We’ve been trailing the Ukraine-Russia Joint League plans, which was due to commence early next year, since they were first mooted in 2012. Political will, met commercial money, and a football desire to put the merger of two large national leagues into the schedule.
Needless to say, these plans are off the agenda, although it’s easy to look back now and see why the political will was so forthcoming. Note to Westminster, if you want to indulge in a bit of togetherness, put your shoulder behind building a relevant nationwide sporting infrastructure.
Instead of a Joint League, what the football authorities in Russia, Ukraine and Zurich are left with is a bit of a mess. Crimean clubs, Sevastopli and Tavriya are midway through a season in the Ukrainian Premier League. Russian minister for Sport, Vitaly Mutko, said, “From the beginning of next season Sevastopol and Tavria wiil join the Russian Premier League”, which will expand to accommodate them.
He told Russian media he had received assurances from Fifa that they would accommodate the change, adding, “We want a friendly relationship with Ukraine and do not want to disrupt their current championship. When the season finishes in May we will be back in discussions to formulate the way forward.”
The Russian media report that Ukrainian FA are less interested in maintaining friendly relations with their eastern neighbours and have written to Fifa and Uefa asking them to ban Russian football if they take clubs from the Ukrainian FA without permission. This claim has not been mentioned in the Ukrainian press, or on the Ukraine FA website – despite this being cited as the source in Russia, so it cannot be verified.
Clubs moving between national associations is a common occurrence, happening every year somewhere in the world, but I’m unaware of it happening without the approval of both FAs. Notwithstanding that, there is zero chance Uefa or Fifa will block this transfer. Two member clubs are in a problematic situation, they have a league which wants to take them. Uefa will approve.
Conspiracy theorists everywhere were confounded this morning when one of Europe’s most connected clubs, Bayern Munich, were issued with a partial stadium closure for their home Champions League quarter final against Manchester United, after fans displayed an offensive banner against Arsenal in the last round. Billy bhoy from earlier. I never called you a liar but I do believe that you are beings somewhat selective around the polls you chose to quote. If you look at the poll of polls the gap between yes and no voters has been relatively consistent with a few spikes in the no vote.
I would also point out that the don’t knows tend historically to vote for the status quo or they simply don’t vote. They don’t hold the absolute passion for independence as die hard nationalists.
Fair play to your passion for your cause but trying to portray the polls as showing a breakthrough for a yes vote is simply incorrect.

The panelbase polls were paid for by the SNP. In September 2013 they actually polled Yes as being in the lead. If they have any credibility they show a distinct trend towards a No vote.

That’s when the mibs influence will have a detrimental effect on our clubs quest for success. As it stands at the moment we should have another couple of shots st Europe’s top table. After that it is out our hands, Our club, and the rest of Scottish football allowed this to happen . The whole thing stinks to high heaven, yet the corruption goes unchallenged , by that act we deserve everything coming to us .

I agree. There is no future in joining an English league, even if they were prepared to have us.
There will be a European league in time, and we will be in it, as a Scottish club with proud Irish roots, which is what we are.
We are not a franchise to be bought and sold for English gold.

it’s interesting when you say Iniesta reckoned Celtic were more difficult opponents at Parkhead than Man city. Liam Brady acting as pundit on TV gave Man C credit for at least putting up a reasonable fight when they played in the Nou Camp, probably the very least you could expect from a team that cost 300 million to assemble.

I enjoyed the game, although frozen.
I have to acknowledge the dining recommendations I received.
Guided by WDH and BT’s endorsement of Cail Bruich and their sponsoring of a voucher to the CQteN Drinkfest, I chose that venue for our Friday night meal.
Absolutely superb, in all aspects. Class and quality, without pretension.
After the success of that experience, I stayed with WDH’s tip for the Saturday night.

The Dahkin in the Candleriggs is an Indian experience to savour and repeat, whenever possible.
Again, the food and service were superb.
The menu is different from the usual Indian restaurants, as it is South Indian. Most of them are Northern or Bangladeshi.
The waiter explained the menu and took the order for seven of us. Not once did he write anything down, yet everything arrived as ordered. Nice trick.
If I would fault anything about the place, it would be, as the evening progressed, the noise levels rose, not helped by the absence of any kind of soft furnishing to absorb the noise of
garrulous Glaswegians.

I was struck by the ball skills of the midfielders and forwards of both teams. Way superior to ours. On one occasion, Iniesta was surrounded by 4 Madrid players as a high ball came to him. He calmly controlled the ball with one touch and passed to a team mate with his next. Sublime skill.

The players you mention train on average twice as much as ours do, they put in a 8-10 hour day, whereas our players are on the golf course or in the bookies when their counterparts are still training.
Tis a no brainer for me.
In saying that, they are the pick of the cream of the crop, but still the answer is IMO, the more you put in, the more you will get out.

Lustig (assuming he has put his injury problems behind him) – I agree could fit the bill. Proven International, correct age, has pace and capable of playing a slick game.
Efe – I would discount. Proven International, correct age, has pace but NOT capable of playing a slick game and prone to giving away possession cheaply.
VvD – I would discount. Correct age, has pace, capable of playing a slick game and not prone to giving away possession cheaply – but NO International experience. Barca do not go for players without that experience – though they do promote their own via their Academy. Caps and 2 years down the line – I could see them being interested (but I doubt he will be with us by then).
Izzy – I would discount. Proven International, correct age, has pace, capable of playing a slick game but prone to giving away possession cheaply (poor in the air). He mirrors much of Barca’s current problems – a serious lack of height.
FF – unless being bought for the bench and as a 2 year project (to be loaned out in Spain) – without International caps – can’t see it.

Someone put up odds today on the Yes vote winning and saying it was the best bet of the year. How much would the bookies offer on Celtic competing against English teams in a non European Competition in the next few years?
