Cocky Dutch

1147

I’m older than Virgil van Dijk and I’ve seen more football scenarios than he has, so in this respect it is forgivable for him to be talking about Celtic going through the entire league programme undefeated, but Virgil was in the Celtic team who lost at home to Morton less than two months ago, so he really should know the only place to do your talking is on the football field.

Celtic have a rather important game on Tuesday, which the manager will quite rightly be preparing for, making tomorrow’s game against Aberdeen an open race.  If Virgil’s (reported) mind-set is shared by many in the dressing room the 7/1 odds against Aberdeen look generous.

Better all-round if we knock any ‘undefeated all season’ talk on the head.  It’s fine fare for fans but not for players.

Feeling gutted for the five Celtic fans who failed to get justice in Amsterdam yesterday.  The rest of us can busy ourselves campaigning on their behalf but verdict will be a blow to the five and their families.

Have you heard the ‘Tommy Burns – single’, in aid of the Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust?  Available on iTunes, 99p.  Wire in.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the current edition of CQN Magazine, not that I want to divert you away, but…  The Football Pink magazine is well worth a read.  We don’t get to read about Hugo Meisl and the Winderteam enough.  Hugo’s in the current issue, along with an excellent article on The history of Irish centre backs, the player loan system, and an article on Gunter Netzer, the midfield general who brought West German football into the modern era.

I don’t disagree with any of what you say, in fact I rarely ever do, but the integrity of the Scottish game has been compromised for 100 years and more, and will no doubt be compromised for longer yet. I’m not saying we have to accept it, and we should continue to confront the ruling bodies at every opportunity, that’s us, and, other clubs.

What I’m saying is, they’ll be back in the top flight in 2 years. Of that, I’m absolutely certain. A different team guising under the same name, and no doubt as obnoxious and loathe some as ever, but, they’ll be back whether we recognise them or not.

None the less, I am compelled to convey my disappointment that we find ourselves in this position, as a result of an apparent erosion of mutual respect between two of our oldest rivals.

Lots of people going up to the ground early today to help with the bucketeers and the collection for the Amsterdam defence fund.

Remember that anyone ordering the CQN Annual online via the link at the top of the page will be donating £2 to that fund provided the order is placed by Midnight tomorrow.

Winning Captains will be at the Celtic Superstore today in the company of a few very good looking young women! Now, despite what he claims to be a degree of personal magnetism, these excellent examples of the finest female pulchritude are there to assist with promotional material and to cheer up and warm up a cold day.

In the past, Paul 67 has been slow to dispel the notion that similar gorgeous looking women rank amongst his most devoted followers—– and to be honest, I expect no change of pace or style in his position this time around.

So– if you want to see Paul’s babes in action get into the Celtic Superstore before the match— you might even get a photo taken with them.

I might even wander along myself……….. but I am fair fed up with good looking women fawning all over me and creating a fuss…………

Many of us wanted a Third Lanark ending for the old Rangers Football Club. However we all knew that a smoke and mirrors rejig would produce a football team in blue ( probably out of Ibrox ) calling itself The Rangers and followed by the same bigoted hoards. So Sevco duly arrive on the scene, begin to work their way through the divisions and , of course the Scottish media play to their main gallery and reinforce the deepest desire of the Sevco followers to believe that their old club didn’t die and were on their way ” back to the top “. History intact.

For me what mattered most is how Celtic Football Club would react to this clearly manufactured storyboard. Peter Lawwell’s remark at the AGM is either a calculated reflection of our club’s position or was a sop on the day to concerned shareholders.

The acid test is coming. When the day arrives, as it will, when Celtic have to play this new club at Celtic Park and we produce the match programme describing our visitors, their status, their foundations, their history and trophy wins. That will spell it all out . We will be in control of that communication ( which we will not be if a game is at Ibrox ) so I do hope someone is already at work drafting the paragraphs.

That day could also come soon if we draw them in a cup. We know how the media and Rangers people will react ( Old Firm is back etc ) the question is how will Celtic react?

Apologies for late reply. Regards to pubs in Garscube road about 17 years would have been star and garter or Firhill tavern. Other pubs I think were closed by then like the double j and the planet bar. The goalpost was alan roughs pub but cloded over 20 years ago. Up from here was Munns on Maryhill road. The bus that ran from that area was The Round Toll bus which became the Garscube Emerald and was originally started by my uncle Robert in fact after his death the bus was known as the Robert Reilly bus for a few years. I don’t think it was ever really attached to any pub but always left from the bottom of Garscube road where it met Possil road.

    I hope this helps.

I watched with a certain satisfaction how, in the last couple of weeks the RIFC share price started to plummet. It reached an all time low (about 41p) on the 20th Nov and looked well on course to dip under the 40p mark.

    What happens?

3million shares are snapped up by an IoM hedge fund – at a “bargain” price.

    What happens next?

The price is starting to climb steadily, and it transpires the the buyers are “friendly” to the current board.

The share price could continue to climb until AGM time, possibly getting to the 50p level.

    What happens next?

Time for some to cash in their 1p shares when the lock in expires?

It’s a funny ol’ game fitba’, these days…

  7. Before the SNP encouraged our fellow mhen to come here and work 8 years ago, we already had the Polish Club in Sauchiehall St, and another one, fantastic place, in Kirkcaldy.

I’d re-iterate though, our treatment of these people has been disgraceful. But not surprising to me, hence my contempt for Scotland as a country. Arsehole of a place. We don’t belong here, the Polish don’t belong here, the Indians don’t belong here, the Pakistanis don’t belong here. They know it, we know it. My answer? Let’s colonise them back. Let’s kick the huns out of Scotland, and bring it back to what it was. Multi cultural and beautiful. Let’s welcome every cultural diversity that even exists. And watch us thrive then…. Will the SNP do that? Will they feck. Fuds. They still want rid of Celtic.

  8. Enjoyed the Glenn Gibbons’ article. I particularly liked his calling out of the MSM’s fawning on Murray and particularly when he was making sarcastic comments about us. As I mentioned yesterday, did CO ever feel compelled to reprimand that reprobate , particularly when he was on the board of the deid team. I think Peter Lawwell should repeat his remark in public (remember the original was said at a PRIVATE meeting) and, armed with Lunny’s “no case to answer”, call for CO to resign.

  9. paolosboots Good Luck Wee Oscar on

Some good points tom i for one didnt think they would end up in the bottom tier but a tribute act did. There has been lack of contrition and i think thats what gets most people and the pretense that its the same team, history etc. They dont like it when we bring these things up that the establishment team died! Where else in football has that happened. We have the chance should we take it to be financially stronger and i hope we take it. This year we bumbled into the cl group stage and hope we are better prepared. Its like a criminal going to jail and not being sorry for what they have done. They did the crime and the time there is nothing we can do but remind them otherwise but they wil always have a stigma.

Neg i agree also with what you say but the term beautiful game is a misnomer its probably the most corrupt sport. Look at fifa qatar those workers in modern day slavery. We like to think of celtic as pure and have a misty eyed outlook on the club however they wont not cant pay tge living wage and that sits so badly with the majority of us. Yet our board have no problem with this. Our club is a corporate entity whether we like it or nnot however its we the give celtic its soul and live brother walfrids principles from a charitable perspective.

Great article, well written. Demonstrates the truth – most of the old firm fans are reasonable people who respect each other and are friends with each other. You’d be forgiven for thinking, when reading Follow Follow, Rangers Media, Bill McMurdo, CQN, that the majority of rangers and celtic fans hate each other- they don’t. It’s just that the Mason Boynes and Men behind the Wire are the most vocal, and trouble.

  13. It is clearly in RC Ogilvie’s interests to pedal the myth that Rory Bremner FC is actually Tony Blair FC. And it is obvious from his statement that he isn’t just having a go at our CEO, he is stating that the myth should be taken as reality.

The most conflicted man in Scottish football is correct about one thing though – the Compliance Officer should have better things to investigate – starting with the SFA President himself and the clear conflict of interests that makes him unfit to hold his office.

    Pulchritude=beauty!

Sorry, I knicked that line from an old licensing submission relating to the opening of a lap dancing club where the lawyer concerned ( not me I hasten to add ) advised the counsellors that:

” This will be an establishment offering entertainment by way of the finest examples of female pulchritude showing a degree of fitness and dexterity hitherto not seen anywhere else in the city.

Drinks and canapés will be available for patrons, with the emphasis on high end food and selective wines— for example Champagnes will be available at a range of prices starting with an exclusive Louis Roederer, 1990 Cristal Brut at some £500 per bottle all the way down to a modest Charles Heidsick at a much more palatable £25″.

You can. Problem is, there’s no touchstone as to what is considered “entirely reasonable”. For example, I may think it is “entirely reasonable” for heroin to be legalised and taxed. Others might not.

I would suggest that if Mr. Ogilvie was trying to pur oil on troubled waters, he could have ended his statement with the first sentence :

“The Compliance Officer has informed both clubs that there is no actionable breach of the rules.”

However, he decided to make further comment. Ironically, all he has done is further antagonise. For someone so experienced I find it difficult to believe that this was not calculated.

  25. That waste of a skin Campbell Ogilvie has only cemented the thought that we should collectively put an end to Rangers when and if the arrive back in our league.

Lets recount the story here –

Campbell is a recipient of EBTs from his former employer Rangers. He was involved in the administration of these. These tax avoidance/ evasion schemes were the reason Rangers went into liquidation. These led to hundreds of Rangers creditors including HMRC being stiffed out of millions of pounds.

Whatsmore, regardless of whatever lies are used for friendly legals to come up with excuses… Rangers cheated Scottish football for over a decade with these schemes. Campbell… If this is the same Rangers then take their titles sand cups from them for their cheating and force them to pay all of their creditors.

The alternative is a mass boycot of Rangers games when we are given the opportunity. Rangers almost killed Scottish football before and given the chance will do so again unless there is a clear message that their cheating was not acceptable and will not be acceptable. A Rangers supporter, former employee recipient and administrator of the very same tax scheme that led to their demise – telling us they are not dead. If I didn’t laugh I would cry.

Re ogilvie – he might be a mason, satanist, but it doesn’t change the fact that what he said is factually correct- “it is incumbent on our clubs to set the highest standards”. I agree- if they don’t set the highest standards, belittle each other etc, it sends out a very unhealthy message to extremist nut cases who need no invitation to carry out acts of violence on behalf of their club/tribe/cause

Sevco aren’t celtics oldest rivals (though please – seriously, can someone post a link to something which proves they are not the same club, legally, other than a daily record headline? Have they actually wormed their way back in?) but hey, two tribes battling out an endless struggle for supremacy- thats all that matters at the end of the day. If they stopped the football and we immediately started playing monkey football, with monkeys, as long as the two tribes where there- it’s feasible we’d still get a few thousand.
