is shared by many in the dressing room the 7/1 odds against Aberdeen look generous.

Better all-round if we knock any ‘undefeated all season’ talk on the head.  It’s fine fare for fans but not for players.

Feeling gutted for the five Celtic fans who failed to get justice in Amsterdam yesterday.  The rest of us can busy ourselves campaigning on their behalf but verdict will be a blow to the five and their families.

Have you heard the ‘Tommy Burns – single’, in aid of the Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust?  Available on iTunes, 99p.  Wire in.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the current edition of CQN Magazine, not that I want to divert you away, but…  The Football Pink magazine is well worth a read.  We don’t get to read about Hugo Meisl and the Winderteam enough.  Hugo’s in the current issue, along with an excellent article on The history of Irish centre backs, the player loan system, and an article on Gunter Netzer, the midfield general who brought West German football into the modern era.

Columba Club, Blantyre, tonight, 8pm, me, Phil, Paul, Lourdes Fund, Q&A, general revelry.  Tickets on the door.

The alternative would effectively mean the death of companies as corporate legal entities and why on earth old anyone pay their bills when you could simply just carry on as if nothing had happened and liquidation just a technicality?

  9. The Battered Bunnet on

    E=mc2

    It’s pretty straightforward really.

A group of like minded folk interested in playing the game of football got together and formed a members club. They called it Rangers Football Club, and the club was run according to the rules that the membership subscribed to.

25 years later, with the development of the professional game and its concomitant financial liabilities, the members of the club elected to change its legal status, from that of an unincorporated association where the members were liable for debts, to a private limited company. Thus Rangers Football Club became The Rangers Football Club Ltd.

The members, in incorporating their club, drafted an agreement to this end, and thereafter defined a Memorandum and a set of Articles of Association for the new limited company in order that all concerned would have complete clarity on their purpose in incorporating, and on the status of those who were formerly members of the club.

This is all recorded in the Articles of Association adopted by the former members of the club, subsequently of course shareholders. Article 3 describes the transition from club to company, and Article 4 describes the transition from member to shareholder.

For the purpose of complete clarity, Article 6 states:

“The words ‘Club’ and ‘Company’ and also the words ‘Member’ and ‘Shareholder’ throughout the said Memorandum and Articles of Association shall, where the context admits of it, be of synonymous meaning”

For simplicity, the directing mind of the members of Rangers Football Club determined that, on incorporation: Club became Company; Member became Shareholder.

Their legal entity, The Rangers Football club Ltd, was until recently a member of the SFA. It is no longer.

That same legal entity was licensed to participate in Scottish and European football. It is no longer.

That same legal entity has been consigned to be dissolved. It is… no longer of this world.

A handful of (anonymous) businessmen (claim to have validly) purchased the stadium, training grounds, assorted assets and the right to the business markers of “Rangers FC” in a liquidation sale.

They have since recruited a number of footballers, obtained permission to participate in the senior game in Scotland, and every other week they take to the pitch in the colours and name of Rangers FC to play games of football at Ibrox stadium. They are permitted, and have elected, to call their team Rangers FC. They have even changed their company name accordingly.

From the perspective of the Law, Football Regulation, and the directing mind of the members when they incorporated their club, Rangers FC the entity, no longer exists in the tangible world.

We can of course elect to believe that this new team is the same ‘club’ that played at Ibrox Stadium for a hundred years.

    Or not.

What gives your brother the belief that we will be able to get out of here? I have had that hope for many a long year and nothing has……

    *******

Just that the big clubs will push for change, as will the broadcasting markets.

There is already talk of it.

Also, the calibre of people at the top at CP are not mugs , but highly experienced and capable business people.

He is of the opinion that the SFA are aware of this and that perhaps Celtic’s apparent softly, softly approach to the scandal are part of the deal to leave Sevco behind to lord it over Scottish football, as in days of yore, as we move on and up.

    Saturday 23rd November 1963, Celtic 5 Kilmarnock 0.

It was very wet, the pitch was muddy, Celtic wore the shamrock strip, played brilliantly and wee Jinky scored the 5th goal. Just as well because he promised he would to me, my brother and a dozen other schoolboys before the match. :-)

According to the Celtic Football Companion the Celtic team was:

Fallon, Young and Gemmell; Clark McNeill and Kennedy; Johnstone Murdoch Chalmers Diver and Hughes. (The same as the song!)

    Enjoy the game today!

Heard a mightily p’ off Milan supporter on the radio this morning ————this season is over, better not to progress in the Champions League , a good team would humiliate us,

Europa Cup not worth a cazzo. Better to concentrate on Serie A, on current form relegation is a possibility .

  17. NatKnow @ 10:46,

Too true – it was Campbell Ogilvie that stated quite openly that he is conflicted when it comes to Rangers and had withdrawn himself from any affairs dealing with them.

So what’s changed? According to him it’s our Old rival therefore the Rangers that he has a conflict of interest in, why anyone should comment when no rules were breached is beyond me, but IF it needed saying the last person saying it should be Mr Conflicted.

Reading the tone of that statement, does anyone believe that the SFA President has had no input concerning Rangers – no chance – Compliance is the remit of the Officer in charge, Mr Lunny, it’s the second time an SFA President has stuck their nose in on due process in recent times, in both occasions concerning Celtic.

Still back to reality – Good luck to Lenny and the bhoy’s today.

    #####

And by that logic one could argue that if you chose to believe that the bills from HMRC, and the face painter, and the sandwich shop and all the rest had been paid then that means they had in fact been paid.

Because if you chose to believe that something is a fact then that something thereby becomes a fact.

Except the world doesn’t operate like that. It’s not a pipe dream.

  19. kitalba and others.

We have a real dilemma and it’s this: few Celtic supporters and fans have actually kept abreast of the Deadco’s machinations. Anyone who has a reasonable understanding of the facts will have invested hours to keep track.

I’ve experienced fellow supporters and family members view my knowledge askance (and I’m being kind to myself here). Most have a mainstream view, gained of course form a manipulative media.

Where The club’s future stance will be presumably formulated from the rump of the fan-bases views ?

It’s unpalatable but when played out the conclusion seems obvious.
