Covering Emilio, Ledley returns

507

Delighted Joe Ledley got on the score sheet twice yesterday.  As well as missing the influence of Wanyama, and Scott Brown on Champions League duty, Joe’s absence through injury has been felt.  He has been back a few weeks now but Neil Lennon has used him sparingly, putting a lot of responsibility on the shoulders of Beram Kayal and Charlie Mulgrew.  For me, Joe’s composure and running deserves place in the team.

Ross County have dropped like a stone recently, even when you consider their abandoned matches, but they successfully pressed high up the field for long periods of the game.  When Celtic do this in Europe we are always concerned about opposing teams passing through us with speed.  It was a bit concerning that we could not do the same to County.

The most pleasing aspect of the game was the performance of Emilio Izaguirre.  Neil Lennon went on record in the summer to say he needed cover for left back, which is still the case, but at the time ‘cover’ was interpreted in places for an admission that Emilio’s form was not what it once was.

We are incredibly strong at right back, with internationals Adam Matthews and Mikel Lustig vying for the position, while Nigeria’s right back, Efe Ambrose, occupies a different position at Celtic, but Emilio has no obvious left-footed cover.

Following the loss of St John Doyle, George Ryan, Lennybhoy sent £1534.30 on your behalf to the Mini St John Doyle Fund, now officially launched as Sean’s Trust.  George’s wife, Linda, responded with this message:

“George’s fantastic friends at Celtic Quick News have this evening donated £1,534.30 into the account for our charity Sean’s Trust. This money has been raised since George’s death on 5 October. Also they paid for 4 seats at Celtic Park for the family to attend the Ajax game, and sent beautiful floral tributes.

“Most of the supporters on CQN had never met George in person. Paul Brennan from CQN visited me after George’s death and he said ‘It takes a lifetime to make a Celtic Man like George’ What a beautiful tribute. We are grateful for the immense effort you have all made in memory of George. We will never forget you x.”

There are never any real compensations on occasions of such loss, but your efforts connected with, and supported, a family, at a time when that was as much as anyone could do for them.

Thank you to everyone who participated, especially Lennybhoy, for picking up the ball.

He looks like a plain clothes policeman to me, and Celtic are holding their own investigation as to what happened, first hand evidence including eye witness statements from Celtic fans suggest something was either planned, or went very wrong.

I think if we stretch back to the night before the first game in Glasgow where Scottish police played softly, softly, something doesn’t add up.

They have riot cops here too, we dont tend to use them, and I think as Paul67 suggested last week they like to exercise them in Amsterdam regardless of who visits in large numbers.

  3. Just been reading on TSFM about how Sevco, as part of their Rememberance commemorations laid a wreath at the foot of the statue of… John Greig!

To the best of my knowledge Captain Blood is still alive (and probably still kicking), and was never a sodjur.

Crazy doesn’t even begin to describe it.

  4. Have been on crappy conf call for over 2 hours. Dipping into CQN has just saved my life.

VVD. Our best defender. Our most dangerous guy moving into midfield and our most lethal striker.

Best buy since Henrik I think he’ll prove to be. Never thought the letters V and D would bring such solace to my soul!

    Garcia – probably both reasons!

Saw a thread on FB earlier, where some of the more enlightened zombies were saying that John Daly should be able to wear the tricolour when they win their wee diddy league. Some of them congratulating themselves for being so tolerant….!

  7. On the BT deal.

That additional money going to SPFL winners would be the death knell of our game unless it was simply used to increase wages of the existing standard of player and I doubt anyone would think that a good idea.

Sorry folks but that sort of money has to be spread amongst all SPFL clubs but with aim of improving the quality not doubling the wages of existing quality.

It is a challenge but surely even BT can see the impact on the sporting element if if that money just ends up stoking player wage inflation and that is what it will do even with FFP.

There has to be a serious rethink about the damage football is capable of doing to itself. It is an interdependent industry that relies on competition not a commercial enterprise where putting the competition out of business and taking their customers is the norm.

EU law is predicated on this norm but strict adherence to it and failure to recognise the true nature of the business of football will kill the business so the law needs to be examined to see where it is having the opposite effect of that intended in the commercial world on football and changed to bring about what is good for football.

To paraphrase a Queen song. “Too much loot can kill you”

  8. We have depended on others to score, as our forwards have gone missing. The midfielders as in Kayal, Ledley, and now Van Dyke supplying us. We can’t keep depending others week in week out. We’ve no quality at all up front. It’s getting harder for them to score even on the domestic front. We’re beginning to be found out and it’s very frustrating watching it every week. Start spending Peter or we’ll find it hard to get through the qualifiers even.

    YNWA !!!

  9. hope the rumours about Deadly Ledley leaving are just that rumours and not factual! the guy is a legend and I for 1 hope he sticks around for a long time!!

Sadly the CSC have let me down regarding Billy No’Well performing there.

I went there tonight in person tonight as the demand for this event was high and I wanted to best mange this but was shocked to discover this event cannot happen here as other events are already previously booked a long time ago. Obviously I would have preferred to have been told this in any of my previous phone calls that I that made to arrange this. If I had told this when I initially called, I would already have an alternative venue booked.

I will in the short time left I aim to find a venue where we are welcome. I will update you if I can find a venue that can confirm this event can happen, and actually means it.

    Sorry!

Billy No’Well will not perform at the CSC after the AGM

I went there tonight in person to confirm details as demand was high. They have previous bookings and advised me that they cannot accommodate this booking. I’m not sure why they could not have told me this in any of the previous call I’ve made to them.

DO NOT GO TO THE CSC ON THE DAY OF THE AGM

I will advise you once I confirm a venue who are serious about welcoming us.
