CQN Open, Intensity required

CQN Golf Open 2016

The 12th annual CQN Open Golf Day will take place at Aberdour Golf Club in Fife on Friday 29 July. Our annual trip to Aberdour is always a fantastic day. Those who play golf (not me) enjoy the stunning Fife course, while we all participate in an evening’s entertainment and chat.

The day is always fully subscribed, so if you want to attend, please email Taggsybhoy at cqnopen2016@gmx.co.uk . Cost for the full day’s golf and evening meal is £80. There are a limited number of dinner and evening-only places available at a cost of £45.

We’ve raised tens of thousands of pounds for good causes far and wide over the previous 11 events, and enjoyed some great times. See you there.

Aberdeen’s visit to Fir Park on Saturday looked like a stiff test on paper before news broke that the Motherwell squad has been devastated by a virus, which has forced the club to cancel training this week. There’s little Celtic can do about that short of extending their lead to four points earlier tomorrow afternoon with their visit to Rugby Park.

Kilmarnock are marooned in the play-off position: 8 points from bottom, and five from Inverness and Hamilton above them. They’ve scored only once in their last four home games but have the curious claim to be unbeaten by Celtic this season.

We looked sloppy on our first trip to Rugby Park in the autumn and impotent when we faced them at Celtic Park. Kilmarnock would perhaps suggest they simply figured out how to frustrate us. They’re not alone with that belief.

I was concerned about last week’s game against Thistle and Kilmarnock tomorrow. Our next outing, in two weeks against Hearts, will take care of itself, the adrenaline will pump for that one, but we need to create our own intensity away to teams in the bottom half of the table.

We didn’t turn in a classic performance last week but, straight from the off, it was clear we were sharper than at any point since thumping Hamilton two months ago. A focus returned to the squad (as did a Commons and a Bitton). With the large uptake of tickets by Celtic fans I expect our edge to be evident from the start.

Right last bit of idiocy for as I head for a cure….although this may not be quite as weird as it may appear…

This is a pic taken by the hubble telescope. It is a stellar cluster that lies approximately 170,000 light years away. Obviously that means that we are seeing it as it was that number of years ago..

When I look at it I wonder what it looks like now?….And if there are life forms there taking pictures of us….and posting them on their version of facebook?

All those little flashes may not be the light from stars, but more advance iPhone 10s that ET and his mates are training on us and watching illegal streams of the Celtic matches.

I really worry about my own sanity at times.

And 1 light year = approx 5.8 trillion miles. Amazing eh…

Walk a million miles, for one of your goals, suddenly doesn’t seem like much!

I have 28 teeth .My wisdom teeth were removed by a psycho dental surgeon at a University Dental School in 1969.Used to go there to get my teeth cleaned.Once the student had done the necessary , surgeon man examined my mouth and announced – you need to have your wisdom teeth removed – I ” ll do it now.Stupidly – I agreed .A horrible experience followed by a week in bed feeling sorry for myself..Put me right off Dentists – cue a lifetime of obsessive teeth cleaning.

  6. Greenpinata: Re Brendan O Carroll being a boy or a Bhoy. As far as I know Brendan has been to Celtic Park on many occasions. I think he might even have been a season ticket holder in the Martin O Neill era.

I also think he spent a short time as a commis waiter in the Skylon Hotel where some of next week’s visitors to Dublin will be staying in. He is also well regarded for his generous contributions to worthy causes including the homeless, Society of St. Vincent de Paul and paying for the funeral expenses of a homeless Pole national who died in Limerick and was left in a mortuary for weeks.

Art of War: Can you get in touch please?

  7. A guy was terribly overweight, so his doctor put him on a diet.

“I want you to eat regularly for 2 days, then skip a day, then eat regularly again for 2 days then skip a day …… And repeat this procedure for 2 weeks.

The next time I see you, you should have lost 5 pounds”.

When the guy returned, he shocked the doctor by having lost nearly 60lbs!

“Why, that’s amazing! the doctor said, Did you follow my instructions?”

    The guy nodded …

“I’ll tell you thought I was going to drop dead on the 3rd day.”

“From the hunger, you mean?” asked the doctor.

“No, from all the bloody skipping !!”

    Almore,

Before B O’ C hit the jackpot with Mrs.Brown, he was, as you probably know, a stand up comedian.

    and budding playwright.

He had a play in rehearsal in Dublin when he ran out of funds.

When he heard this, a prominent Irish business man invited him to his office to discuss his problem.

After hearing how much it would cost to get the production to opening night, the businessman, Dermot Desmond, wrote him a cheque for €25,000.

So you can add the infliction of Mrs. Brown’s Boys to the rest of DD’s crimes!

  9. Thomthetim: Wasn’t aware of that but Brendan also lost a fortune trying to set up an aviation business in the early noughties, I think. He is very proud of his Finglas roots.

  10. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

    Almore,

His mother was a remarkable woman.

I admire Brendan a lot, for the reasons you mentioned, but his alter ego, Mrs.Brown annoys me intensely.

Will there be any CQNers hanging about the Skylon reception around 9.30 next Friday?

When I was a turning seventeen my ma said… Go to the dentist as you will need to pay soon.

My dentist for years was fully booked, so I went to another one, he filled everyone of my molars, being a pup and innocent I thought nothing of it, until I got home my ma went mental, I’d never had a filling before.

It came out a few years later it was a scam by underhand dentists.

I should have went back and knocked his teeth out :(

Myself and 2 mhates will be there early evening – going straight to the Celtic v Barca youth game from airport then heading to hotel

Hopefully f your there we can meet up:-)

    Hail Hail

  14. Almore,

I think and hope you may be correct. One thing is for sure it was the performances at the Glasgow Pavilion that propelled Brendan and ” Mrs Brown’s boys ” to the big time. Brendan obviously spent a lot of time in Glasgow and I would like to think that Paradise was part of his regular itinerary.

That would make him a Bhoy.

However all the Liverpool and Man United supporters who hail from Dublin are most certainly not ” Bhoys” . My daughters boyfriend who stays in Dublin , but is from Donegal is a Chelsea supporter. WTF. He is definitely not a ” Bhoy”. Although I will get there.

I leave it to you and the other more sensible Dubliners to convert the afflicted.

    Hail, Hail.

    —————————–

If Regan did say nothing in the manner conveyed, to me that sends a message that he is supremely confident that there is no case to answer.

Celtic maybe are saying nothing officially for a completely different reason.

Some posters on here and some other blogs are ‘lit up’ by this Res12 thing – however as many others point out, the vast majority of Celtic fans are ‘out of the loop’ and have never heard of it.

The various blogs are intense to those who regulary take part, but of no real consequence to the vast majority – we contributors sometimes grossly overestimate our own importance in the great scheme of all things Celtic.

Celtic may have decided that if they officially reply to one rumour and/or topic on one site, then they would have to respond to every one, on every site’ on the basis that if you don’t respond it must be true.

As far as I can make sense of the whole ‘stushie” – it boils dpwn to a material change in circumstances between March and June of the ‘offending’ year.

In March ‘they’ were OK as they were negotiating with HMRC over a bill, but in June the actual ‘bill’ had landed at Ibrox and therefore the SFA should have revised their March understanding.

Perhaps if this is all correct, the SFA do not want to engage UEFA as it could mean ‘unpicking’ the European results of all matches involving Rangers – maybe UEFA have told the SFA it is their mistake and at this stage nothing can be done, or perhaps the SFA know that they made a mistake but don”t want to admit it to UEFA.

Apart from scoring a victory over the SFA, what would it benefit Celtic – compensation cannot be claimed against Rangers as they have been liquidated, at best we would join the queue at BDO and likely get nothing.

Prior to the Supreme Court Appeal and the Fraudco court cases, a move by Celtic would turn the whole thing into a bitter Celtic v Rangers debacle, taking the spotlight off the fiasco.

Some say pursuing would ensure that it can’t happen again – with the knowledge accrued by some of our esteemed bloggers and posters, I am sure if anything like it ever happened again, it would be flagged up and dealt with contemporaneously.

Some on here are even suggesting that Celtic ‘do a Belfast Celtic’ – how absurd – throw the toys out of the pram and destroy Celtic just because Rangers destroyed themselves – only on social media can you read drivel like that.

Almore – Sorry that I missed your post yesterday chief.

    Hotel and train all booked.

  17. Thomthetim: I’m with you on Brendan’s sense of humour. Having said that, I hated Fr. Ted too but it grew on me after several years.

Did you see WITS post about Celtic Youths playing in a tournament at St. Kevin’s FC (near to the Skylon) on Friday afternoon?

  18. Greenpinata: I actually think there are more League of Ireland soccer fans in Dublin than EPL fans. Lots of people here claim to ‘follow’ particular teams but the reality is that very few of them attend matches.

16 Roads: Brilliant news. Will catch up on the Saturday evening. I really appreciate yours, and Gearóid’s efforts in Béal Feirste last year.

It will all depend on my son’s work arrangements.

I will be going to the game with him and flying home on Saturday afternoon.

I might make the Youth game, depending on ko time.

    Mr pastry,

I posit should res12 prove they were negligent it would bring the resignations of those involved and thus whomever should replace them would know that move along won’t fly anymore. A clean sfa/spl is the ultimate goal. That would be the benefit to our club.

One poster said do a Belfast Celtic,,hardly noteworthy,,although he is entitled to his own opinion.

I would also posit that should res12 show negligence then it would be easier to approach a different league with respect to joining said league.

I have stated before the MLS would be my preferred option.

    Hail Hail

    Mr.Pastry,

I am the one who mentions Belfasr Celtic.

I don’t know if you have read many of my posts over the last four years or so.

If you have, you will have read the context in which I mention BC and Derry City.

My point is that unless Celtic achieved an escape from the clutches of the SFA (DC) or shut the door (BC), they will be seen to be in cahoots with the establishment and condoning their actions.

I also frequently state that neither option are feasible.

  22. weet weet weet(GBWO) on

Seems strange that a team with one player away with the under 21 national team can get a game cancelled

Yet an SPL team struck down with illness can’t

  23. Yes I wholeheartedly agree that Res 12 should be discussed in a much wider forum than cyberspace.

However those of us who do know about Res 12 cannot undo that.

Therefore IMO we need a statement from our club.
