CQN memorial, anti-Moneyball, FAC

573

CQNers are a new type of community.  We mostly, though not always, share interests but we are anchored in commons values.  The achievements of the community are incredible.  We’ve made friends, some of whom are no longer with us and who shared their darkest hours on these pages, while others were lost in an instant.

Those lost friends now have a memorial stone outside Celtic Park, a credit to their memory.  Thanks to all who contributed.

You and I have been talking Moneyball for six years.  We’ve been convinced of the merits since then, most of the world is now, so it’s gratifying to know a manager would rather lose his job than succumb to the new orthodoxy.  Very brave of Mark Warburton, he has the makings of an ideal Newco manager.

Last week I wrote that I expected Newco to appoint Stuart McCall as permanent manager.  He was a reliable choice, had taken Motherwell to two consecutive second place SPL finishes, knew the task, had spent years scrapping around for free transfers and, let’s face it, is a ‘Real Rangers Man’.  I would not have looked past him.

Warburton managed Brentford for two years, winning promotion in the first and taking them to the play-off semi-finals in April, but Brentford is the story of owner, Matthew Benham, who has invested close to £50m in the club.  Warburton is fortunate to find two consecutive owners intent on spending £50m living the dream…….  you do have the money for him, Dave, don’t you?

Fans Against Criminalisation issued this statement yesterday:

“Our view is that from the outset, despite the claims from the then First Minister, Alex Salmond, that he ‘wished to build consensus’ the only support that the government has managed to attract for the Act is that of the Police Service of Scotland and the only consensus that is being built is that of the opposition to this dreadful, unworkable and pernicious legislation.

Their claim of public support for the Act is based on figures which show that people want action on sectarianism and not specifically that they support this Act.  They also conveniently ignore the fact that the overwhelming majority of sectarian offences (ie those with religious aggravation) do not take place in football grounds [http://www.gov.scot/resource/0042/00424865.pdf].  In addition, many of the incidents for which people have been charged under the Act are unrelated to sectarianism.

We deplore:

•             The action of the Scottish Government in giving off-the-record press briefings alleging that the Act will stay in place. This undermines the integrity of the Review process and the role of Parliament and its members.

•             The use of the statistics from a highly skewed YouGov poll commissioned by the government to mislead the public.

•             The continued reference by the Government to the Stirling research as being the ‘Review’ which the legislation requires them to have is an attempt to prevent the full and transparent examination of the Act which the public in general, and football fans in particular, expect and are entitled to.  These claims are made despite a statement issued by the University of Stirling on Friday (12/6/15) afternoon that the work produced by their team is not ‘the review’ and their work cannot be interpreted as ‘an endorsement of the Act’.

We note:

•             The conviction rate for this Act over the whole period of its existence is standing at 22%. This compares with a conviction rate for rape (itself notoriously low)  in 2013-14 of 41%

•             The scale of the resource devoted to enforcing this Act (including a specialised unit of the police service) which necessarily diverts finances and manpower from the detection and prosecution of more serious offenders.

We pledge:

•             To continue to oppose this legislation by all peaceful means until it is repealed.

We call on the Government to listen to football fans; to listen to those whose lives have been drastically affected by a piece of legislation which is a stain on the justice system of Scotland.”

We have the most right-wing left-wing government in history.

SP. Kent? Dave Godin, a fine socialist, compilations were on that label. Wonderful, wonderful music. When I played some songs of the compilations to a couple who I was best man for, they denounced it as ‘cheesy’. We aren’t in contact now. Enjoy the music.

I am not sure that Ashley has a standard security over the stadium. I could be wrong there but I seriously doubt he has.

If he does have such a security then the ball is well and truly on the skates but, as I say, I reckon he doesn’t have a security over the stadium.

Murray Park and the Albion yes but not the stadium.

However, should he call up the securities over both Murray Park and The Albion then he is obliged to put them on the market and achieve the highest price in settlement of his loan.

However, if he appoints an insolvency practictioner, then the insolvency practitioner has to get the highest price to satisfy the outstanding debts.

What those amount to will vary on whether there is an administration or a liquidation.

In administration, the insolvency practioner sells the assets to satisfy the then known debts but the company continues with Ashley’s contracts in place and still paying him out.

A Liquidation brings all such contracts to an end so the creditor lodges a claim.

    What is Ashley’s claim?

As I said before look out for him aying that Rangers International were due to pay him £x Million over y years and so his claim is X times Y and if the Liquidator wants to fight him he had better prove otherwise.

Not only that, if Ashley bids and wipes his own claim in the process, it could be argued that this is undoubtedly the best deal for all creditors.

Calling up the security is not his best weapon.

If the whole company — all the shareholders, all the guys who were present to annoint Paul Murray, John Gilligan and King — including Bomber and all the other baying shareholders from that day – if they all vote not to pay the debt, then the have walked right into Ashley’s arms and have given him the plan to stage a completely legal coup de grace to a hugely injured corporate structure.

Off out to meet with the bold TSFM and then there is a meeting of the Res 12 four at 4:30pm.

    We live in interesting times!

  3. Paul how silly of you. The Rangers with this super duper management appointment are giving the world of football their updated way better version of moneyball. From hence forth it shall be known as ……….. DOUGHBALL.

I will watch the next 14 days over at Ibrokes as requested what I expect to see is Warburton introduced as manager with Davie Weir as his assistant and I expect him to sign a few players including Wilson on a free from Hearts.I also expect to see a good take up of season tickets from the bears as they prepare for the Championship there will be lots written on CQN about there demise as usual and as usual it wont happen.I will be much more interested in what Celtic are doing one signing made it looks like we are going to go into the CL qualifyers as we are can we get rid of some of our dead wood or do we expect Ronny to produce miracles an improve them to Celtic standard ? What about new signings to strengthen the team there are plenty of rumours in the MSM but in reality what is happening ? So for me the Rangers are not worth bothering about if and when they get into the SPL that will be time enough to start thinking about them so bhoys I think you should be more worried about the lack of real activity at Parkhead than writing about the deid team. H.H.

Starkey’s historical analyses match his views on current affairs.

English dominance and expansion into other countries’ territories = civilising and good.

FAC say – We have the most right-wing left-wing government in history.

We have a Nationalist Government – A One Party State

“The nationalist not only does not disapprove of atrocities committed by his own side, but he has a remarkable capacity for not even hearing about them”

    George Orwell

How on God’s earth can a fracas at the end of a football match produce such draconian government intervention.

Forgetting the behaviour of the Rangers players on the field of play – the ‘handbags’ between Lennon and McCoist, can be seen TEN TIMES a season in the EPL.

Then the DOUBLE STANDARDS ‘kick in’

Everyone and their brother were adamant that the “football authorities” only, should deal with the MUSHNI @ MOTHERWELL assault, and that other “agencies” should not get involved.

This kind of assault happening anywhere else, would be a chargeable offence, and yet the police only wanted to get involved with fans on the pitch, who did not attack anyone, to my knowledge.

The OB Bill was brought in to ‘tar’ Celtic fans with the same brush and to the same degree as the Ibrox bigots.

The SNP, like all Nationalists will NEVER admit that they are wrong – it never enters their head – e.g. look at their Oil Price/Industry projections in their White (Elephant) Paper – have they ever owned up to that tripe?

    ———————————————————————————————————–

How exactly do you know that there is “a lack of activity” in the transfer market by Celtic?

Most player contracts do not expire until 30 June – most players are on holiday at the moment, I would guess.

The Boyata deal was done early, I dare say that if Celtic could have got other ‘tied-up’ early that would have done so.

Those who pay the piper call the tune – with the likes of relegated Burnley ensured of £100 million over the next three years, how can Celtic with £2.6 million for winning the title, use any financial muscle in the market.

We will as always, cut our cloth to suit – if that is not good enough, then so be it.

We cannot compete in the REAL transfer market – to pretend otherwise is delusion.
