Cocky Dutch

I’m older than Virgil van Dijk and I’ve seen more football scenarios than he has, so in this respect it is forgivable for him to be talking about Celtic going through the entire league programme undefeated, but Virgil was in the Celtic team who lost at home to Morton less than two months ago, so he really should know the only place to do your talking is on the football field.

Celtic have a rather important game on Tuesday, which the manager will quite rightly be preparing for, making tomorrow’s game against Aberdeen an open race.  If Virgil’s (reported) mind-set is shared by many in the dressing room the 7/1 odds against Aberdeen look generous.

Better all-round if we knock any ‘undefeated all season’ talk on the head.  It’s fine fare for fans but not for players.

Feeling gutted for the five Celtic fans who failed to get justice in Amsterdam yesterday.  The rest of us can busy ourselves campaigning on their behalf but verdict will be a blow to the five and their families.

Have you heard the ‘Tommy Burns – single’, in aid of the Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust?  Available on iTunes, 99p.  Wire in.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the current edition of CQN Magazine, not that I want to divert you away, but…  The Football Pink magazine is well worth a read.  We don’t get to read about Hugo Meisl and the Winderteam enough.  Hugo’s in the current issue, along with an excellent article on The history of Irish centre backs, the player loan system, and an article on Gunter Netzer, the midfield general who brought West German football into the modern era.

Columba Club, Blantyre, tonight, 8pm, me, Phil, Paul, Lourdes Fund, Q&A, general revelry.  Tickets on the door.

Gave up discussing things with them years ago. Always amazed me that guys who could rationalise and come to the right conclusion would not, could not even, apply what they knew was right.

    NatKnow @ 10:46,

Too true – it was Campbell Ogilvie that stated quite openly that he is conflicted when it comes to Rangers and had withdrawn himself from any affairs dealing with them.

So what’s changed? According to him it’s our Old rival therefore the Rangers that he has a conflict of interest in, why anyone should comment when no rules were breached is beyond me, but IF it needed saying the last person saying it should be Mr Conflicted.

Reading the tone of that statement, does anyone believe that the SFA President has had no input concerning Rangers – no chance – Compliance is the remit of the Officer in charge, Mr Lunny, it’s the second time an SFA President has stuck their nose in on due process in recent times, in both occasions concerning Celtic.

Still back to reality – Good luck to Lenny and the bhoy’s today.

    Celtic 3 – 1 Aberdeen

Can’t disagree with any of that – or your previous post.

  5. the simple fact is rangers are died and no matter who says what, it is a matter of public record. the newco only came into being in 2012 so it stands to reason and logic that it cannot lay concrete claim on anything achieve prior to its inception. but reason is beyond their grasp as their denial is so strong.

unlike many on here, I don’t think celtic are responsible for upholding and fighting for the truth. the truth is already there for all to see and PL has, on more than one occasion stated the truth. so newco will always lay claim to oldco and the supporters will always agree

celtic have been clear and our supporters will always see them for what they are, which is a newco

but to be fair newco and the zombies have kept to tradition as much as possible with evidence of hatefulness, cheating, ignorance, triumphalism, loathing and narrow-mindedness etc…

  6. SoT,

Thanks for keeping us all up to date with the troubles of AC Milan.

Feels like as good a time to get them as we are ever likely to have.

Despite all this,we shouldn’t forget they have a number of fine players (if not a fine team).

What would your view be on the following:-

1.Which players in the current Celtic squad would be a good shout for a starting place at AC?

  7. Just catching up with the blog. When I first read CO’s statement I was unaware that it was he who had made it and assumed ( wrongly ) it was a statement from Sevco on their reaction to the outcome of Mr Lunnys investigation.

Maybe he’s lining himself up for a return to Govan.

  8. Stephboy to be honest if the board announced we were merging with the Huns you would praise them for it,

  9. It appears mr steakbake is unsure whether to commit suicide or not????

Ally McCoist: Opposing Ibrox board would be ‘suicide’

Sevco manager Ally McCoist has admitted he would effectively be handing in his resignation if he chose to vote against the club’s current board at next month’s annual general meeting.

McCoist has still not decided which side he will publicly endorse, but is in a situation which makes it highly unlikely he would oppose his current employers.

“That would be committing suicide, to be honest with you,” said McCoist. “I haven’t made up my mind yet how I’m going to vote. It doesn’t put me in an uncomfortable position at all, because the one thing I will certainly do, and have always attempted to do, is to do the right thing for the club. It’s something I will think about nearer the time. (Scotsman)

Interestingly, if you look at the ‘Sevco project’ from an investment perspective rather than a football one, you might conclude that the business structure is set up perfectly to achieve an investor exit via a property disposal.

    It’s rather straightforward now.

  11. When the team bus arrives at Celtic Park about 1.15 today,it would be a nice gesture if the players and management stuck some money in the first available bucket.A show of solidarity is required.

  12. Big-cup-winners – Aye. There will even be collectors inside Celtic Park. With 140 volunteers it should be easy to spot them!

i’ll merge my foot with your arse any more of that (LOL!), I am critical of the board but it seems people are to busy reading the sun and the record, pl voted against them, he has made several remarks in full view of the pubic that they are a different club and he has stated we are stand alone club!!!

  16. The Battered Bunnet @ 11:10,

Great coherent piece, it is excellent when ghuys with the knowledge articulate the reality.

For me though there is one fly in the ointment, I posted about it the other day.

Now, my take which is obviously open to correction – the SPL rejected NewCo, if this was the same Club they would have had no grounds to do this, NewCo had Rangers share and if they could have shown themselves to be the same Club they would have kept their position in that League. Likewise with the SFL and League 3.

    But here’s my beef….

“Their legal entity, The Rangers Football club Ltd, was until recently a member of the SFA. It is no longer.

Is this true? Article 14 of the Articles of Association outlines the process to transfer membership.

    The Key paragraphs….

14 Prohibition on Transfer of membership

“14.1 It is not permissible for a member to transfer directly or indirectly it’s membership of the Scottish FA to another member or to any another entity, and any such transfer or attempt to effect such a transfer is prohibited…………. Any [other] application for transfer of membership will be reviewed by the Board, which will have complete discretion to reject or grant such application on such terms and conditions as the Board may think fit.”

Now this paragraph suggests that the claims of RFC(ia) Administrators and Charles Green that the Club membership was sold/bought is erroneous, RFC Directors, D&P nor anybody else associated with the old Company or Club could transfer Rangers membership Only the Board of the Scottish FA could.

But what if they did or do…

With the same SFA membership of RFC est 1872 arguments that Oldco/Newco are contiguous become more credible, at least on Footballing terms if not Corporate terms.

As Oldco went bust owing substantial amounts of money, money that will never be repaid surly the SFA Board would have no grounds to transfer the membership, however Article 14.1 means that the Five-way-agreement, could contain a “device” for transferring the membership from oldco to newco.

I wrote an e-mail to the SFA yesterday, regarding Mr Ogilvie’s recent statement and asking for clarity on the transfer of membership.

    I won’t be holding my breath…

    Hail Hail

  20. Did Campbell Ogilvie’s public comment this week have an air of a “handshake” about it?

Publicly, appearing to treat two parties in the same way, but subtly giving one message to one party?

Perhaps the purpose of this public comment – a rare event from him in recent times where comment would and should have been made – was to get the “oldest rivals” comment out there.

Was the real message not the rebuke but the “oldest rivals” comment? A verbal equivalent of a handshake?

If Big Nan is successful with his appeal for transparency in the judiciary, what would similar transparency reveal about those who govern our football?

  22. Afternoon,

Having lived through the torture of the 90’s, not only were we terrible, but also watching them sign some of the best players in Europe and seemingly never ending gloating over us, I feel nothing but utter elation at the fact they are dead. I take every opportunity to point this out when ANY football subject comes up, they can pretend to the cows come home with regards to history etc, I couldn’t care less.

The 90’s were horrible for us Tim’s, don’t, for ghods sake, let this wonderful time pass without enjoying it to the full. Don’t bang your head against an asbestos wall trying to get the stupid huns, SFA or smsm to try agree to what we all know to be true, they know it they’ll just never admit it.

I read everyday here and believe that the frustrations of how this is being reported is taking away some of the unadulterated joy that we should all be experience at their demise.

This is a special special time to be a Tim, don’t forget it and most importantly don’t let them take it from you………….they will try!.

Ogilve knew what he was at, it was his way to have a jibe at PL. He is a total disgrace and best ignored. Good luck to all involved in the bucket collection today, wrap up warm we don’t want any colds or hoarse throats for next Tuesday and of course come on the Celts, hoping for a good performance, 3 points and a goal for Pukki. I expect normal service to be restored soon by the Pukki shafters.

D&P at no point claimed to have sold the SFA membership of RFC to Sevco. They had no rights in it. The membership was the SFA’s to give, not Rangers’.

As for membership itself, yes, it is true. The legal entity is the member, hence the need to ‘transfer’ the membership at all. This was not always the case, and indeed, it remains permissible for an unincorporated association to hold membership, but only where there is no legal personality.

Similarly, a ‘Club Licence’ for top level football can only be awarded to a legal entity.

In the olden days, the natural form for a ‘club’ was an unincorporated association. It remains so in the amateur and youth leagues.

Today, because of the complexity and value of commercial contracts, parties require certainty and ‘clubs’ require to be incorporated in order to participate at the top level of the game.

“Club” is effectively an anachronism nowadays. It speaks to the tradition of the game, but has little relevance in today’s top level football. It would be more apt to remove reference to the word ‘club’ from all football regulation, and replace it with Team or Member as appropriate to the circumstances.

The most recently admitted member of the SFA is the entity Sevco Scotland Ltd, since renamed TRFC Ltd. TRFC Ltd participated in senior football in Scotland for the first time last season, but did so without a ‘Club Licence’ because they did not satisfy the criteria. It remains unknown whether they have obtained a licence since, but they will need to achieve Silver licence status before they can be admitted into the Championship, expected next season.

Expect further subtle changes to licensing criteria coming to a handbook near you soon.
