Crimean clubs crossing, Bayern banner ban

750

We’ve been trailing the Ukraine-Russia Joint League plans, which was due to commence early next year, since they were first mooted in 2012.  Political will, met commercial money, and a football desire to put the merger of two large national leagues into the schedule.

Needless to say, these plans are off the agenda, although it’s easy to look back now and see why the political will was so forthcoming.  Note to Westminster, if you want to indulge in a bit of togetherness, put your shoulder behind building a relevant nationwide sporting infrastructure.

Instead of a Joint League, what the football authorities in Russia, Ukraine and Zurich are left with is a bit of a mess.  Crimean clubs, Sevastopli and Tavriya are midway through a season in the Ukrainian Premier League.  Russian minister for Sport, Vitaly Mutko, said, “From the beginning of next season Sevastopol and Tavria wiil join the Russian Premier League”, which will expand to accommodate them.

He told Russian media he had received assurances from Fifa that they would accommodate the change, adding, “We want a friendly relationship with Ukraine and do not want to disrupt their current championship.  When the season finishes in May we will be back in discussions to formulate the way forward.”

The Russian media report that Ukrainian FA are less interested in maintaining friendly relations with their eastern neighbours and have written to Fifa and Uefa asking them to ban Russian football if they take clubs from the Ukrainian FA without permission.  This claim has not been mentioned in the Ukrainian press, or on the Ukraine FA website – despite this being cited as the source in Russia, so it cannot be verified.

Clubs moving between national associations is a common occurrence, happening every year somewhere in the world, but I’m unaware of it happening without the approval of both FAs.  Notwithstanding that, there is zero chance Uefa or Fifa will block this transfer.  Two member clubs are in a problematic situation, they have a league which wants to take them. Uefa will approve.

Conspiracy theorists everywhere were confounded this morning when one of Europe’s most connected clubs, Bayern Munich, were issued with a partial stadium closure for their home Champions League quarter final against Manchester United, after fans displayed an offensive banner against Arsenal in the last round.  Homophobia was their offence of choice.

Seville – The Celtic Movement:

“After the game I asked a policeman the way to the station and he just pointed ahead…walked on to find myself in Porto Bus area…walked back – asked another Policeman and he pointed other way”.

To call yourself a Celtic supporter you have to go and support them…….comprende?

You are just someone who purports to have an interest in Celtic….by your own words….you are anything but a supporter…..clear?

  4. we don’t need to join the EPL and by the looks of it all the money in the world has done little more than lead to even more greedy players, owners and chairmen. how many EPL clubs operate within their means? how many clubs in the EPL and championship are drowning in debt?

    ………………………………………………………………………….

    what we need is:

a larger more competitive league, with euro and relegation play-offs

fairer distribution of what t.v/ commercial income we raise (maybe pool payments for euro qualifiers, mid table teams and relegation contenders etc…)

a t.v. deal that reflects the value of Scottish consumers i.e. 10% to sky, rather than taking anything offered, sky never seem to hold the EPL over a barrow do they?

a standard 60% player to wages ratio structure

    more affordable ticketing structure/ prices

overall strong emphasis on bringing through young players

we (all clubs) need to try to sort out the problems in Scottish football first and foremost.

and if we are gonna leave Scotland, forgive me for preferring the idea of having a pan European league for clubs in small countries that see opportunity for regional relegation and promotion with similar rules as those stated above!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Billy Bhoy 05 enjoyed your contributions to CQN today, if these have converted one No to a Maybe or one Maybe to a Yes it will be worth it. Scotland rejected the poll tax and started the demise of Thatcher perhaps this vote can do the same with Cameron.

Just put a bet on a YES vote at 4/1.

I see on Celtic News Now, there is comments from Gary Neville, Celtic would finish 8th in the current English premiership, not prompted, he brought it to the table

    Hail Hail

  9. Leftclicktic – thanks very pleased that you enjoyed the Seville book – it really does describe the joy of being a Celtic supporter. Anyone on Twitter should check out the fun had today as zombies tried to noise us up about Seville. A good laugh in itself.

We hope that the Seville book reaches the audience it deserves!

It was the SNP voting down a Labour government that let Thatcher in ( there again the SNP didn’t mind the economic side of Thatcher, did you?)

And it was the riots in Trafalgar square that got rid of the poll tax.

  12. Cowiebhoy,

If Neville thinks that and that is us without the EPL’s millions, just think what a team we might field, if we were to be playing down there.

I have no knowledge of the whys and wherefors of us playing in England, but might it not be hastened by this latest technology. I understand the likes of BT will pay any amounts in order to have programme material for broadcasting.

  13. Winning captains,

I was in the Celtic superstore after the game and was going to buy the book but someone posted last week if cqn charities benefitted in the same way?

If so I’ll get it next Saturdayif that is so. I know it will be a great read for when I go to Murcia next month with seven mates…two huns…nice guys but hey, nothing better than putting salt in the wounds:)

  16. Happy birthday to my good good buddy Roy Croppie and his lovely daughter Lucy….

    ……that Roy’s got a beautiful family ….I don’t understand it..:O/

  17. Sipsini – we are just as happy wherever you buy the book!

We make more per copy if you buy from the blog but we get longer term gains by establishing demand in the bookstores.

Personally If buying from a shop I’d choose the Celtic stores so that the club makes some cash too!

Just to be clear the books are not part of the CQN charity effort – they are both risky and expensive to produce so we always have a wee mountain to climb to get out of the red on each project!

  18. The main reason I gave up season ticket, was no rangers, opposition rank rotten, a manager who time after time .heouldn’t keep his mouth shut, but that suited the current celtic directors,so as no criticism came there way, keeping mum about a club doing the dirty on every football club in Scotland.so If I am honest I couldn’t care if lennon went to-morrow.and this thing following celtic throu gh good and bad , ive been there many times.will I be back probably .

Well I suppose after a professional football career spanning 18 years where you are as clean as a whistle, the urge to dabble in Hallucinogenics must be overpowering.

Paul67’s leaders of late stench of a frustrated, powerless board not getting what they desire. Not even near it I suppose.

  24. I see the Arsenal player’s red card was overturned due to mis-identification. It was transferred to the correct player, but then reduced to yellow and the automatic suspension avoided because he did not prevent a goal scoring opportunity, because the ball was going wide.

There was a debate on here at the weekend with different views from posters.

Surely Dermot….with all his millions could, if he wanted to, find some way to bend Murdochs ear re gaining entry to the EPL……a promise of major advertising on his channels……a donation to one of Murdochs favourite charities…( even if it’s his back pocket) …..Dermot could make it happen….if he really wanted to

  27. praecepta

I have to disagree with you.

Valdes v Forster, big Fraser imo is a better keeper, Valdes is prone to making many more mistakes that FF, he would never have palmed that header into the net like V did last night.

Pique, makes at least 3 bad decisions every game, most times he will get away with things.

Maschereno is not a CB, he is holding middy, doing a decent job there right enough, but is very prone to rash challenges.

Alves is the most overrated player on Barcas books imo, he also is prone to making rash challenges.

Alba has the same deficiencies as Izzy, and I would rather have Izzy in my team than Alba,

I never said they would sign any of them, I was responding to ger57 who said that none of our team would get into either team that played last night.

As for the Real back 5, Ramos and Marcello wouldn’t be ousted imo, the rest would.

And Praecepta, may not make Europe in year 1 at 8th place, but with the £80m competing fee, we would the next season – top 4, year 3 playing to win :-)

    Re your Iniesta skill…

A few weeks ago was listening to a radio date about the state of Scot Fitba and heard a guy talk of the inability of coaches being able to teach youngsters to trap a ball.

And there’s me driving along the M74 screaming at the top of my voice (that’s allowed I was on my own) … DONT TEACH THEM TO TRAP THE BALL TEACH THEM TO CONTROL IT!!!!

The point about Iniesta is he was intent on moving the ball on, not stopping it.

    ——-

    Hear, hear.

One of my pet hates at the game; supporters who say someone can’t trap the ball because it doesn’t stick at their feet, when they don’t realise the player is actually trying to control the ball into an area which makes him favourite to get the next touch rather than being tackled.

Also liked what Brendan Rogers said in an interview at the weekend. He said he had to re-train players who had been coached not to pass to a player who had an opposition player within 6 feet of him.

Barca often pass to players who are tightly marked but who can control the ball in a way that beats his marker with one touch.

  32. 79 Caps 15.19:

As I expected, no evidence to back up your attack on the Catholic Church. Only a gentle insult to me. See those 79 caps on your bonce, they must be overheating your brain cells. Cool down.

    Bobby M 15.55

Greetings to you Bobby. Which unpopular cause? To a few CQN people, my posts are about as welcome as a dose of Ally McCoist’s semen in their porridge; nevertheless, we should remember that CQN is a bubble. Outwith CQN, most people would be bewildered by some of the beliefs on here.

    Some examples:

Some Unionists on here assure us that a separate Scotland will bring a Nazi to Jew type scenario if it happens. That very analogy has been used! Outwith CQN, to the best of my knowledge, no Catholic leader has urged followers to flee Scotland should the vote be yes. Some on here tell us that Scotland is a ‘sectarian shit*hole’ yet few people in Scotland are interested in the faith of others. When asked to give an example of a country which has no bigotry in it, they cannot answer. That’s because there isn’t one.

Many on CQN promote Socialism. Outwith CQN, the aforementioned Ally McCoist output would be more popular to most working class people. Nobody votes for them. The Monster Raving Loony Party is often preferred by the working class.

Ernie, you tried to deflect my points about Catholics and Marxists. Let’s try again. Who has persecuted Catholics more: Marxists or Sam and Billy from Harthill? Who is most capable of attacking the Catholic way of life – Sam and Billy, working class trash who were rejected by modern Scotland some years ago, or middle class Marxists who work for the Guardian etc? Of course, I am only highlighting Catholics to counteract your arguments about Scotland. We should not forget what the left wingers did to the working class and others.

  34. Yogiy – correct.

Ernie can’t seem to get his head round the fact that voting YES doesn’t make you an SNP supporter. Maybe one day he will declare his party political leanings so that we can castigate him as much as he loves to castigate others. Maybe one day he will even say something positive….
