Cocky Dutch

1147

I’m older than Virgil van Dijk and I’ve seen more football scenarios than he has, so in this respect it is forgivable for him to be talking about Celtic going through the entire league programme undefeated, but Virgil was in the Celtic team who lost at home to Morton less than two months ago, so he really should know the only place to do your talking is on the football field.

Celtic have a rather important game on Tuesday, which the manager will quite rightly be preparing for, making tomorrow’s game against Aberdeen an open race.  If Virgil’s (reported) mind-set is shared by many in the dressing room the 7/1 odds against Aberdeen look generous.

Better all-round if we knock any ‘undefeated all season’ talk on the head.  It’s fine fare for fans but not for players.

Feeling gutted for the five Celtic fans who failed to get justice in Amsterdam yesterday.  The rest of us can busy ourselves campaigning on their behalf but verdict will be a blow to the five and their families.

Have you heard the ‘Tommy Burns – single’, in aid of the Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust?  Available on iTunes, 99p.  Wire in.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the current edition of CQN Magazine, not that I want to divert you away, but…  The Football Pink magazine is well worth a read.  We don’t get to read about Hugo Meisl and the Winderteam enough.  Hugo’s in the current issue, along with an excellent article on The history of Irish centre backs, the player loan system, and an article on Gunter Netzer, the midfield general who brought West German football into the modern era.

Columba Club, Blantyre, tonight, 8pm, me, Phil, Paul, Lourdes Fund, Q&A, general revelry.  Tickets on the door.

  1. celtictom @ 12:39,

True, very true – the continuing cloak and dagger stuff can be frustrating but we should be enjoying the good tim(e)s.

    Hail Hail

Would suggest your post is the 2nd best I’ve seen on here this year and I would go further and suggest many people on here by the way they overreact to every non-story appearing in the Scottish msm that they purport to hate so much, that very overreaction takes away the feelings that Celtic fans should be showing.

After what has happened over recent years, there really should be a gap between the reaction of Celtic fans and the msm lies and every day someone posts about what derek johnstone, tom english or chick young has to say about football, is frankly depressing.

The performances of the average Scottish club or national team should tell you all you need to know about the combined intellects being paid to play, talk or administer Scottish football.

The msm don’t deserve your attention. Don’t give it too ’em freely.

  3. The Battered Bunnet @ 12:52,

    Thanks for comprehensive reply…

“It would be more apt to remove reference to the word ‘club’ from all football regulation, and replace it with Team or Member as appropriate to the circumstances.”

I noticed when casting an amateur eye over the Handbook how wooley some of these terms were.

I don’t know if you saw my post re:the SFA Football Directory…

It contains information on the Annual Returns from teams:-) at all levels of Scottish Football.

    In 2012 the heading included…

    E.g. Celtic F C – SPL – SFA Licensed Club

    Now Rangers F C – TBC

If you go to this year Aug 2013, the format has changed.

    E.g. Celtic F C – SPFL – Premiership

No longer stating the Clubs licensing status, so I guess you are correct, Newco have no License and the format of the Directory has changed to disguise the fact.

    Hail Hail

  5. medtim @ 12 23..

Kaka has lost a lot of pace .Rumored to have at least 2 chronic injuries. Rumored to have been Berlusconi’s idea .Allegri has been talking about playing him as a playmaker in front of the back 4 . The media have suggested that Allegri might give it a go v Genoa tonight.

Robinho ———– publicly called ” unprofessional ” by Allegri.,publicly called ” stupid and incapable of following instructions ” by Allegri. Lots of skill but looks really selfish.

Mexes is very error prone . Very rash . Seems highly strung and is easily wound up..

De Jong lacks positional discipline and is very easily wound up . A red card in waiting.

The Sicilian winter is a strange thing . It can be 20 and feel cold.[ damp]. The air can be really humid. .Get up in the morning and the ground etc is covered in moisture.

  6. corkcelt- SUPPORTING THE DAM 5 on

On Official Celtic Twitter, they are advertising the bucket collection in support of the appeal by the DAM 5. That shows where there heart is. All credit to them and those on here who are constantly knocking the Board should acknowledge this gesture.

    Chairboy

A recent example is the change to the financial criteria for licensing.

Previously, an applicant required to provide 3 years of audited accounts to demonstrate financial probity.

This criterion was amended to allow the SFA discretion where an applicant cannot provide 3 years financial statements.

Another example is the change to the definition of ‘club’ in the most recent SFA articles to reflect the curiosity that is the Nimmo Smith construct.

Previously, a ‘club’ was defined as:

“a football club playing Association Football in accordance with the provisions set out in Article 6”

    Now it reads:

“a football club playing Association Football in accordance with the provisions set out in Article 6 and, except where the context otherwise requires, includes the owner and operator of such club”

    Join the dots…

    (1) I have 3-2 for City on the ole predictor

    (2) I’ve only won over £100 once before – John Collins’ predator free kick at Ibrox was part of a 7-fold that won me £160 – just enough to buy a 14-inch colour TV for the bedroom!
